Tools/Rankings for new Dynasty startup draft (1 Viewer)

Hoping to lean on the wisdom of the Shark Pool to help me out with a dynasty draft I've got coming up.  I've always used the Draft Dominator for all of my drafts, but I've got an upcoming dynasty startup (superflex) draft, and I'm realizing all at once that the Draft Dominator is not going to be much help.

So, my question is what tools you guys would use to prepare for this draft and/or during the draft?  Are there FBG tools other than the DD that I should be looking at to form my rankings?  What about during the draft?  It's been so many years since I've done a draft without the draft dominator that I'm feeling like a newbie again.

Any advice on tools/rankings to help me prepare would be greatly appreciated!

I am not sure what FBG has to offer as far as this goes but they do have rankings.

I think there is more art than science when it comes to dynasty rankings. There are a lot of moving parts to consider.

Personally I like crunching the numbers on all of the players using the last 3 seasons and with that as a basis I try to project forward for the players over the next 3 seasons. You get a form of parabola by doing this. Then can apply age curves for the future part of the projection. For example if a player will cross a age threshold two seasons from now, you may want to discount that 3rd year where players at that position have shown historical decline.

ZWK does some really good work on his dynasty rankings.

Concept Coop also shared dynasty rankings earlier this year.

Zyphros has been working on dynasty rankings that he has shared over the last few years. Here is his latest.

The reason I say this is more art than science is because no one uses the same methods for creating them. Upside is very important but potential/youth tends to get overvalued.

I think the projections in DD are a great tool. You would want to add age into that somehow though. ZWKs lists can give you a pretty accurate accounting of the player ages in his lists.

If Couch Potato (Bruce Henderson) is still doing dynasty rankings I have always liked his work. I haven't seen any of his rankings for years now though.

If people wanted to use this thread to discuss ideas for creating dynasty rankings, that would be a very interesting topic to me.

It's similar to a redraft in the sense that your main goal should be to get quality with each pick, but you need to factor in the increased importance of longevity. Mediocre players whose value is primarily based on short-term opportunity can be poison in dynasty, as can aging players on the cusp of breakdown (unless you can get a nice discount).

Generally, I've made my worst mistakes in dynasty when I've focused on short-term lineup considerations and gotten my best results when I trusted the long view. Stockpile value and ascending assets. Don't get too crazy for youth, but recognize its value. A good basic rule is that good young players are worth more than good old players, but good old players are worth more than bad young players.

The other thing I'll add is that dynasty value is more subjective because team composition and goals are different. In a redraft, the goal is simple: You are trying to win the league that year. In a dynasty, there may be some teams going all-in on the first season while others are building more for the long haul. If you are looking to peak in 2021, a player like Julio Jones or LeVeon Bell might become a burden on your roster, so you'll probably want to skew young. If you're going all out for the trophy in the first year then you can adjust your draft to collect all the "win now" pieces like Julio and Bell, while maybe avoiding guys like Murray and Hockenson who are unlikely to contribute much in year one.
