Agreed. I still have very high hopes for Scheffler, and think by the middle of the season he'll be a regular in my lineup. I am going with LJ Smith though until Scheffler spends some more time on the field. 10 Targets > 2 Targets.

he was off the field WAY more than he was on it last night. especially after the drop in the endzone.

i think if you have a better option you have to take it until Shanny starts putting him on the field more.

SD just got torched by TEs. Rosario who? Guess who Scheffler plays next. If nothing else, get him now and dish him off next week.

Yup, only 2 targets. A reception for 72 yards is great, but thats not going to happen every week. I'm keeping him as my #2 but he may stay there for some time. Other TE's like LJ Smith, Fasano and Rosario (who were available much later or as WW pickups) seem better options right now.

Who do you like better for the season - Fasano or Scheffler?? Both are available in my league...
A few weeks ago this wouldn't even be a discussion but now I think a good argument can be made for Fasano. Now that Eddie Royal has emerged, and Marshall is back next week there is a competition for targets whereas it appears from the small sample of week 1 that Pennington may be leaning heavily on Fasano.

He should have been what, about 2/85/1 that game? He's not known for the dropsies, and that catch was relatively difficult (though I agree I'd expect him to have it), so I fail to see what was so horrible about the performance.

In particular, what exactly did Nate Jackson do to leave you with the impression that Shanny would view him as more of a receiving target than Scheffler is?

Scheffler will be fine. Let others panic about him.

This is the same conclusion that I have come to as well. And on top of that. With the ability of Marshall AND Royal to make plays when given time, Shanny would probably definitely go with better blocking to protect Cutler. And that's not good for Scheffler...But what about Fasano? Is he the real deal? This is one guy who slipped under my radar.

Let's assume he made the TD catch...that would have given him 2/81. That's 40.5 ypc...he would more than triple the current record for both single season and career ypc if he were to keep that up. He needs more receptions, and in order for more receptions, he needs to be on the field for more than 10 plays. The stat line was fine, but not sustainable. If he starts to see more PT, I will start to rely on him more...but right now, I'll chase the targets with Fasano.eta - not panicking, merely reorganizing talent...

Was stuck behind Witten in Dallas and Parcells thinks he is enough of the real deal to give up a 3rd for him.

So you're saying that if I remove the 70-yard catch . . . ? I agree it's not sustainable, but the two targets Scheffler got were a nice downfield pass that allowed for RAC, and a TD target in the back of the end zone. Nate Jackson got no looks even half that juicy for fantasy purposes. Scheffler is very much a part of this passing offense and will remain so.

I tried to tell people about this before the season - he finds ways to stay off the field. He can't block, so he's not in most of the Broncos' offensive sets. That's not going to change (unless he learns to block better than Graham or Jackson). He's not going to put up consistent points week to week, but he'll put up some big numbers every now and then.

The guy is a big play maker - it was a blowout last night - he'll find his way on the field when it matters.

I agree. There were some concerns about his role and play time leading up to the regular season....which have now turned into valid concerns. With Marshall out, I think most were hopeful Scheffler would be on the field more. It didn't happen and now Marshall comes back. I'm not panicking yet as we saw what Scheffler can do last year. The Raiders game may not be a good measuring stick, as the Raiders were just dreadful and Denver didn't really need him, but I'm very worried after this first game.

I was shocked at how little action he saw, but that was the Eddie Royal Show. Shanny wanted it that way.

Dollars to donuts says Scheffler will have more than 1 reception in the next game. Maybe less than 72 yards.

in obvious passing situations he'll be in there, any other situation he's not going to be in since he can't/won't block. He's not versatile enough as a TE to be on the field much.

I started Z.Miller over Scheffler this week and would have started McMichael over him too. I've said before, Thomas Howard is one of the best cover LBs in the league, and Morrison is pretty good too. Morrison IS the one that got burnt for the big play, but he also had no safety help. The Raider secondary is pretty good aside from D.Hall. I don't advise starting many TEs vs. Oakland this year.

This week, Scheffler is in my starting lineup vs. the Rosario-whipped SD secondary. Between the lack of run-stuffing defense, and the attention Marshall will get combined with the attention Royal will NOW get, I think THIS WEEK is the time to try out Sheff.
