Trading for backups (1 Viewer)

I've had trade offers to get Greg Jones and Lundy and both guys said they want them them as handcuffs because they have the starters.

What am I supposed to say? "In that case since you have last year's starter you have a right to the backups?"

Why do people say these things anyway?

This seems like an Ok for you to up your price for those two players especially consider DomDavis is hurt and Jones seems to have a legiimate shot at starting whether Taylor is healthy or not.

Outside of that, many people feel like it ups thier chances to get a deal done by giving an explanation along with the offer. In cases where it is probably obvious what they are doing, I find this often counterproductive.

They want to trade for them. If you want to trade, tell them what you want for them. If you do not want to trade, tell them you want to hang onto them. Easy enough.

Were they explaining their logic or demanding that you trade them because it's their handcuff? If it's the former, just tell them what you want. If the latter, I would tell them what you want, but I would probably email him back with a joke about how ridiculous he or she was being. If you want to know what's an acceptable price, I would look for a WR back probably in the 20-30 vicinity.

There have been some rumblings that Greg Jones could potentially beat out Fred Taylor for the starting job even without an injury. He's worth a bit more than a traditional backup.

 Why are we assuming that Lundy is going to get the starting nod if DD can't go? Doesn't Morency have some say in this? Or did my last FBG email on the subject simply contain a fluff piece on VM?

I think the Houston starter as yet to avail himself. It could be Morency, Lundy or Smith. We'll just have to wait and see at this point.

I'm not, but the guy who wanted him was. Morency was available. Does giving an explanation actually work?

On explanations, they can create a dialogue between the owners and in that way help. Also, it may keep you from a bunch of countering when the other guy has only one interest. I am a send a serious offer, I will analyze it myself type of guy, but have worked with people who wish to do a ton of chatter about the trade. On DomDavis, the latest news is that if Davis is not playing there is a good chance that there will be some sort of RBBC even if there a "starter" named.
