Top Gear (1 Viewer)

One of my favorites, this show is hilarious. The challenges they do are fantastic.

You'll like it even if (like me) you have no interest in cars. It's a comedy show which uses cars as props.

Exactly. I am not a gear head although I would not say I have no interest in cars but this show is simply down right funny. They put them in some crazy situations and they make fun of each other all the time. I loved Coupling and Top Gear is way up there. Simply brilliant.

I think Ive seen this a couple times - incl. on Jet Blue - and loved it.

They did some contest that had to do with driving in the DEEP south in a car professing gay marriage or something, and at one point LITERALLY had to run/drive for their lives.

Been watching for years. My favorite show hands down. The production quality is insane for a "car show." Makes American car shows look like public access TV. And it's hilarious!

One of the guys on that show flipped a jet powered dragster going 230 mph. After a brief rehab, he's back on the show driving cars.

They've got an INSANE budget to do whatever the hell they please. Excellent way to kick back and burn some time.
and they do not mind putting the guys in danger either.

Racing motorhomes..... racing thru London with a boat vs a car vs a bike vs public transportation.... a drag race of a car vs a man on roller skates with a rocket on his back.... a drag race of a car and a military aircraft.... constructing amphibious cars and then having them cross across the channel to France.... and more.... and all the time freaking funny as heck.

BRILLIANT!

If you are not watching.... you are missing out.

Love BBC!

caught another good one this past weekend

They were testing 3 old cars, doing all kinds of crazy stuff like parking on a 40 degree hill (maybe 35 degree) by using the hand brake and see if it would stick...filling the car with WATER (breathing through a tube coming in through a hole in the roof) and seeing how far they could drive it before the water level got below the steering wheel, etc. Awesome stuff...several times we were all :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Great, great, great show.

I love this show.

American cars take a beating though.
As they should.
I hear its coming to NBC, too?
Yes...Unfortunately, it will be a remake done by NBC. Adam Corolla looks to be one of the 3 hosts. The BBC thought about letting their own guys do an American version, but that fell through. :hophead:
You've got to be ####### kidding. Too bad the guys from the Beeb couldn't do the American version. Carolla is unbearable. :( Love the original on BBC America (even the wife loves it!). I think the second attempt at making boats out of cars is the most I've laughed at a TV show in a long time. Its been a great season so far.

Yea... let's see... they tried an American version of Coupling... horrible. They tried an American version of the Office... Good stuff. They have a 50/50 chance it seems but I just can not see it being to the level of the REAL Top Gear. My fiance loves the show as well.

Top Gear is Awesome! A co-worker told me about it. I added it to my Tivo... it is now one of my favorite TV shows. I would put it in my top 5.

How dare you! First off, it is CArolla, and he is one of the funniest men in America. He Loves his cars and knows his cars. He was a great choice for it, and will be great on it.

It wasn't that brief, it took him like a year to recover from serious brain injury. They weren't sure if he was going to survive.Richard Hammon on Wikipedia

I think Richard reminds me of Davey Jones from the Monkees.

There's one where they had £2000 to buy a car in Botswana. They ended up having to drive it across a salt flat and a desert. During the salt flats they had to lighten two of the cars up because they were too heavy. Between showing Richard who didn't have to do anything to his car, and the others who ended up driving open air cars through a duststorm, it was some of the hardest I've ever laughed during a TV show.

The end of this scene:

Part 3

And the beginning of this one:

Part 4

I've got consumption and TB. I've got every single 1920's disease.

Great, great, great show.

I love this show.

I do not care which Americans they get... it is going to have a very hard time living up to the standard that the Brit show has established.

Top Gear is officially coming to NBC in the Fall. They just filmed their first studio portion this past weekend:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Gear_(U.S._TV_series)

Like I said before, Carolla is a GREAT host, and Faust works as the driver. I worry about Stromer, though....
I can not see it being anywhere near as good as the original. Speaking of which... it is on tonight on BBC America.
I listen to Carolla's radio show every morning, and he keeps saying that they have kept the formula 100% the same. Everything you are used to seeing on the BBC version, you will see on the US version.

:wall: I am not against Carolla at all. I just do not think they can pull it off on the same BRILLIANT level that the original is.

It may be a decent show but I just do not see it being the same level of what I watch on BBC America. I am not excited about an American version or have any specific plans to watch it when it comes out.

I'm too spoiled with the BBC version to watch an American version. I can't stand Carolla. With that said, it isn't so much the format that makes it great, it is the people. I freaking love those guys on the BBC. They crack me up.
:own3d: And what else do you expect Carolla to say? "Uh, well... we took the idea and ran with it in a completely different way."

 Carolla is one of the funniest men in america, imo. The guy is the everyday-man with a microphone...tells it like it is!

....and has one of the best sense of humors around.

And he knows his cars. Every time I've been out to the car show in Pebble Beach he's one of the few "celebrities" whose just walking around looking at all the different cars. Very quiet dude.

The American version got canceled? Did it ever even hit the air?
glad i googled it!

history channel\discovery is good news. maybe it will be less of a mockery and have a chance at not sucking.
Hate to see Adam Carolla not on the new cast. Tanner Foust pawns himself to every car show on speed and adds nothing but drifting talk. Should bomb. Why does the BBC one need to be replicated? Can't be matched imo.

well, the only reason i would like to see an american version is to see them test cars that i can get in america.

even though i could never afford them.

and damn your eyes and your lack of confidence in Top Gear America! be supportive, ya non-supportive person!

There is another reason the American version will not work. BBC has no commercials; if they want to say a car is rubbish, there are no repercussions. Broadcast or cable, the first time American TG says a car sucks, some suit will walk in and say "Uhh, guys, love the show and all but...Company X spends $75 million a year with us. Could you be a little nicer? TIA."
