Trip to Nashville - Ideas Needed (1 Viewer)

Considering a weekend trip to Nashville and know next to nothing, have never been there.

If I'm there for 3 days/nights, where do you recommend I stay? What bars/sights/food do you recommend I try?

I would like to stay near the downtown area, if that's the place that has bars and fun like that.

Anyways looking for suggestions/cost and recommendations.

Thank you!

Stay within walking distance of the action.  Bunch of good hotels between 2nd and 7th.  I've stayed at the Hilton by the Country Music Hall of Fame, Omni, Renaissance, Doubletree, etc. All good.  All stayed near Vanderbilt at times and I'd rather be closer.  Look on TripAdvisor for top ranked hotels downtown.  Being in walking distance is the most important thing IMO.  I did enjoy the Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ole Opry, Ryman, etc.  Bluebird cafe outing would be cool.  Winners/Losers and others.  Plenty of bars and sights. Food? Depends.  Plenty of BBQ, plenty of meat and 3's, plenty of fried chicken including hot.  If seafood hearing good things about The Optimist.  Others will be a better help with restaurants as it's been a few years since I've been there.

A fairly recent thread with some good info. There are other threads on Nashville but a little older but still good info.
Yep just came here to post this link.  We stayed at the AC Marriott and liked the hotel and the location.  Easy walk to Broadway but fairly quiet area.

For bars the best thing to do is to start at one end of Broadway and go to each Honky Tonk floor by floor and hang at the places you like.   I highly suggest Yee-Haw Brewery which is walking distance and has a nice selection of beers and craft cocktails and has a really nice outdoor area to hang out.   Bearded Iris Brewery is also fantastic.

If you like the music of Steely Dan I highly suggest seeing "Twelve Against Nature".  These guys are amazing.

For BBQ we liked Martins Bar-B-Que Joint quite a bit.

Do the Ryman tour…lived here since 98 and just finally did the tour with family visiting a couple weeks ago.  We paid the extra 10 for the backstage tour.  You get to go into the dressing rooms and get some stories and walk across the stage.  Was worth it.

Legendairy Milkshake Bar…its crowded, its overpriced…its delicious.  Google them…hige, ridiculous milkshakes…but tasty and fun.

I think I mentioned it in the other thread, but if you’re into history, head to Franklin, for the Lotz, Carter, and Carnton sites. The former two are where the second battle of Franklin took place, and the third served as a battlefield hospital. Really drove home the knowledge that thousands of men died within eyeshot of where I was standing, and how brutal that must have been.

Uncle Buds?  Umm...no thank you.

But if you are in that area of Donelson...stop in to Homegrown Taproom, or Nectar for some good food and drinks.

For good Pizza and Beer...Tennfold is nearby as well.

Go to Dollywood if you can. Go ziplining through the Smokies.
Long drive from Nashville but it's nice out that way. Wife and mother-in-law just got back from there and went up to Anakeesta. Had a great time. Newer place so I haven't been there yet.

From a hotel perspective, we stayed at the JW Marriott last weekend driving through from Atlanta to IL. The pool was super nice and the food in the hotel (room service) was amazing. Some thongs at the pool as well, which was interesting. They had at least one restaurant at the top of the hotel, but didn’t seem kid friendly so we passed. The Westin, which we could see from the pool area, looked to have a pretty nice outdoor pool/bar area. Their pool butted up against the edge of the building, and we could see people swimming in it several stories up from us.

You really can't beat the state of Tennessee or the city of Nashville as a place to live or visit. Been here most of my life and I still love it. Just took the rest of the country a long time to find out.  I took it for granted for a long time.

Lots of good restaurants in Germantown.  Don't miss Monell's for a great family style experience.

Skull's Rainbow Room in Printer's Alley is a fun place to take in dinner and a show.

Go out to 12 South and walk around. A couple miles from downtown but a very cool residential area close to Belmont with a lot of restaurants. Has gotten crazy crowded out there but not as bad as downtown.

Yeah...downtown is nuts by any weekend afternoon.  Shoulder to shoulder people on broadway.  That and little more than flatbad/convertible bus one after another of bachelorette parties or other woo girls driving around.  I guess that is a positive if you are into that.

We stayed at an Airbnb right by Vanderbilt.    Hotels are very expensive for time spent in rooms.  There are plenty if nice Airbnbs for half the price. In Nahville getting a nice hotel to me is a waste as we only showered, gone all day and slept.  Never spent any time at hotel to enjoy a nice hotel.
