Scheffler hurts foot again, will miss 4 weeks

Tony Scheffler re-injured his left foot during Broncos OTAs and will be in a protective boot for at least the next month.

It's the same foot Scheffler broke last summer and contributed to his extremely slow start to his regular season. He's reportedly experiencing "recurring soreness." It doesn't sound like the team is considering more surgery yet. Scheffler practiced on Monday, but has been held out of workouts since. He's not going to be a recommended TE1 pick any longer. I was hoping to try and get him cheap (try and trade a 3rd round rookie pick) - this may get the job done, and if the injury is trouble, then I'm not out much.

Could be a good time to buy low.

doesn't seem like a big deal yet... think i'll try and trade for this guy in a couple of dynasty leagues, I love his upside.

Well, "one month" puts us in June, ~30 days short of training camp. Do we believe that this will be worse than that?

I think the whole point is that its "recurring". This injury alone isn't the problem. Long-term this could be bad as he doesn't seem to be getting over it.Short Anwer: Yes

broncos looking like they may have a very early pick in the 09 draft

not alot of good news coming out of there lately

He suffered a more severe injury two months later last season and was performing like a TE1 by week 5. I'm not concerned, buy low if you can, I got him for a 3rd round rookie pick.

 I love to buy low when there is a sense of panic.
Generally I agree, but foot injuries are serious business, especially recurring ones.

foot injuries are serious business, but in dynasty leagues, this is likely the only time u can get this guy for a decent price...i've been super-high on Scheffler since he came out...he's a more athletic Jason Witten...huge upside...not sure how the injury will affect this season, but he was a lock for top-6 status in '08 (if healthy), IMO

Rumor has it there could be a hairline fracture involved. Uh-oh.
That's what I immediately thought of when I read "soreness" in one of the earlier quotes. I have stress fracture in my lower right leg that occurred 20+ years ago and I still feel it from time to time, just never really "heals" completely.

(Rotoworld) Coach Mike Shanahan says the Broncos know Tony Scheffler's foot isn't fractured.

Impact: "We know there's not another break in there," Shanny said. "You can see that on the X-rays. But there's something in there that keeps him quite sore and hopefully with a couple weeks in the boot he'll come back full speed."

Must be FFB draft season. You can believe these boards about as much as you can head coaches in April. O.K., a lot more, but you get my point. Cut the guy a break. He wants Tony to fall to the 12th.
I read something that said there might be a hairline fracture too. Not saying it is, just saying that it was not a made up story by the poster. I don't think this is anything major as of this post, but it's something to keep an eye on.

Maybe it isn't, but then again, maybe it is. If it wasn't the same foot he injured before I would agree with you, but that isn't the case, it IS the same foot. That could be a BIG deal.

Unreal how some people value draft picks. In my leagues I wouldn't be able to get him for a 3rd even if his head got cut off.

"Word inside the Broncos' facility" is that Tony Scheffler (foot) is fully expected to be healthy for training camp, according to ESPN's Bill Williamson."

You left out the other part - "Scheffler was also fully expected to not re-injur his foot during spring work, so this means little. Still, the Broncos apparently think Scheffler is just sore and could use the rest. With question marks at the No. 2 wide receiver position, he is an extremely important part of their offense."
