Any updates on McKelvin? This scant "limited in practice on Thursday" was the best info a quick Google search turned up.

Friday injury update

Both of Buffalo’s starting cornerbacks are nicked up, but Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin are expected to be ready for game day Sunday against the Saints.
Leodis McKelvin participated fully in practice Friday and is listed as probable. McGee practiced on a limited basis according to **** Jauron and is listed as questionable.
Also questionable is WR Josh Reed (ankle). He was limited in practice for a second straight day Friday.
Shawn Nelson (shoulder) and DT John McCargo (calf) are both doubtful, which could leave the Bills with just two tight ends on Sunday.
Starting center Geoff Hangartner practiced fully on Friday and is probable for Sunday’s game. Roscoe Parrish (quad) also practiced fully and is probable.

anybody ever wonder how these guys can run full out on sprained ankles, etc?if I had most of these injuries, I don't think I'd want to leave the house, let alone play football.jbz said:

The Bills will need him, with Drew Brees and his potently offensive friends coming to town. McKelvin will start at corner as usual, but there's a chance that with him being nicked up, Xavier Omon might help out on a kickoff return or two.

I think he played on defense because Finnegan got hurt and didn't come back.As far as returns goes, I'm just as puzzled. I thought Ringer was the regular returner and he was active yesterday. Anybody have any insight?

Does anyone know who will return kicks for TEN going forward since Mouton fumbled twice...also wondering who will return kicks for Oakland now as Nick Miller is out as well...

Can somebody give me a heads up on Witherspoon in Jacksonville? Will he be playing next week and will he resume kick returning responsibilities?

Well in a very short time we lost the big 3 DB/return men, Mckelvin, Wilson and Manning (not lost, but not returning kicks either). So it does feel different this year, usually my league leading DBs are return men as well. Wilson may come back, but I think his value won't come back this year, since he'll lose his starting CB job to Marcus Trufant coming of the PUP.My team just took a big hit with McKelvin going on IR. Is it me, or are there not quite as many DBs producing as return guys? The top scoring DBs in my league so far this year are big play guys. Looks like WRs and RBs are producing more as returners this year.
yeah, just a flukey season for IDP return guys. Manning would be a beast right now if he was returning kicks. Wish I had him anyway with the way he is playing.
If Justin Miller can get the nickel spot and be the full time kick returner, he might have some good value. Raiders should be returning a lot of kicks this year.

Looks great on paper, though he didn't do much against Cleveland despite the six catches by their slot receiver.Might be worth keeping an eye on Captain Munnerlyn as a matchup play down the road. Looks like he's beaten out Sherrod Martin for nickel snaps and is on PR duty now, too.

that was actually a concern, but he did manage 3-1 in week one on about the same couple dozen snaps, and I think he will see 2-3x as many snaps vs the pats.week one, the pats had 3 wr on the field 50/82 snaps, I believe, with corner (buf ncb) logging 5-2 on twice the snaps carr's been seeing, and in week 2 you're looking at 6-3 from that position, while the jets were in nickel/dime pretty much the whole game, as the pats fielded 3 wr just about every one of their 77 snaps.as for returns, balt logged 6 kr's vs the chargers, while the pats have given up 4, 4, and 5, in weeks 1, 2, 3, respectively.edit psand that's ignoring the punt returns.more edits:I did a little more sleuthing, and while furrey caught 4 balls on 6 targets, it looks like carr was covering him on just one of those catches.

Yeah he has been on my radar since the preseason wrapped up but so far his returns haven't been very good.Usually PR duty falls to WR/RB types who typically have better hands than DBs.Jene do you think the rule changes for KR this year have made NFL teams treat KR duty more like PR duty, thus minimizing the amount of DB KR guys?

haha....to be fair about it, I think there actually might've been more kr idp guys this year.
it just so happens that manning got hurt and lost his job to a wr, mckelvin went on ir, and wilson trainwrecked.
that's besides the various lesser luminaries like witherspoon, alphonso smith, j miller, et al.
sometimes it just comes down to bad breaks.

Looks lke Knox is likely to keep the job...Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner indicated in his post-game press conference that the shin injury Johnny Knox suffered Sunday isn't serious.
"I think they’re going to be fine, it sounds like," Turner said. Knox was kept out the rest of the game after the fourth-quarter injury, but has the Week 5 bye to heal up. He scored on a 102-yard kickoff return in the win.

Add Colts' DB TJ Rushing to your rankings...
Colts waived RB Chad Simpson.
Mike Hart will replace him on the active roster. Simpson had been handling kickoff returns, but he suffered an abdominal injury in Week 3.

Thanks for the info. I see that Rushing had his first two tackles of the season yesterday. Were those special teams tackles or is he getting some pt on defense?

Nevermind.Colts re-signed RB/KR Chad Simpson.
Simpson was just released after suffering an abdominal injury, but it looks like he's healthy enough to resume kick returning duties.

I suppose there could be a lot of reasons.
they most likely re-signed jones because he's a known commodity, and rosters usually come down to a numbers game.
you can only carry so many guys, and when you pick your 45 for the game, you might prefer a back up wr to a cb.
I would assume they're happy enough w/jones and don't want to cut a guy for miller.

Been a tough year for DB returners, as many have already commented, with McKelvin out, Manning replaced by Knox, Wilson injured, etc. In my league we also look at non-starters/specialists such as oft-released and resigned Justin Miller, Will Blackmon (out for year with torn ACL), but it's getting thin for them too. Anyone have any thoughts on who might step up, even if solely as a returner w/o much PT on defense? Any thoughts on any of the following would be helpful:
Lardarius Webb BAL - Carr has usually been solid, but this season looks a bit slow and tentative and fumbled the opening kickoff vs. Patriots. Webb handled a couple returns that game and was an explosive returner in college
Brian Witherspoon JAC - Had a lot of returns last year but JAC seems to rotate in a lot of players - Rashad Jennings, Mike Thomas. I know Witherspoon is tremendously fast, but at least last year seemed to not have a shot at a corner position and would be constantly demoted/promoted from practice squad.
T.J. Rushing IND - Listed for several years as their KR/PR in preseason magazines but never seems to stick, has been injured, will he start to take the job this year?
Ryan Mouton TEN - With the two fumbles and the signing of Jones, is he out for good?
Tramon Williams GB - With Blackmon's injury, any chance he competes for the job with Jordy Nelson? He was pretty good a couple years ago as a KR.
Joe Burnett PIT - Know nothing about this guy and I think Mike Wallace is the returner now (?) but I heard his name mentioned in preseason as a possible KR.
These names are all just off the top of my head and many have been circulating in the thread, but things seem to be are unclear as to whether they merit a roster space or not as consistent options. Any others you all have would be great. In my league having corners who return kicks adds a ton of value to a team. Thanks

What about Cincinatti? Has B Scott officially taken over for Caldwell at kr?Miami? has been Cobbs but coaching staff said they may look to Ginn again (since he's totally useless doing anything else)

According to KFFL, WR Kenny Moore is the next option to return kicks for Carolina.
I haven't seen much written here lately about Ellis Hobbs of the Eagles, is he hurt or something. It looks like he was still returning kicks before the bye week. The downside to him is that the Eagles play teams that won't likely kick off very often the next three weeks. Thoughts?
