Broncos | Team in negotiations with Henry

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports the Denver Broncos spent the evening Sunday, March 4, negotiating a contract with free agent RB Travis Henry (Titans). The Broncos are expected to try to get a deal done with Henry before he leaves Denver.

This makes total sense.

Why give up draft pick(s) to get McGahee

when you can sign Henry without giving up jack ?

IF this happens, I have a nagging feeling that it won't be the last we hear of the Denver RB situation this offseason.

It could definately be another merry-go-round ride in the Denver backfield for 2007.
Perhaps, but Henry would have to be the clear favorite to be the main sled dog. The guy has, I believe, three 1000 yard seasons to his credit on much weaker teams, and is still pretty young.

I see a RBBC with Henry and MBellwith other options sprinkled on top.

What was the reason the Titans cut Henry with an unsettled backfield of their own? Maybe he has already taken that toke.

He was due $8 million dollars and they couldn't agree on restructuring his contract. That's the only reason they cut him IMO.

As a Bronco fan who doesn't know much about Henry (other than that he is in the substance abuse program), should I be happy about this? I looked up his stats, but could someone else fill me in on what type of runner he is? Does he come across as a good team guy, etc?

Henry still has a few years of good football left in him. This should allow denver to pick and develop late round RBs cheaply. I'm expecting a contract similar to ahman's: ok guaranteed $ with the ability to cut in a few years.

Seems like a great match even though I was hoping for McGahee to go there since I own him in a dynasty league. I think this will be official soon.

He runs insane hard, but has been prone to fumbles in the past. Also has suspect hands. But he is a beast when motivated. IMO, he got a raw deal both in Buffalo and in Tennessee. Denver would easily be the best team he's been on and he could put up some excellent numbers if given the feature back role. (Many backs could, I realize...)

Other than Henry has more experience are his and M. Bells skills much different?
I think Henry is a much tougher runner than Bell. Difficult to tell because Bell hasn't been given the ball enough to really get a feel for if he's feature back material, but Henry has proved his worth on some pretty bad teams, being one of the few bright spots.

Henry is gonna change alot of landscape in FF where guys had him as a rb3 or rb4....If he do actually signs in devenr you can best believe he will put up better than the 1200yrds he did with Tennesee.

he could be a buy low or sell high depending on the owners view of him.

Nice matc though, although McGahee would have been better IMO. But hey, they dont have to part with no pick and i assume if they can work his contract with a clause in it where if he messes up one more time they can cut him or get money back i assume they will sign him.

I'll bet Henry scores in 3 tries from the 1. How many times has Tatum failed that test?

Tatum bell??? :)

I think he is scheduled to visit the Giants. It is not uncommon for teams to sign these guys before they leave town for a scheduled visit though.

Lots of interested folks considering this is the beginning of March!

Dynasty Owners are having a coronary over the idea he might sign with Denver.

This isn't official by any means so keep your hats on for now.

Unfortunately Denver, especially Bowlen, has turned somewhat cheap lately. They often lowball FA's expecting them to want to sign "to play for Denver". From what I've read Seattle has already placed better offers for both Kerney and Graham.

If henry leaves Denver I expect the same from the next place he visits.

Broncos land tailback Henry with five-year deal

Filling their need for a proven tailback, the Denver Broncos on Monday reached a contract agreement with Travis Henry, who was released on Saturday by the Tenenessee Titans to avoid paying him an $8.3 million roster bonus.

Henry will sign a five-year contract that includes $12 million in guarantees, ESPN.com has learned.

Within hours of his release, Henry flew to Denver and visited with Broncos officials over the weekend, while agent Hadley Engelhard negotiated a deal. Henry also drew considerable interest from the Oakland Raiders, who hoped to bring him in for a visit this week.

Henry, 28, carried 270 times for 1,211 yards and seven touchdowns in 2006, and notched six 100-yard outings. The former University of Tennessee standout spent the first four years of his career with the Buffalo Bills before being traded to the Titans in 2005.

In 78 games, including 62 starts, Henry has carried 1,321 times for 5,395 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also has 134 receptions for 886 yards and two scores. In addition to his 1,000-yard season in 2006, Henry ran for over 1,000 yards in two of his four seasons with the Bills.

Also being reported on PFT.

HENRY HEADS TO DENVER

On the same day that running back Travis Henry was due to receive an $8.3 million roster bonus from his former team, the Titans, Henry hauled in $12 million in guaranteed money from the Denver Broncos as part of a five-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

Henry was released by the Titans on Saturday after Tennessee opted not to pay him the big-money roster bonus. Per Schefter, Henry was also scheduled to visit the Raiders, Packers, and Giants.

So Henry becomes the latest tailback in a line of performers who have benefited from a perfectly-executed blocking scheme, which we probably should refer to as the "Nancy Kerrigan," since it is premised in large part on taking defenders out at the knee.

Though Terrell Davis gets borderline pissy when the issue of player versus system is raised, we're convinced that Davis, a second-day pick a decade ago, would have been just a guy in any other offense, and that the holes created by the Broncos' line allowed him to become who he was until one of those linemen ironically took him out at the knee while pursuing a defender after a turnover.

Others who have performed well in this offense include Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Clinton Portis, Reuben Droughns, Ron Dayne (for a game or two), Tatum Bell, and Mike Bell.

Henry, as we've recently mentioned, was suspended for four games in 2005 for violation of the substance abuse policy. He was acquired that same year by the Titans from the Bills in a trade.

too much $$ imo, but, fills a void until they pickup someone in the draft (which they will)...hope he keeps his nose clean

Projections for 07 season? Lets say he gets the bulk of the carries.
my guess...depending on who they pickup in the draft...he will get about what he had last year, maybe a little less yards, probably the same number of TDs. Mike Bell will still vulture yards and scores....

2100 yards rushing/18 TD's.Take him early and often in your drafts.1)LT2)SJ3)LJ4)Henry.......5 and on
:bye: Denver RB history down? Skelator is bipolar since he and Portis separated. Why would this be any different?I suspect Henry will be the man in Denver and have a nice year but not top 5 type numbers.

If Henry gets 300 carries at 4.5 ypc...1400 yards rushing easy. Another 250-300 receiving, 10-15 TD...I don't think the numbers are that unrealistic in that offense.

They must have protection built into his contract.

Denver did not spend $12 million in guaranteed money to have him mired in a RBBC, it would appear that they feel he can handle the load. They put their money where my mouth is. :D

Agreed. A Denver starting RB that gets a good load of the work will post top 12 numbers...no one can say who will definitely make top5 other than maybe LT or LJ really.
