TV Shows you don't get (1 Viewer)

Maybe this has been done before, but I'm looking for shows that people just rave about that you've watched and either hated, or simply thought meh.

Most reality shows. My wife will be watching some stupid real housewives crap and I'll have the audacity to start talking about my day at work for 5 seconds, she'll hit pause on the DVR and wait for me to finish. When I'm done she'll hit play and it's a bunch of idiots arguing over who spilled wine on whose duvet cover. They're the most vapid women you could imagine. My wife is nothing like them, yet she's glued to it like it's the ####### moon landing. I don't get it at all.

It makes it worse if you start watching in its 6th or 7th season since whatever quality there was usually peaks in the first few seasons.

Survivor niw....i git it for a few seasons...but its just the same retread stuff over and over.

3rd Rock from the Sun...was never a Lithgow fan.

I have an unnatural hatred for "What Would You Do?"  I just hate the idea of placing people in uncomfortable social situations, and wasting people's times who are just trying to buy a coffee or something (and didn't volunteer for it), for some stupid TV bit.

:goodposting: Never got cringe humor or entertainment.

Contrived and preachy. That show sucks balls.

Big Bang Theory
Exactly what came to mind.

Or the sitcoms where a dumb fat schlub has a moderately hot wife and he is just a great guy doing his thing in the suburbs, CSI and NCSI, local news.

Now that I think of it the majority of programming on the CBS, ABC, NBC

Basically every highly rated CBS comedy ever.
Really? They've had some great shows. Of course, they may not hold up decades later, but All in the Family, Andy Griffith, Raymond, King of Queens, The Honeymooners, Lucy, Good Times......the list can get pretty long for CBS IMO.

Survivor.  People don't get enough conniving and backstabbing in their everyday life?  They need to watch it on TV too?

Wayward Pines -- this apparently is the name of a TV show that airs on Fox on Wednesday nights. What's it about? I have no idea. I've never watched it.

I'll amend that to 90s and beyond. I found King of Queens solid but never got Everybody Loves Raymond or pretty much everything else highly rated on CBS since.

Orange is the New Black,

I tried to watch it.  I wanted to like it.  I'm a big fan of the nekkid wimmens, but this show is unwatchable to me.

It will make me unpopular but The Wire.

Slow burns don't bother me and it should be right up my alley.  I loved Breaking Bad, True Detective, GoT, etc.  Seems like it typically falls in with those on people's lists, but it just never did it for me.  Couldn't get through season 2.

Are shows like Survivor and the Amazing Race gushed over by viewers and critics? I know people that watch both, but I've never heard anyone rave about the quality. I was expecting this thread to be more in the line of those above who busted Cheers out - a show that a #### ton of people think is legitimately great.

I  wanted to give Mr. Show a whirl. I love Odenkirk and Cross, but I couldn't finish the first episode. Terrible. I'm sure it gets better, but there's just too much other stuff to watch.

How about dexter?  Alot of people loved that.  Thought it was meh.  Add another for peaky blinders as well

Everything in my wife's DVR list

I have no idea how 1 person can watch so many crime and hospital dramas. I mean after a while don't they just start repeating themselves??

Cheers is one of the best ever.  I could watch that all day long.  This may be the first person I have ever talked to that didn't like it.  What was your issue with the show?  I am just curious what you didn't like
horrible, uninteresting characters.

look, it couldn't hold me for one single measley episode.

I'm not here to debate the merits you found vs the ####show I found.  it's all subjective.

PS- Carla was the worst

Game of Thrones

Couldn't care less. No idea why such a small group of people who actually watch it seem so vocal about it.

Big Bang Theory was tolerable the first couple of seasons when Penny (Kaley Cucco) was the Slutty/Trampy neighbor..

Now...they just stick her in moo moo's and Berkas.

Easily one of the best all time. Lithgow, Jane Curtain, Joseph Gordon Levitt who kicked ### even as a child, French Stewart hilarious in this, and even Wayne Knight falls in from Seinfeld eventually. Back stories with William Shatner, this show was great at making fun of us all.

Most reality TV, but I 'get' the contest shows.  There's a competition,  winners and losers.  I get that.

Even the romance ones, although I must say,  if the happy couple just walks away after filming,  where's the drama?

What I really don't get is the Big Brother/Real World shows, where the enjoyment comes from watching people embarrass themselves by behaving badly.  Which,  of course,  they are doing to get more air time. It's not even 'real' bad behavior.

I actually get physically uncomfortable when people are making fools of themselves,  so these shows are torture to me.  The format,  editing, etc. has not changed since Season 1 of Real World.

Don't get it.

How I Met Your Mother
While it fell apart in the second half of its run, Seasons 1-5 are among my favorite and it's still one of the shows my wife and I fire up on Netflix as we go to sleep.

But that's a quick reminder that my whole "I don't get highly rated CBS shows" take was ####.

Yeah that was my favorite show when it was on. For me only Seinfeld and The Office are better sitcoms. Maybe the Jeffersons.

I'm honestly never sure why or how MASH was such a hit. I know folks loved the show but I found it unfunny and the laugh tracks were annoying. And how was it a sitcom? It really wasn't funny material and the whole show and the time period it ran over IMO shows a lot about Americans during that time.
