TV issues + questions (1 Viewer)

Was just at Costco.  Told my wife I would keep it under $600.  They had:

Samsung 60" for $550

LG 55" for 600

Vizio 55" 4K for $540

Leaning towards the Samsung, but will have to look at them a little closer.  I did notice the Samsung only had 2 HDMI inputs which is mildly annoying, but we could always use the PS4 for movies or get an HDMI splitter or something.

ETA:  I think the LG might have been 4K as well.
FWIW I got an LG 60" for $650 for Christmas, 4k.  So far so good.

The picture is weird though.  It looks completely different than my old HD TV (I honestly don't know if that was 1080p or 720p).  It was almost like going from standard def to high def, and seeing freckles and blemishes for the first time.  Will take some getting used to.

The problem is variable as to when it happens, but it does happen a bit at night (Turned off at least 3 times last night during my show).
Could  be a transformer that went bad. Happened with my led fish light. Shutting off to protect itself.  Probably a semi easy fix if you're comfortable doing that stuff. Tvs are so cheap these days so it might not be worth it

I have a pretty old Panasonic 720P Plasma in the family room that is our daily TV
My main tv is still my Panasonic 42 plasma. Think I got it in 08 Black Friday   It had a random shutoff a couple weeks ago and gave some weird error code. But fixed itself. Just wish I bought a 55 instead of the 42

Lol. I'm serious. Vacuum the vents on the TV.

You would be surprised how this "fixes" some electronics
Oh, I tried it.  I will be honest - there is a part of me that will be a little annoyed if it works after I got excited about getting the green light for something new.

Ended up getting the 60" Samsung from Costco.  Don't have their card, but got the extended warranty - 5 years should be plenty for a cheaper TV.  So far so good.  I was a little nervous at the start b/c the picture was great out of the box, but I went online and got couple suggestions for the settings on the TV and putz around with it and it looks great.  Most of the complaints I read were about only 2 HDMI, not great base, cheap remote, etc...  I don't care about that if the picture is good, which it ended up being - just in time for the games yesterday.

On another plus note, evidently the old TV didn't like soundbar I got with it (fittingly, also a Vizio), so I was ready to junk that too.  I haven't been using it for months now. Decided to plug it in and see, and it seems to be working now too.

Going to Costco today to take a look. My biggest fear is that I will buy something and then next week the OLED will drop under 2k
I doubt that will happen with the 65 in the next 18mths, the 55 is already under 2k though.

All newer ones should
okay so I can see why only 2 hdmi might be an issue
Why? Most sound bars can take multiple inputs no? So you connect your sources to the sound bar and then use the hdmi output on the soundbar to the TV input.

I have been in a similar boat as the OP having purchased 4 TVs in the past year.

TV 1- was a nice59 Samsung thin plasma (paid $1600 in 2012 maybe). I think my kid cracked it twirling a small aluminum flashlight, ended up fizzing out. Decided to replace with 60" Vizio for under $400 from sams.  No complaints so far.

TV 2 - bought a Vizio 32" for outdoo at Sam's for $130

TV 3 - replaced a nice LG Electronics 47LN5700 47-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV (2013 Model paid around $600) with a Vizio 43" sub $300 from Sams.  Sound wasn't great so got a $100 Vizio sound bar.  The LG wouldn't turn on one day.  I tried getting it fixed for $100, but it ended up breaking again.  He fixed it again, and then a line of pixels went out.  When I got the LG back I moved the new Vizio 43 outside.  Once I went to the bigger screen I couldn't go back to the 32".  Which led to,

TV 4 - 48" Samsung Led,- the 43" Vizio was too small, and the sound wasn't great.  The Samsung is pretty nice, but the sound is much better than the stock sound on the Vizio.  I now have the 43" w/ sound bar outside.  The Bluetooth bar makes a great outdoor speaker.

TV-2 the small one is sitting on the floor in my guest room.  It's either going in the garage, bathroom, shower, or giving to my parents for their guest room.

okay didn't know this. Ive never owned a sound bar but I know the newer TV's definitely lack in speakers

Maybe higher end ones?  I have a vizio 5.1 soundbar and it just has 1 HDMI in and out.  When I was looking in the price range (about 1 year ago), it was the only one I noticed that had HDMI at all, mostly they just had optical in.  So my choices were to get a 3->1 HDMI hub and plug 3 things into the soundbar with that, or put everything into the the TV and just use the optical out on that into the soundbar.

Yeah not sure where the cut off is. I have a Sony soundbar that has 3 HDMI in and 1 out. My confusion was around a sound bar causing problems with a TV with only 2 HDMI inputs, either you put your sources into the TV and use the digital out to the sound bar or you use the HDMI in on the soundbar and HDMI out to the TV.
