Troy Williamson done for season. (1 Viewer)

LINK for Troy

Local radio is saying Hughes was cut this morning, no link yet. EDIT: Now confirmed with same link as above.

WOW. These were WR2 and WR3 for the Jags to start the season. Obviously, bump up Holt and Sims-Walker and the rookies ( Thomas, Dillard and Underwood) should all get a shot now.

Feel bad for the guy.

I kind of feel bad for Hughes, as well. Cutting him looks like a typical Del Rio move- place the blame wherever it fits. Nate Hughes sucked, but he wasn't the reason the Jaguars lost.

One the flipside, I've been waiting to see what Thomas and Dillard can do. It's tough to see that when they are inactive each week.

Wow.I cringed like everyone else when Hughes batted the ball down in the endzone, but this feels like a bad move to me. I hope Hughes wasn't too well liked in the locker room.

Hughes and Williamson both being gone puts a lot of pressure on the rooks to perform. With an over the hill number 1 WR, a highly injury prone number two, and Dillard/Thomas/Underwood to round out the rest of the spots, I'm pretty anxious about the already struggling passing game. Even if Holt and Sims-Walker can get it going, I imagine Vegas would set loooong odds for them both being on the field later in the season. I wouldn't be shocked to see a rookie receiving core before the season is out.

More releases possible today. This article touches on the troubles in Jacksonville, and while it may sound a bit harsh to some I can tell you that I have heard far worse from sources close to the team. Things are very bad in Jagland and this year could result in an all but total house cleaning.

. It’s just my opinion, but the “leaders” this club supposedly has are too PC for my taste. Del Rio and Smith purged the roster of the guys who would tell a teammate the truth, without regards for a guy’s feelings. The departed guys, I guess, are the perfect example of “when keeping it real goes wrong.”

Either way, despite all the talk the organization feeds us about harmony in the locker room, there appears to be problems.

Any word on the rookies getting involved?

Sims-Walker is going to start opposite Holt, but will Dillard or Thomas get the slot role? Might dvr this game if they do.

That article makes it seem like they are going to let players go from the secondary. I hope they realize it could get worse. With the Williamson/Hughes losses, they are now down to 4 receivers (5 if they bring Underwood up from the practice squad). That doesn't leave the Jags with a lot of wriggle room at that position if any more injuries occur. I guess the competitive mask is coming off to show rebuilding in all of its glory.

But they have Ernest Wilford....he may be a factor. Garrard and he had a nice season hooking up with him for what 9TD's way back in 2006 I believe? Man that was so long ago. Probably won't matter...Wilford is toast.

IIRC they moved him to TE, so he may not even be at WR playing weight. What a mess.

Kid probably dropped the playbook on the way to see coach.

It was a bad performance. Not Courtney Taylor bad, but they were catches you gotta make at this level if you're replaceable.

Here is a key part of the article:

The source said Hughes’ release was 100 percent the work of general manager Gene Smith, and the coaching staff didn’t have a say in the matter.
Two things:A) Hughes, who got a lot of playing time in the first two games, was released without any input from the coaches including Del Rio.B) Here's the interesting part, this information about Gene Smith making the move without asking Del Rio was released to the press. This has to be a statement about what the Jags think of Del Rio at this point. He's in the second year of a $25m contract so firing him is difficult, but they obviously don't have any problem embarrassing him. Things are very ugly in Jacksonville right now and could get much worse very quickly. You have a GM that is obviously rebuilding with a 31 year old QB and a coach that likely only has a job because of his contract.

TE Greg Estandia, who had one of the many motion calls yesterday was also cut. Don't know if it means if rookie Zach MIller (the other one) is healthy.Yes, things are quite ugly now and spiraling downwards.

TE Greg Estandia released, S Michael Desormeaux waived & replaced by LB Justin Roland. Jags also sign rookie CB William Middleton off ATL practice squad and added rookie FA S Courtney Greene

There's no question of who is running this team now. The writing is on the wall for Jack Del Rio. I believe if not for the remaining portion of his contract, he would have been fired at this point. I understand that sub-par drafting has left the cupboard relatively bare, but this team is not very well organized and is not well coached. It's only a matter of when Del Rio gets fired at this point. And it is necessary.

from the news blogger....

Our view: Williamson had been a disappointment during the regular season, after being a preseason star. The Jaguars have unproven talent in their wide receiver corps, and should not miss Williamson that much.
but yet you go to the target page and williamson had 2 targets ecah week with 3 catches......seems more of an indication that the O sux.

That blocked field goal spoke volumes about where the team is at right now. It was like the players were moving in slow motion while reacting.I liked Del Rio, but it is obvious that he isn't helping this team get anywhere.

I'd say that's a decent example.

It get even more bizarre.

JDR is saying he's got no info that Troy Williamson is out for the year. Says he hasn't seen that info or any tests. Source says otherwise

What the hell is going on down there???
I have no idea. Michael C. Wright has been very accurate with his reporting on the Jags. So that basically means that Wright is wrong, that Del Rio is lying, or that the head coach, Del Rio, is more out of the loop than a local reporter. Man, what a mess.EDIT: To highlight my opinion on what's up. Wright is a good reporter and I doubt he'd go to press without very solid sources. I've also heard from folks that I know that Williamson is done for the season. I can't imagine that JDR is that far out of the loop so I'm guessing he's just lying for some reason. I have no idea why he'd lie, but he tends to do that.

I've never known MCW to put out bad information, so I'm not dismissing his info. This whole thing is so strange. A house cleaning is in order.

I know a lot of you love Walker, but hes so injury prone... and Holt is up there; the starting WRs in Nov could be Thomas / Dillard / Underwood.

Michael C. Wright is 100% solid in my experience. If he gets something wrong he was given it wrongly from the source.

This is the truth. Things are a mess there right now. They lost 17,000 ticket holders and they'll likely to put all of their eggs in one basket next draft and take Tim Tebow to try to sell tickets. Problem is, that won't solve all of their problems.

It's confirmed that Williamson goes to IR today. I still don't understand how the press knew this around noon and 5 hours later Del Rio still claims to know nothing about it.

It get even more bizarre.
