I read today that Jerry Garcia's Wolf guitar sold for $1.9 million at auction. That made me think "What are the top 10 most famous guitars?" Anyone’s top 10 would obviously be slanted towards their genera of music.

My top 10 would be (listed by the guitarists last name):

Surprised Willie's beat to hell "Trigger" didn't appear there. Did Guthrie play the same guitar across the country? I would assume so and with the "this machine kills fascists" written on it, it's legendary.

Buck Owens' red, white and blue acoustic

Rick Nielsen's five necked custom

Springsteen's Fender Esquire

Lots of good additions. Willie's Trigger, Prince's Cloud & Rick Nielsen's five neck all were on the short list.

I guess it's too plain, but when I clicked on the thread I expected to see Jimi's white strat he played at Woodstock.

Since the thread has gone from top ten to anybody with a distinctive axe, I'll throw out Dave Grohl's light blue Gibson Trini Lopez.

I've always thought it was cool that Trini Lopez of all people has a signature model.

Bah. Gilmour's should be in the top ten not Grohl's.

neither belongs in the top ten

A black Stratocaster is cool but not particularly distinctive.  Grohl will always be a drummer to me but I've never seen anybody else playing a blue Trini.
