Turo - the AirBnB of car rentals (1 Viewer)

Just used Turo for the first time. It was really easy and seamless. I rented a 2023 platinum Pathfinder really nice car and the price was half of what a rental agency would have charged me. I would definitely do it again.
Love turo. It is significantly cheaper as long as you don't pay for the insurance. Not sure what happens if you get into an accident. I know travel card doesn't cover turos.

Yep. Only use Turo unless I am going one way and am not returning car to pickup location.

Car rental agencies are stuck in the early 2000's still. Why the hell the long lines? I already reserved the car and gave all the info. Why am I giving the same info to a lady typing on a computer from the 90's? Just give me the damn keys and let me be on my way.

Compared to Turo. Car is parked in the daily fee lot with a prepaid parking ticket. Keys are in the car. Owner texts me a pic of where in in the lot the car is. I get off the plane, grab my bags, walk to the car and leave. Easy
I might need to splurge for this. I usually uber to the car to avoid the airport fee. I guess it saves me about 40 bucks but it is a bit of a hassle.
Thing is you don't need to splurge. In my experience it has been at worst the same price as rental agencies, and most times way cheaper.
I'm just talking about the additional airport fee that the owner typically charges to have it available for you at the airport. I uber to my turos rather than paying the fee for the owner having it waiting at the airport.

Ahh, gotcha. You can filter out that delivery fee and many times there are cars available for no charge. At least there was a year ago when I last looked

Ah, gotta look at that. Gonna be using it for 2 weeks in March down in Phoenix.

It was several years ago, but we got a Tesla for like 40 bucks a day in Phoenix with free charging. Was a screaming deal that I have not seen again, but you never know

Dot.

You guys were talking insurance... I have none- and no car. I use my AmEx to cover it for rentals and then pay for liability, which isn't covered through my card.

Is there any option like that here?

Not sure about the free charging but daily rates are crazy low these days on Turo. Much like Airbnb, supply on Turo got way oversaturated when demand was artificially high coming out of covid and tons of people bought cars to rent on Turo. Now there's way too many cars available in most markets so it's a race to the bottom on pricing. Bad for the owners, good for the renters. The biggest hinderance is Turo keeps raising their fees as they need to increase profits to make themselves attractive for IPO.

I see the filter for the delivery fee but the airport fee is different than the delivery fee.

I had my insurance agent check it out. I had the same coverage driv8ng the Turo car as if I was driving my own car. Declined the turo insurance

👍 Was reading a reddit thread earlier and multiple people would call the same provider and be told the opposite thing. The General impression is a lot of these folks don't even know about turo. Some guy in the biz said personal insurance by either the host or the renter wouldn't cover bc the vehicle is being used for commercial purposes. I guess worst case I'll have to buy someone a new car.

My agent wasn’t sure at first. she did some research and called me back to confirm.

I'm guessing an 8 day trip is tough to do on Turo?
Even a caveman can do 8
I just didn't think they were running out for that long. Although we are arriving and leaving from two different places so it's probably not likely to happen
Far longer than that. But the different locations won't work.
Yea, turo folks would love to rent their car for as long as you would pay the daily fee. May be worth inquiring with the owner about a different location drop off. Depending on where it is, that might work. Several of the turo cars I have rented were from dudes who bought a fleet of cars and were renting them out. One of them had cars in a few different locations.

Another dude I rented from owned a used car dealership. Rather than letting the cars sit on the lot, he rented them out, while still having them listed for sale. Thought that was a pretty brilliant little plan
