Top 5 favorite bands... (1 Viewer)

I am sure this has been done before, but I am drunk so WTF.

We are talking top 5 bands in the sense that you wake up tomorrow, and the catalog of all but 5 bands disappear from the face of the Earth for you, and these are the only bands that you can listen to for the rest of your life.  You are allowed studio albums, live albums, B-sides, whatever.  BUT it's only from 5 bands - no more, no less.   What you got??

Grateful Dead

Kinks

Bob Dylan (count as a band??)

Rolling Stones

The Who

If Bob doesn't count, I'll throw in the Led Zeppelin

It's a hard one for sure, but this stemmed from a discussion at supper tonight where I said I didn't think that my wife could name more than 2 of 5 of mine.

Bullet to my head this second for me it was (it might change in 2 more seconds):

Radiohead (duh)

Pink Floyd

Opeth

Iron Maiden

Talking Heads

I am not sure what this is.
Best southern rock band playing today (sure, there are maybe like three total, but whatever).  Little Piece of Dixie and The Whippoorwill are standout albums, but there are great tunes on every release of theirs.

are they on that Spotify thingy?

To limit it to 5 is really tough, so I went with the music that meant the most to me growing up - and I still listen to these artists as much as any others.

Todd - giant and hugely different catalog.  Most people think of "Hello Its Me" and stuff off of the Something/Anything album, but there is so much more - 50 years worth.  And currently touring with Utopia.

Elton John - early stuff through Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and selected later cuts.

Led Zep - was instantly a fan.  Yeah, I know ...they ripped off songs, riffs, etc.  Still the best hard rock band ever - still.

Yes - was a part of my musical taste development (13-14 yrs old).  I listened to Yessongs over and over and painted one of the fold-out illustrations (Roger Dean) on my wall in college.

Beatles - changed everything.

It was meant to be tough.

I was speaking mostly about Todd.  I have seen a bit mentioned or drafted in other threads, but I am 0% knowledgeable about him.

Black Sabbath

Led Zeppelin

Bowie

Queen

Hendrix

I tried squeezing in a real metal band like Sepultura or Slayer but I realize that I couldn't live without these 5.

Stones

Foo

Tesla

Floyd

The White Buffalo - can't get enough of this band I found maybe 4-5 years back by watching Sons of Anarchy and googling who was playing the songs.  Highly recommend

Actually between the 2, if i had to pick, it would be Sepultura. At least if I was allowed the whole Max collection!

I'm always accepting drinks. As for music, I like all kinds. Radiohead is a great band.
@Ilov80s - My SIL lives in MI, but we don't get there much.  (they live a bit north of you anyway)...

I am VERY excited to see Radiohead again in Chicago this summer.  I believe in July?  (wife surprised me with tix).

Pink Floyd

Arcade Fire

Led Zep

Bruce Springsteen

Grateful Dead

And I would sneak Steve Millers Greatest Hits inside the LZ Coda sleeve.

Tough Leaving Radiohead off fwiw.

Totally unrelated but my favorite Eagles song was not sung by Henley or Frey nor was it a big hit.  Any guesses?  It was before 1990.

Beach Boys

Beatles

Weezer

Radiohead

Vampire Weekend
A proud Papa moment I had in the last month was listening to my 3 year old daughter try to sing to  along "Step".   It's one of the 35 songs on her Spotify playlist.

Can't go wrong with either.  Sepultura was one of those WTF??? bands for me in HS when Arise came out.
I was working in a machine shop in the mid-80's when the metal boom was happening and made sure I bought at least one album a week from this great little album shop where the guy would special order anything I wanted.  I was heavily into the 'zines at the time and would search out unknown bands. I still remember reading this insanely positive review on Sepultura and having him order Morbid Visions for me. I was a Big Four fan at the time and it changed my thinking. I still remember my wife, girlfriend at the time, saying it scared her. She was somewhat along with me musically until this

Fair point.  I am not saying this happens often - maybe once a month a so.  It just happened to be tonight...
The last time I heard someone use "supper" in America it had to be Michael Landon.  And it was pretty funny then, too.

Anyway didn't mean to get sidetracked I'm done.

Cheers!
