Tragedy strikes our league... now what? (1 Viewer)

Having a 6 year old and 4 year old boys, I can honestly say I shed tears reading this thread.

Very sorry for your loss and am glad his son will get to know you guys. Older friends can make all the difference.

That said we've all come to a conclusion along with his wife. His 8 year old son will be taking the team over this year with help from an outside friend for the next couple of years till he gets the hang of FF. I guess him and his dad had decided he was old enough this year to start anyway and had joined a Yahoo league together. The league has unanimously agreed to forfeit this year's prize to be given back to his family where his wife has agreed to buy her son's spot for the next years to come.
That's wonderful. Best of luck to the family.

The solution the league (and widow) has come up with is so much better than any posted here. I honestly have a few tears in my eyes as well. It brings me joy to know your league and his widow have come to an amicable solution. Kudos to the league for forfeiting the prize pool in honor of your fallen mate!!!

Best of luck to you and your league Spin!!!!!!

What a bummer. I'm sorry for your loss. I'd give back the $500 to his wife, and then have the commish set his lineup in his honor based on FBG's weekly ranking or something so there is a 3rd party setting of some sorts. Maybe take a portion of the winnings (say a grand) and come up with a gift from the league (like a weekend away) along with a note about how much he was valued in the league and that he'll be missed, etc.

ETA: I posted this before seeing the OP's solution. That's a much better idea. I'm so sad he had young kids too. What a great way for his son to remember Dad this year. :kicksrock:

Hey Spin, if you want to PM me his son's email address, we can hook him up with a free FBG subscription to help him out with running the team.

Awesome outcome for a tragic loss. I hope the kid wins it all. Please keep us updated throughout the season so we can cheer him on!

If you don't already have a traveling trophy, I'd get one and it after your friend. And I agree with everyone else about giving the league money to the family.

Nevermind, you already did. That is very classy.

Good stuff in this thread. Hope the kid wins, and I haven't paid for a subscription to this site for years, but due to the owners generosity to give away a subscription I am going to purchase one this year.

Wow.. thanks for all the great replies and the offers from members who PM'd me they were willing to take his spot for the year for free. A few even offered to cover the $500 fee and take his team/spot in the league for years to come. You don't know how much this means to me at the moment. SP may bicker over small details/projections but it truly is an amazing community. That said we've all come to a conclusion along with his wife.
