Here is a blurb talking about how the Chiefs may trade green before the team's organized activities start. If they don't, will they pull a Titan's and lock him out of the facility.

I always liked Green and thought him to be a class act. I'm not sure what is going on in KC, but I hope they don't humiliate Green and tell him to stay away if he is still under contract. Here's the blurb.

Chiefs | Team could trade T. Green before OTAs start

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Kansas City Chiefs could trade QB Trent Green before their organized team activities start May 21. Green is adamant he will attend, but the Chiefs do not want him to show up. The Tennessee Titans were in a similar situation in 2006 with former QB Steve McNair, and they ended up locking McNair out of the team's facilities, which later led to a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs would like to avoid doing the same to Green. The Miami Dolphins are also willing to budge off of their offer of a sixth-round pick for Green, which could help get a trade completed faster.

It's been fairly clear all along that cooler heads would not prevail here.

Green is in a position of strength though where McNair wasn't, Trent knows the offense he will be going to so the learning curve will be minimal when this does settle.

Mostly a non-story at this point. Odd way of teams handling businees IMO...

KC is still angry that Miami held them up for a 2nd on Surtain. Carl cant handle getting shown up. But the Chiefs will give in because they dont want to pay Green his dough ...The difference in the two situations is the amount Surtain made vs. what Green is slated to make ...

Is Green to Atlanta a possibility? Especially if it starts looking like Vick will get suspended? Maybe Miami should stop playing hard ball and get this deal done.

Business is business. Thr rules make the teams do what they do..nothing personal. On a side note if Green went to Atlanta..bump up their WRs.

it depends on what KC wants though. There were rumors at one point Peterson wanted a 2nd I believe (or at least a day 1 pick). Not sure what the cost is now though. If it's the difference between a 5th/6th, I agree they should get it done but if it's for a day 1 pick it ain't happenin.

Sure, business is business. But what I don't understand is if Green passes his physical and is ready, willing and able to show up to camp, how can the Chiefs tell him not to come. Isn't he under contract? Would they really pay him but tell him not to show up.

IMO, the Chiefs are really hurting Green in this mess. If he gets traded, he will need time to learn a new system and get acquainted with his new WR's. Green was a stand up guy for the Chiefs and played hurt and gave his all for the team. Sure, business is business but why go out of your way to hurt Green?

If they don't want to pay him and really think the answer at QB lies elsewhere, then make a deal or cut him. Only do it already!

I'm not sure why KC would think they can lock out Green when the same issue went to arbitration concerning McNair last season, and the arbitrator ruled that a team must allow a player under contract the ability to attend offseason workouts in its facilities. It was an issue of first impression when the Titans did this [which somewhat justifies the move], but it strikes me as a bad faith maneuver to do it after an arbitrator has ruled on this very topic just 1 year prior. Particularly when the team's "on the record" position is Green is competing for a starting job with the team. Why lock out a guy who is honestly competing for a starting position? Hopefully this gets expedited arbitration given the prior ruling.

Also, there's fallout from a lockout move in other ways. Last year, if you recall, the Titans' GM made this move unilaterally and it made Jeff Fisher furious. Fisher had been trying to keep things positive and was saying all the right things concerning McNair, and he had to find out after the fact that McNair had been locked out. There's a new GM in Tennessee now, and I think that little episode played a part.Players see what happened in Tennessee last year with a stand up guy like McNair and it has an effect on their opinions of the team, both players on the team and players around the league. The 'business is business' angle has been mentioned, but lockout moves are received as disrespect and something that will be remembered when players consider what organizations are desirable or not desirable to play for in future free agency.

It's all about injury risk and liability to the team. If Green is injured with the Chiefs, they pay for his medical treatment. They'd like to avoid that and maintain the status quo as much as possible to facilitate a trade. It comes across as an odd way to treat a star, but there's a method to the madness.

When the Titans tried to lock McNair out of the facility last year, he filed a greivance and won. Essentially as an employee (player under contract) they can't bar him from the facility or any camps, practices or anything else.

Green has every right to be at the Chiefs facility to work out and any voluntary or other camps etc he wishes to. If he gets injured the Chiefs are on the hook for his $7.2m salary.

Green has all the leverage here, Petersen has nothing.

Green has a contract restucture in place with Miami (the Chiefs let him negotiate it) and he said that he will only come to Miami. No other team is going to trade for a 7.2 mil cap hit.

Peterson is screwed here. Miami may up their offer just so he can "save face". As for the surtain deal, a second rounder for certain was highway robbery for the chiefs at the time. Surtain was the #2 CB in the league at that point.

Miami and Green have all the power here. I don't know why they'd even offer a 5th other than as a goodwill gesture for futur negotiations. At this point they can wait the 2 weeks and get him for nothing. Green knows the playbook and they don't have an urgent need to get him in there sooner.
