True Detective: Tom went in to listen to the Cardinals game...in November. Mmmmmhmmmm... (2 Viewers)

I listened to that after ... episode 3, I think. I thought it was really good because they caught so much #### that I just missed. I'll have to listen to this week's.
This weeks was really good. They also go into what was shown in the preview for the rest of the season

I recommend watching it on YouTube because they have lots of great photos they talk about regarding each episode

I think we’re to assume that once Woodard went kaboom, the true guilty parties planted the evidence and that was that. Regardless of other leads, if you get a guy the entire town suspects did it, he kills a bunch of people, and then you find evidence of the missing person, that’s probably about as far as things go.
That's a good point - but I will be disappointed if the culprit is a bi-racial couple in a brown sedan and the man has a scar and a dead eye.

I'm wildly speculating here, so no spoilers:

I bet the dead cop was the one who planted the evidence and was part of a bigger conspiracy, involving some big muckety-mucks in AR government. I also guess killing him was the bad thing Hayes and Rowland talked about doing on the backporch, as old men. Also, the mom's quote and the ransom note will come back as something. Probably that mom knew about the kidnapping and helped set it up, either for payoff or to get out of law trouble.

Theory from Vanity Fair (VERY SPOILER) -

  • The Hoyt's daughter kidnapped the girl to make up for her daughter that was kidnapped and killed (i didn't remember this but apparently it was mentioned in an earlier episode)
  • When the girl on tape referred to her fake dad and to leave her alone, she was actually referring to the AG Kindt, who was also on TV with the father. He helped cover up her kidnapping because the Hoyts are very politically connected.
  • Roland and Purple killed Officer Harris James - who was the one who found the backpack and planted it there. He is part of the cover up.

  Reveal hidden contents
The Hoyt’s? :oldunsure:   :bag:

i should probably put this is the “signs you’re getting older thread”.

Hey, I don't want to knock your thoughts but the highlighted reminds me of the crazy conspiracies back from season one where everybody from the governor to the chief of policy was in on it.  I highly doubt a huge conspiracy is going on for the kidnapping of one child and the murder of another.

But you could also be right - and I would obviously hate it if it came to that.

As for the mom and the quote - they definitely pointed us in that direction.  But it wouldn't be beyond belief to think those words got stuck in her head from the note and for no other reason.

I think there is a connection - and it was easy to reveal cause the mom is dead.

Killary is behind everything imo

This is the worst season so far.. Brutal
I don't get this.  I've heard it from others too.  I'm enjoying it a lot.  My wife never saw season 1 so we are watching it together while we wait for new episodes of season 3.  She likes 3 better than 1 so far.  What's not to like?

I watched 10 minutes of season 2.  Utter trash.

S1 was one of the best seasons of anything ever.  And I really think this season has been right up there.  Story is fascinating and the Ali/Dorff performances have been tremendous.

I mean, we pretty much know what happened now right...

Colonel Sanders took Julie, murders / killed brother, put cop on the payroll in return for planted evidence. That seems pretty cut and dry.  What mysteries are left?

Dead eye guy at the book signing?

Did Tom kill the cousin?

Did Tom’s proclivities lead to the children being a target?

I guess my big question is the dirty cop ended up missing.  That has to be from the employer and not Wayne and Roland, right?  If they did it, they’d obviously have the mystery figured out.

I could do without ALL the cigarettes, frankly.  When they were in bed at the beginning and sharing a smoke, he didn't need to light another one.  I get it, it's effect, but jeez.....lighten up on 'em.

People used to smoke, guy.

So Hoyt chicken owner paid mom for access to play with kids. One eyed black dude was Hoyts driver and gave kids the dolls. Cop was Hoyts security and planted the evidence.

This is my speculation

That all seems reasonable enough- I’m curios if they’ll link Hoyt to powerful season 1 people. They mentioned that on some podcast.

I dunno, how hard is it to find any color person with a "dead" eye?  And they said him and a woman were in the area.

I agree overhearing the conversation was a little weak but I also thought the dad going right to the room was weak as well (now the BIL could have told him how to get there but I find it unlikely the BIL had that much info).

A little worried after this episode.  I think they need to tie this one up tight rather than take the season 1 approach (which I did not mind at all for season 1).

Probably not bad but one-eye was seen with a woman - maybe the mom.  And he really didn't give them dolls.  Plus if he was aware of what happened I doubt he would have shown up angry at the book signing.
