Travis Henry. Marijuana. Suspension? (3 Viewers)

Henry failed a drug test on 9/20 outside the NFL and tried to cover up the fact:

Henry is suing NFL to keep them from using said drug test against him. May get off on technicality but nothing is concrete as of yet.
Henry sued the NFL on 9/20.The date of the drug test is UNKNOWN at this time.

If anyone has a confirming link to the date of the test (its important) please post it.

Gotta throw this out there:I don't think the Shark move here is to run out and grab one of Sapp, Bell or Hall hoping for a lottery ticket. The Shark move is to lurk in the waiver wire waters and grab some good player that another owner dumps for one of those 3 guys.
I placed a huge bid on Selvin Young and am dropping my spec bid of Ricky Williams from last week. :bye:

I'm on record that if he'd suspended for a long period, it will be similar to what Skeletor ran a year or so ago. Thus, Mike Bell gets good portion with S. Young getting the T. Bell role. Skeletor will reply on Bell's experience from doing it a season ago and wants Young's legs to be fresh to burst off long runs.I made the point before, but I remember hearing that S. Young has never finished a season...even in High School. He is a poster boy for injury prone. Thus, Skeletor will not give him the full load. I think the RB for the future, if they don't draft one very high...is A. Hall. Supposedly they LOVE him and are grooming him for their future.
A very likely scenario.
What about Sapp?

Gotta love fantasy football...I bet 1% of the posters on this board knew zero about Andre Hall prior to this thread...
:bye: i've been watching his development since 6th grade.
Please I AM Andre Hall. :hophead:
:bye: i'm the guy in the raincoat and sunglasses who comes to all your games :pickle:
So where were you two when I was arguing about him with EBF this offseason? The FFA?
Yeah, what were you guys arguing about?I've liked Hall since I had him on my college fantasy team in 2004/5
I believe that his argument was, and it's a decent one, is that any undrafted RB cut twice (TB and CHI) is very, very unlikely to amount to anything.
Unlikely? Sure...But all it takes is one...
Exactly. And he was rated higher but fell for work habit issues, as Bloom mentioned, which can be rectified.

For people just joining in, I'll summarize:Henry failed a drug test on 9/20 outside the NFL and tried to cover up the fact:NFL got the info anyway and is trying to use it against Henry.Henry is suing NFL to keep them from using said drug test against him. May get off on technicality but nothing is concrete as of yet.Selvin Young is officially listed as Henry's backup.Nothing is set in stone as of yet so sit tight and watch the speculation fly :bye:
another headache Denver RB year
After drafting Mike Bell in Round 4 last year, I swore I'd never get mixed up with the Denver RB situation again. Now, I'm fighting the temptation drop Mark Clayton for Sapp (Young's not available).Just when I thought I was out ... they pull me back in.

I haven't read the whole thread, and I have no horse in this race (I do not own any DEN RB), but I watched Selvin Young for 4 years at UT, and he just is not that good of a RB. He had great football speed early in his college career, but never seemed to get it back after a breaking his leg.
Willie Parker wasn't good enough to play at UNC. Sometimes guys need to get a chance in the right system. Denver seems to be a pretty good system for most RBs.
You could be right, but it wasn't as if Selvin didn't get a chance, he just wasn't that great with the many chances he did get.

i don't care what he did before.. he's in the Denver system now.never woulda believed that Anderson or Gary would be good.... even Davis was a question mark. Denver's system is very favorable for RB's. it's voodoo.

I thought the "Shark" move was always to say, "None of those players are available in any of my ultra-competitive cutthroat leagues. What kind of 4 team elementary school league are you in?" I see that about a dozen times a day.

Nah, the Shark move is to say that you are 4-0 and you drafted so well that you have no room on your roster for some 2nd team RB from Denver.

In my 16 team league where I'm desperate for rb's, I just dropped Dillon and Heath Evans for Sapp+Bell. Grabbing which guy I just waived is your shark move?
 Obviously not every player dropped is a good pickup. But maybe you missed people talking about dropping Ward and TJones earlier in the thread.

:lmao: So true, unfortunately. If anybody caught any of the Broncos preseason games, I'd be curious to know how Young compared to Sapp. That is, how were they used, who looked more effective, etc.

I found this...it`s old but clears up what week he has until out of the program.Henry may end up carrying clean slateBy Bill WilliamsonDenver Post Staff WriterArticle Last Updated: 03/07/2007 12:30:00 AM MSTOne risk involved in the Broncos' signing of Travis Henry will be erased later this year if the running back continues to stay clean.Henry will rotate out of the NFL's substance abuse program after the third game of the 2007 season if he doesn't have any drug violations. If he does have a violation before then, Henry would be suspended for the entire season.Players rotate out of the program after two seasons if they don't have any further violations.Henry was suspended four games in 2005, his first season with the Tennessee Titans, after testing positive for marijuana.
So I'm confused, is Henry out or is he screwed? I assume this incident would have taken place prior to week 3, but obviously we're past the cutoff now...
if this article is accurate it would appear that he's in the clear.
the drug test was from Sept 20th, so that's before week three, my friend...
Oh...didn't see that.
What an idiot Travis Henry is. Getting busted once is stupid enough when there is millions of dollars on the line. A 2nd time, a few weeks before he'd be in the clear, is bordering on brain dead.
I'd suspect that a LOT of pro athletes depend on various systems to keep themselves "clean" for drug tests. I have several friends in the professional world that smoke (I personally don't), and they all clam that they could pass a drug test if it came down to it, especially if they knew when it may be coming. However, I suppose if you get away with it enough and you're dumb enough to do it with the stakes involved and risk getting busted to begin with, you're probably not necessarily the sharpest tack in the box. While the systems may be pretty effective if used "properly", it probably wouldn't take much to render it ineffective if you slip up the tiniest bit. And if you're getting high every day, I can imagine you have your forgetful moments...In never ceases to amaze me how people with so much to lose could be so reckless with their behavior and have it all go up in smoke (literally in this case).
Regardless of your friends being able to pass a test, I have a feeling they don't have as much at stake as Henry does. All the man has to do is buckle down for 5-10 years of his life, make his bank, and then he can retire and buy a weed plantation in South America that grows the kindest of the kind bud.I'll be honest, I never understand why people end up in a situation like this. I try to put myself in his shoes - for instance, I'm successful and have many decisions/responsibilities/etc. that I need to make on a day to day basis at work. I have a group of buddies that LOVES to go out and booze it up. There are 5 days a week (sometimes 6-7 if I'm traveling) that I need to be 100% focused and on. I can live with not going out and getting all banged up the nights before those days. Trust me, I LOVE going out and whooping it up too. Believe it or not, it's sometimes hard to resist. But I'm an adult and have my priorities so I do. And again, I have much less to lose than THenry. What's he going to do if he can't play football?
Smoke weed until his savings dry up.

some players are better in the pros than in college (see Parker and about another dozen RBs in the NFL).....some RBs are just built for the zone blocking scheme...maybe it's him?

An interview on Sirius going on now. Tony Stefano from Newsday said this can go on for "weeks". Sample was taken prior to Sept 20. The petition to take the case out of state court to move it to Federal court is on the judge's desk in Brooklyn. Unclear whether the NFL will act now or wait until there's a ruling in court.

What a delicate conversation that may need to be initiated by the Denver front office, asking each of the nine kids to send back part of their dads' signing bonus.

Team: "Um, yeah, kid. I need your savings account number and routing number. Don't ask questions, I work with your dad."

Mom: "I already spent it."

Team: "Ya think?"

Riddle me this: If you had to drop Derrick Ward to get Young would you?
I did exactly that. I figure Young is well worth the gamble if wat we've been reading is true. The return of Brandon Jacobs made the decision a whole lot easier for me. Having LJ, Edge, KJ, and Jordan didn't hurt either.

What will probably happen is it will go on, Henry won't be suspended, but won't play b/c of injury this weekend. Then he'll get the suspension after the broncos bye.

I'm short at RB and dropped Dayne to get Young.

These updates are so helpful. Thanks :stirspot:
You mean you weren't curious whether or not Frank Costanza's Lawyer and SteveInChicago were simultaneously reading this thread? Come on, admit it.

if true he deserves what he gets. It is a shame idiots like Henry, Vick and R. Williams have the ability to make millions of dollars but do not have the common sense to not smoke pot or fight dogs while they are in the NFL.

Still same role as FB, maybe GL carries at best would be my educated best guess.
Bell or Sapp could certainly take the 5 yards and in TD runs like Bell did last year. No idea who will. Ask skeletor and pickup the guy he doesn't mention as he despises all FFL'ers.

let's put them in the same sentence; because electrocuting dogs and smoking a joint are so eerily similar.

At least he doesnt have the Vick-esque and Patriot-esque apologists making a "boatload" of excuses on the matter.

Young is still too young to take all the carries.
I don't know about that. There might not be any role in sports that is more a young man's place than NFL running back. They take punishing hits for 4 yards. I could see a rookie QB holding a clipboard for a couple years, or a WR taking 3 years to break out, but RBs usually don't benefit as much from sitting on the sideline waiting to play.
