The Chiefs are reportedly hoping that Trent Green (head trauma) will return to the field after the team's October 1 bye week.Green, who was knocked unconscious in the season opener, lay awake Sunday night in the hospital and was moving his arms and legs. Downgrade all Chiefs skill position players as long as Damon Huard is Kansas City's starter. Sep. 11 - 9:51 am etSource: Kansas City Star

I disagree with the assessment that we should downgrade Chiefs starters while Huard is the QB. He looked pretty locked into Tony Gonzalez yesterday, and we saw Gonzalez play and put up the numbers like he used to...

Good lord - as a KC local, I can tell you that what happened was exactly what I feared....the O-Line was shredded.....Kyle Turley and Jordan "The Matador" Black especially.

Huard hadn't taken a game-snap since the year 2000.....I can see some tough times ahead as teams stack the line to stop Larry Johnson.

I have just downgraded LJ and Kennison quite a bit.....esp when you think that IN KC, against a worse-than-average Defense, they couldn't get LJ any more yards than what he had.

I think they meant during week 4. Either way, Trent shouldn't take any chances with head trauma. I agree with the post about Gonzales, he was targeted on almost every play once Huard was in.

Upgrade Gonzo

Downgrade LJ (less in PPR leagues)

Downgrade Kennison

Huard will do better with a week of prep with the ones, but he heavily leaned on Gonzo and LJ yesterday.

There is something wrong with that report. KC bye week is week 3, Sep 24. If he returned after the bye week, he'd only miss one start.
Yep, math doesnt add up.There are already media here "reporting" between 2 and 6 weeks.......as if that means anything...its the same people who said we had Joey Harrington lolHow anyone can KNOW at this point is asanine and comical. We wont know how long Trent is out for several days.

At 36, a hit like that could have Green thinking about packing it in all together. I'm sure Mrs. Green has had this discussion with him, or will be very shortly.

I agree, they'll have to lean on Tony G and LJ even more nowand BIGDAL, I'm flattered by the imitation but please find another avatar

Tommy Maddox was certainly never the same after a Keith Bulluck hit left him on the ground motionless for a few minutes a few years back.

I am really starting to regret my LJ pick now. I'm sure LT will rub it in my face later tonight.
Yeah. Imagine a guy only getting 148 yards. That projects to a pitiful 2,368 yards on the season. If I were you, I'd dump him on the WW.
No joke.Seriously, I'm hoping someone in my leagues panics just as much as you.
I certainly wouldn't panic just yet as an LJ owner but the writing has been on the wall all offseason and they did nothing to dispell the questions in their 1st game. In fact, they lost their starting QB and now teams will be able to gameplan for Huard for a few weeks. I think the 2000 yard 20 td predictions can safely be put to bed.....

Last year, Larry Johnson was a rushing and touchdown machine.

Yesterday, the guy didn't even see the endzone in what most people thought would be a shootout.

He also only rushed for 68 yards, with 18 of them coming when the score was 20-3 late in the game, when Cinncinnati was looking pass and was more than happy to see Kansas City running the ball.

Would I love to have Johnson on my team? Absolutely. But for his owners to claim they weren't a little disappointed by his performance yesterday, is BS.

I can't help but think LJ is a buy low candidate. Fella in one of my leagues was offering him for a top 5 WR. I have Moss and Holt and would depart with either for LJ.

I'm not in panic mode. I think LJ will be a good RB1. I just think that losing Green will hurt. I was flip-flopping between LT and LJ as my #1 pick and I took LJ. Now I am second guessing my decision. No big deal.

Personally I'd wait a week. Next week they are at Denver (who lost) and is very good against the run. KC then has a bye week so if LJ throws up another average game next week with a bye week to follow some 0-2 LJ teams might be talking to some Jamal/Gore/etc owners about some packages.

WOW, Trent Green's life coach is a member of FBG??
That's right. I didn't say he was or would advise him to, but at the tail end of a career, injuries, particularly head injuries, often make players rethink priorities in life. You might have heard of Steve Young? Some people think he was an o.k. QB. Green has young kids at home and has done some analyst work for ESPN and CBS in the past, so I'm guessing he has already considered what post-NFL life will be like.

I could see that, but I am in a start 1/1/1/2 flex league.I would rather lock him up now rather than wait for another owner to make a better "package" offer next week. :)

I could see that but I would think any LJ owner that took him in the top 3 would be reluctant to move him after one game which wasn't bad it just wasn't the all-world performance that many were expecting/used to. After two games, they may sweat a little more. Either way you will have to give them a strong offer (unless the owner isn't that good).

He has a nice team and has Gore/ Jamal/ as his other RBs. He is the one who put LJ on the market.

Last season I drafted SA, Arrington, LJ, Holt, Galloway and Driver in a redraft...

my first few weeks were ugly... but it's all about playoff time and I'd hate to be the opponent facing the LJ owner when KC gets things going.

Peak at the right time. :holds cup of coffee up:

oh man, I'd love to prey on the guy who puts all his chips into the Lewis/Gore basket.

They'll have 2 knees left between the two of them by season's end.

:goodposting: I suspect Johnson will have games this season with fewer total yards, but make no mistake about it, that was one of the worst games you'll see from him all season. The Chiefs were unable to get him enough rushes (and they'll realize that mistake during the week studying film; passing as much as they did when they didn't NEED to was a big mistake) and the offensive line will improve with time. Going up against Denver is a tough task, even with a guy like Willie Roaf, but just wait until weeks four and five when he plays Arizona and San Francisco back-to-back.I'd be surprised if he goes into week six with fewer than 400 yards and 5 touchdowns. Is that Johnson-like production? It might not seem it on the surface, but that's 1600 yards and 20 touchdowns over the season.

I changed the thread title to Week 4 after Bye.

The line has been the question mark throughout the entire offseason and they did nothing to dispell the question marks in game 1 against an average rush defense. I don't know why people would assume that it will improve much if at all. They lost one of the best OLineman of all time who was the QB of the line.Yes he will feast on the dregs but may also struggle against the good teams which didn't happen in the past.

I don't recall Barry Sanders or LaDainian Tomlinson having problems with a bad line. Or Tiki Barber. Dom Davis was top 5 two years ago.

Johnson will be great. He'll probably be among the league leaders in carries, yards and TDs.

LOL,cmon Jets they were behind by 14 points and stacking the line. All the guys you mentioned have had games like LJ had or worse. But just like some of the guys above you know it's only a matter of time before he breaks off a long run.LJ will be fine

You say Steve Young, I am thinking more along the lines of Rich Gannon. The hit that Green tooks was brutal. Legal but the violent natural of his head hitting the ground was scary. Green has had a nice career but a head injury like this he may want to consider packing it in. Gannon left the game with all his marbles and was lucky. I am hoping Green can do the same but at his age another head injury even milder than this one could be devastating.
