Travis Henry-Is he ever going to get suspended? (1 Viewer)

At first, I thought all of the delay was good for Henry as he would already have been suspended if this had been open and shut. But the longer this takes I am beginning to wonder if the league is just being extra careful in making sure that they have their i's dotted and whatnot before suspending him as it seems that if he was going to beat the charge it would be in the NFL's best interest to just let him off and move on.

I'm thinking the opposite. The longer this goes on the more I think Henry is going to beat this. We're nearing the end of the regular season and if the Broncos don't make the playoffs it won't matter anyway. At this point, the league might as well just give up and admit they screwed up and let him play.

This article says final word to come THIS FRIDAY.

ENGLEWOOD -- After weeks of waiting, a decision on Travis Henry's appeal of a failed drug test is expected from the NFL on Friday.

Henry said Thursday he did not want to discuss the potential resolution.

However, there is now a feeling among some both in the league and the Broncos front office that if Henry is indeed told the result of his appeal hearing just two days before a game – because of competitive issues – the ruling could be favorable toward him. The Broncos play at Oakland Sunday.

The running back was notified earlier this season by the league that he had failed a drug test – for marijuana – and has disputed the results to Broncos officials, the league and his teammates since.

Henry had his appeal hearing Nov. 16 in Phoenix with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and other league officials. In that appeal, at least part of Henry's presentation was that the thresh-hold of what was detected was too low to be anything except second-hand inhalation. Henry is believed to have also shown that he had been tested just days before and just days after the positive test and both of those were negative.

Henry also submitted results – both negative Broncos officials, including coach Mike Shanahan, have said – of a hair sample drug test as well as a lie detector test.

He also filed a lawsuit in September, that's still on-going, against the league over portions of the drug policy.

Shanahan, who said Thursday the team had not yet been notified of a decision by the league, has publicly defended Henry and said if he believed the running back had failed a drug test because he had smoked marijuana Henry would have already been released from the team.

Because he had been suspended for four games in 2005 for a failed drug test, Henry is facing the potential of a year-long suspension if the appeal doesn't go his way.

Probably the worst scenario is a suspension to begin next week. Cuz if you're Shanny, that should prompt you to go with Young even though all indications are it will be Henry.

By worst, i mean keeping the ff world in the dark regarding who gets the bulk

I don't have Henry, but I'm trying to decide between Young, Maroney or M. Morris. What a crappy crapshoot!
Hilarious. I have Henry but I also have the other three that I have to decide amongst. Maroney is definately at the bottom of this list though which is a pisser in itself.

If anything, I would think that would make Shanahan run Henry into the ground. So unless the suspension is going to take place as of Friday, it would appear Henry is a safe play.

(KFFL) Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos RB Travis Henry is expected to hear from the NFL about the appeal of his one-year suspension Friday, Nov. 30. There is a feeling around the league and the team that the timing of the decision would likely favor Henry's appeal.

Good, I can't wait to get rid of either Young or Henry

The NFL's decision on the appeal of Travis Henry's one-year suspension is expected on Friday.

Henry argues that the level of marijuana detected in his system was too low to be anything other than second hand inhalation. There is reportedly feeling around the league and in the Broncos' front office that the timing of the NFL's decision is in Henry's favor. The NFL usually doesn't make late-week decisions that can affect teams' game plans for the coming Sunday.

If the league does rule in Henry's favor, isn't this opening up a can of worms the league may not want? What will be the acceptable level of THC in the future? How many other players will be able to cry "second hand smoke"?

Bad form to predict injury. It is far more likely that the ruling will go in his favor and then he will knock somebody UP in the first quarter.
I can see it now...he gets pushed out of bounds...lands on a cheerleader and 9 months later he has another kid......

I can't imagine they would suspend him just two days before the game.
Possibly the death of Sean Taylor affected the timing. They could also suspend him as of Monday.

"I haven’t heard a thing," said coach Mike Shanahan regarding Henry's suspension. "There’s been rumors. I think it started with the NFL Network."

Travis Henry (knee) and Selvin Young (knee) are both listed as probable for Week 13. Each practiced without limited on Friday.

"I haven’t heard a thing," said coach Mike Shanahan regarding Henry's suspension. "There’s been rumors. I think it started with the NFL Network." Henry figures to get the start vs. Oakland, but both backs could end up having nice fantasy days considering how poor the Raiders are against the run. We'd give Henry the slight edge if you're deciding between the two.

from pft:POSTED 1:44 p.m. EST, November 28, 2007TRAVIS HENRY DECISION COMING by Michael David Smith Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that those reports are incorrect, and Henry is likely to learn of his fate within the next 24 hours.
So much for that.I would be fantastic if Henry played and actually lived up to his billing for just a week or two.....unfortunately I don't know if I have the balls to play him.

No decision this week on Henry...

Excerpt from column:

ENGLEWOOD — They privately believed the wait was over, but the Broncos and Travis Henry exited the close of football business today without a decision from the NFL on the running back's appeal of a failed drug test.
Start em if you got em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmm, I still don't think he gets off of this. as Johnny U. stated this would open the ultra can of worms for the league.Maybe the more important and somber news of the week kept Travis available 1 more game, perhaps it seemed petty to the league to take such action?

Just a hypothesis.

I would agree with you that this WAS a possibility, except they DID suspend another player on Tuesday. I can't remember the player or team, but I do remember reading about it. If they didn't suspend Henry because of the news about Sean Taylor, then why would they suspend this other player?

how confident are you Henry owners in him lasting the full game? Do you think Shanny will use Henry and Young?

I actually think he is in for a very big game and will stay healthy. IIRC he hasn't started a game and left early with injury? I know he has missed games in their entirety, but I expect DEN to test his knee a few times before the game to see if he is a go. I would think, given what Shanahan has done this season, that he uses a RB as a primary back and spells that RB occasionally. But I would not expect too much from BOTH, though it is not out of the realm of possibility. Shanahan, at least this season, seems to be riding the one horse backfield.

Travis Henry-RB- Broncos Dec. 1 - 11:36 am et

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said there was "nothing to report" Friday regarding the appeal of Travis Henry's possible year-long suspension.

The Broncos never received word on Henry's appeal despite reports they'd find out Friday. The team is still confident Henry will come out victorious.

Travis Henry was handled in an interesting way. Instead of the coach saying "we'll see if he's ready", last Week Shanahan essentially just said "there's a 0% chance he'll be ready to go this week, and a 100% chance he'll be ready to go next week". The way that Shanahan declared him good to go this week more than a week in advance leaves me thinking that Henry's actually pretty solid right now, so I'd be less worried about him not getting a full load than I otherwise would be.

Pure speculation here, but since the suspension was rumored to be Friday, which is when the decision was possibly made, but we heard nothing; what are the thoughts that he's suspended early next week? That's my thought. He's got this week to play and then done.

As an aside, what a wastte of a roster spot for the season.

First this week's delay was viewed by the Broncos as a sign Henry wouldn't get suspended. Now they're viewing it as a sign he will get suspended.

The league needs to make a decision with Henry and move on. That this has gone on for over two months is a joke.

I guess we should hear something today or tomorrow. I'm sure a lot of people would just like to see this go away, one way or the other.

Broncos FB Cecil Sapp says he's heard that teammate Travis Henry will win the appeal of his one-year suspension.

Sapp didn't say where he got the info. The Ricky Mountain News reports the case could go either way, but it's accepted that the league's decision to prolong an announcement bodes well for Henry's chances of winning.

The decision comes today, word from someone inside league office said that Henry gets suspended but I guess we all see today. A couple of guys didn't think Taylor's death had anything to do with the one-week delay. I was starting to doubt the guy (saying Henry would be suspended) when he said decision would come last week, then reports were that decision would be announced Friday. I think if it was announced Friday decision would go Henry's way...we should know by noon.

at this point, i've become almost disinterested. this soap opera really has caused me to lose a little bit of faith in the nfl. i know they want to get it right, and they don't want to leave themselves liable for anything, but making a freaking decision already.

as it is, if he gets a year now, he's probably out of football until 2009.

Bump for the original '' Travis Henry-Is he ever going to get suspended? thread.

All other`s cannot compare :towelwave:
