Travis Henry discussion thread (1 Viewer)

I just saw this in the newest Sports Illustrated. They have been including this "Fantasy Plus" section and I normally take their fantasy advice with a huge grain of salt, but this sounded interesting and I have not seen or heard this anywhere else:

"REMEMBER THIS TITAN

Considering a running back from Tennessee? Travis Henry should be your first choice. A team source says he's running like a new man in training camp and has outperformed Chris Brown and second-round pick LenDale White. The key for Henry is that he's much lighter than he was a year ago, having dropped 15 pounds after playing at 230 last season. Henry carried the extra bulk because he thought he needed it to avoid the bumps and bruises that have plagued him during his career. Instead, it only made him an easier target for defenders. I'm told the Titans will be going back to the conservative offense that was built around Eddie George in the late 1990's and will be pounding the football again this season. With his new physique, Henry should be a valuable option as a third back. If you get him as your fourth running back, he'd be a steal."

-- Jeffri Chadiha, "The Inside Man," page F13, August 28, 2006 issue
Man, I couldn't find it online before and I typed this all in and then I found it. :wall: So, here's the link too:Henry blurb

Anyway, I haven't heard ANY talk of Henry starting, but if this is true or has any merit, it's something to give a hard look at late in a redraft (my big one is tonight). It's a pretty big statement to say he's best bet out of the 3 RBs there. According to the latest ADP, he's at pick 230, the 67th RB off the board. That means in a 14-team, 15-round redraft, he's likely to go undrafted.

Has anyone seen anything that would back this up? Discuss.

Nothing Ive seen from Henry, nor heard in the Nashville area would back this up.

If this was indeed the case, Chris Brown likely would have been granted his trade request.

However, stranger things have happened.

Yeah, I don't know if this is worth putting too much stock in, but it could throw a monkey wrench into the conventional thinking regarding the Tennessee RB situation.

To be fair, we've seen in the past that Henry has talent. Still, he's done nothing over the past few years to show that he's anywhere near the workhorse he was during his first few years.

I don't buy it.

His performance in the preseason games so far has been absolutely terrible. But I haven't actually watched him play at all, I'm just going from the stats. Maybe I'm missing something? 2.5 ypc isn't exactly starter material.

So no one would take a shot on this guy in the last round? If he gets traded somewhere good, his value shoots up. If Brown gets traded, it shoots up. If (when?) Brown gets hurt, it shoots up. Obviously if he somehow becomes the starter -- you get the point.

Why not take him in the last round and see what happens after a few weeks? You could always cut him. In a tough, 14-team league, it's pretty hard to find gems late. I'm not saying Henry is a definite gem, but he could be.

I ignore Sports Illustrated. Pretty pictures, nice stories. They're like HBO Realsports on paper and have about as much an idea what goes on on the field.

According to a source close to the Titans, CBS SportsLine.com has learned that Travis Henry is expected to be the Tennessee's starting running back when they play vs. the Jets in Week 1 of the regular season. "Chris Brown is listed as the No. 1 running back in name only," the source said, citing Henry's dedication to the offseason workouts and overall ability as the main reasons why he'll start over Brown and rookie LenDale White. Henry started the Titans' third preseason game, a home loss to the Falcons. On the preseason, Henry has rushed for 53 yards on 21 carries (a 2.5 yards per carry average) with a touchdown along with three catches for 20 yards; Brown has 69 rush yards on 16 carries (4.3 average) with three passes caught for 24 yards.

Found this blurb on Sportsline.com

This is actually the second time this is being reported today.

I'm guessing the orignial source is the same. But I believe it wasn't Sportsline that was reporting it.

Brown will still warrant carries in Tennessee, but expecting anything more than 15 touches a game is a mistake at this point. Fantasy owners should consider Brown a low-end No. 4 RB or a reserve option worth a late-round pick in all leagues.
Yes, I own Chris Brown. :bag:

Getting fantasy football info from SI is like getting your news from The Onion.
Hey, I'm just throwing out something I saw for discussion, jack hole. If you bothered to read my first post, you would know that I don't use SI for fantasy info. If you don't want to discuss it, move on.

With one of my drafts happening in 3 hours, this is some nice info to get. Whether it's 100% reliable or not, I can't lose taking Henry in the later rounds. (I doubt other owners are on this site getting this news)

What has Henry shown this preseason that could possibly make this true? Did Chrissy sleep with Fishers dog or kick his wife?

:lmao: :lmao:
If this is true , there is something else being hidden ( maybe a Chris Brown trade or something )

cause this makes absolutely no sense , Henry is worthless played lousy in every pre season games .

Cant understand.

Part of me says it's cbssportsline reporting this...and we all know how great they are. Another part of me wants to hurry and grab Henry.

Roto has it on there...very interesting!!!
Roto is only quoting CBS and they down play the news

We'd love to see it confirmed elsewhere. We've heard rumblings that Henry has impressed this summer, but thought the team might be inflating his trade stock. We can't get too excited about Henry's chances to keep the job if it's his. He's averaged under four yards-per-carry in two straight years and is bound to lose snaps to Brown and LenDale White. He's averaged 2.5 yards-per-carry this season. That said, move him well up your draft board.

Also, isn't Brown getting his yards vs. starting defenses? If henry is rushing for 2.5 per carry vs. backup defenses, he's definitely not starter material. I don't know about this, it just doesn't make any sense

Titans | Henry excused from practice

Tue, 29 Aug 2006 13:59:40 -0700

The Associated Press reports the Tennessee Titans excused RB Travis Henry from practice Tuesday, Aug. 29.

A. I'll never trust sportsline again after the Portis weightroom report last year. They stink, and their news never seems reliable.

B. There's no explanation for the Titans to decide to go with the 2.5 YPC RB over the 4.3 YPC RB. I agree this report is probably just trying to instigate a trade.

He's like Jack Bauer and Chuck Norris, he's so good he doesn't need to practice.

the only team we could be sending one to is Houston.... and i can't see us sending someone to a division rival!

There was a poster on fftoday that started a thread that Brown had been traded to Houston. No links provided and the thread was removed. I don't know if any of this information out there is reliable right now! :wall:
