True Detective: Tom went in to listen to the Cardinals game...in November. Mmmmmhmmmm... (2 Viewers)

I think season 2's major problem is that it suffered from the same cheezy writing as season 1. Except MM turned it into a brilliant character where the lines were lame when delivered by VV.

It was none of those things. I think people couldn't get used to Vince Vaughn playing in a non-comedy.
Vince Vaughn cracks me up. Was hoping he would be a good villain but it just didn't work for me at all in this. The scene with him crying in bed talking to the redhead and the scene where he fought the mexican dude I remember thinking WTF am I watching.

Nah, I actually thought Vince Vuaghn's acting was fine. It was the dialogue. How much can anyone do with lines like "I've got blue balls of the heart."  They had him say something stupid every episode that was supposed to be either bad ### or philosophic, but it sucked.

They gave MM those lines in season 1. It's not that MM can pull them off and VV can't, it's that Vaughn's character was supposed to be a relatively normal guy. MM was a ####ed up junkie alcoholic who was barely functioning.  Junkie says something stupid and you're like "yeah, ok" but when normal guy says the same line it's more of what "wtf was that" reaction.

I heard this a ton as this thread went on during S2.  I suggest you watch Clay Pigeons, a 1998 flick with Vaughn as a total creeper.  I thought he was awesome in this.  Not so much in True Detective.

Totally agree with this.

Also felt the weirdness of the rural Louisiana was a better fit for the oddness rather than LA.

Coincidentally, since I have HBO free this month (for Hard Knocks), I went to HBO On Demand today and started watching season one again.

Now we have to Google our own entertainment info? Why do I even bother coming back to this board?

Rumors are that Mahershala Ali will star in S3. Twitter also thinks S3 will be an investigation into what the hell happened to S2.
