Top 10 Movies 2013 (1 Viewer)

Daywalker

Footballguy
1. Her

2. The Hunt (Streaming on Netflix.)

3. American Hustle (A bit high. Nothing sticks out that should be ahead.)

4. The Wolf of Wall Street (First hour is best of year. Have problems with this movie but the one I want to watch again the most.)

5. Rush

6. Lone Survivor (Black Hawk Down lite.)

7. Dallas Buyers Club (Not a big Jared Leto fan up to this point but he's the biggest lock for Oscars. Superb)

8. The World’s End (First hour is funniest of the year.)

9. Gravity

10. Francis Ha

Have not seen Mud, Prisoners, Nebraska, August Osage Country, All Is Lost, Blue Jasmine, The Spectacular Now, Don Jon, and Before Midnight. I would expect Before Midnight to be in my top 10, probably higher, after hearing reviews and how much I enjoy the first two. Have high expectations for Mud as well.

Philomena, Captain Phillips and The Butler barely miss out. The Conjuring and Enough Said are close as well.

12 Year's a Slave, Inside Lleywn Davis and Fruitvale Station didn't do it for me.

They always say it's a great year for movies. Perhaps it's better then others but after Her and The Hunt it's gets dicey.

Best Pic- Her

Best Director- Spike Jonze. Easy choice. Not nominated.

Best Actor- Joaquin Phoenix. Not nominated. Not overwhelming. McConaughey is close.

Best Actress- Cate Blanchet seems like a lock. Haven't seen Blue Jasmine. I'd go A. Adams and I'm not a big fan.

Supporting Actor- Jared Leto. Daniel Bruehl in Rush, not nominated, right there too.

Supporting Actress- Lupita Nyongo'o. That was what I was looking for with 12 Year's a Slave. A real person.

Did not include docs. The Act of Killing is a must watch. I hear Stories We Tell and Leviathan are equally impressive.

From the previews, "Her" looks absolutely horrible. Haven't seen it, don't want to see it. Why is it your #1 movie?

I'm 100 percent on board with "Her" at #1. I agree, FUBAR: its premise seems really stupid. But the movie is fantastic.

Daywalker: "Gravity," despite its many flaws, is my #2. Though I haven't seen "The Hunt" yet.

I liked "Captain Phillips" much more than I thought I would.

I still haven't seen "Nebraska" or "Philomena," but my goal this year is to have seen all the Best Picture nominees before Oscar Night. Prior to this year I hadn't come anywhere close.

Shows just how much movies suck now a days, only seen Worlds end out of the list and you would have to pay me to watch it again.

I somewhat agree.

Best movies I saw this year were kids movies - despicable me 2 and Monsters university.

right- so you haven't seen 9 out of the 10 he posted but you can judge the overall state of film based on that?

seems to me that people who take this "there is no good stuff out there" stance for movies and music are too lazy to seek stuff out or too set in their ways to have an open mind about it anyway. I know; I was that way about music about 5 years ago. however, i don't think I have ever not loved 10-20 movies every year.

I don't see movies in theater, so a couple of mine I am not if they were released last year or came to dvd:

before midnight

the way way back

side effects

place beyond the pines

short term 12

disconnect

the east

mud

worlds end

blue caprice

admittedly, I haven't seen any of the oscar noms yet though...

For what I am sure will be your amusement

1 Oz the Great and Powerful
2 Thor: The Dark World
3 Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
4 Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
5 Texas Chainsaw 3D
6 Jack the Giant Slayer
7 Star Trek Into Darkness
8 Man of Steel
9 The Smurfs 2
10 Riddick

Three that I think could crack the list when I watch them
Fast & Furious 6
World War Z
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa

One that maybe counts
Number 1 would be Doctor Who: "The Day of the Doctor" if it counts as a movie. It is listed under movies on wiki but to me it was a two part tv show.

Have not seen...The Spectacular Now,
Watching this right now. No idea why this is receiving so much praise.

I will admit that I'm only 30 mins into it and it could get much better but not sure if I'll give it that long.

I liked the Perks of Being a Wallflower. Was hoping it was going to be in that wheelhouse. I hadn't heard anything about it until it showed up on a filmspotting top 10 list.

Comedies are so hard. The second half of the World's end really falls off. But the first hour is hilarious IMO and earned a spot. Wish they would have skipped the robots and just focused on the crew. That hour and much of Wolf of Wall Street were the funniest of the year for me.

I think it is in that wheelhouse. customers have brought it back and said they got a Say Anything vibe from it as well.

Gravity was the best experience I had seeing a movie this year. Great movie theater movie.

Other ones already mentioned that were great:

Wolf of Wallstreet

Fruitvale Station

12 Years a Slave

Good movies that people feel obligated to put on the list:

American Hustle

The Spectacular Now

Mud

Still need to see:

Her

Rush

Nebraska

Lone Survivor

A bunch I'm forgetting...

Honorable mention for how hard I laughed watching This Is The End and the Bad Grandpa Jackass movie :bag:

Half of the movies on the list I wouldn't see any way. Plan on watching the other half of them when they go to netflix or redbox. None of the movies listed would I pay money in a theatre to see. Yes basing this off the one I seen and from seeing movie previews on the rest of them. A lot of movies out today are remakes or taken from other countries and remade. Either way it's my opinion and in my view a large % of movies and Tv shows suck today.

a lot?

i don't know the answer, but i can't imagine more than 5% of theater releases are remakes. maybe 20% if you include sequels? still plenty of original content in all genres out there.

I liked american hustle and wolf on wall street. Have no interest to see Mud or Her. They both look way too gay for me....

Her is my No. 1 for sure. Not sure how my top 10 would pan out after that, but in consideration would be Before Midnight, Francis Ha, American Hustle, Wolf of Wall Street, Inside Llewyn Davis, Mud, Nebraska, Gravity, Blue Jasmine. I'm really not ready to fill out a top 10 yet because of the movies I haven't seen, which include 12 Years, Dallas Buyers, Spectacular Now, Captain Phillips, The Hunt and Fruitvale Station.

I'm surprised at the Gravity love.

Really dumb premise, IMO. Way too unbelievable for a non sci-fi movie.

"Thanks for Sharing" is a recent movie i rented that is really exceptional and has Mark Garafalo and Pink in it. It's about sexual addiction so it's kind of dark but the acting is great.

Still have not seen Mud, Prisoners, Nebraska, August Osage Country, All Is Lost, Don Jon, and Before Midnight.

The Spectacular Now was good. Will be one of those pics you look back on because Teller and Woodley are going to be big stars.

Blue Jasmine? Works for some not others. I didn't care for it.

I have Before Sunrise somewhere. Been waiting to find that then watch all three over a weekend. Still expect to adore Before Midnight like the other two.

The Conjuring
i enjoyed this movie. glad its on hbo now so i have it recorded. for a horror movie this and vhs are up there for the best in probably the last 5 years
huh. I would say that Vhs and the Conjuring are on opposite ends of the goodness scale.
where do you have them sitting?
thought vhs was horrible, and I am usually a found footage horror fan.
vhs was more entertaining than scary so maybe it shouldnt be in the horror genre, but since it is and i was entertained i have it up there.. i see what youre saying though

whatd you think of grave encounters
