U.S. Ambassador to Libya Killed in Rocket Attack (1 Viewer)

Whether you do it, or someone you've entrusted with the responsibility, it's still your responsibility..

I'm a general contractor. My primary line of buisness is high end remodeling and additions. If someone hires me to remodel their bath, and one of my carpenters shoots nails through a water line when installing some moldings, do I get to say, "it wasn't me"... "it was Joe, the carpenter"? You think I'd be off the hook? I didn't do it.. One of my employees did..
This is a great analogy, because being a general contractor and remodeling a bathroom is exactly like the POTUS running the country.

seeing how he appointed a totally unqualified person for that position then absolutely.

You apoint people to positions to take care of your responsibilities.. If you can't be relied upon to choose the right people to handle your responsibilities, then you're not a good president since pretty much most your work is apointing people and delegating responsibility..

Bush deserved criticism for the Katrina response, IMO. Katrina was pretty much the exact opposite of Benghazi. We knew it was coming, we watched it unfold in slow motion on TV for days, and yet the response was still extremely lacking.

With Benghazi, the event was over before virtually anyone knew what was happening, and the criticisms are that the right words weren't used to describe the event in the immediate aftermath.

Just illustrates how silly this whole Benghazi!!!!! scandal is in context.

There were warnings before the attack in Benghazi, and there were requests for security both before and during..

And then afterwards, a coverup, and it's been 8 months with no reprisal, or solution of any kind..

Yeah. A better analogy would be blaming the president of a 4,000 person GC for some failure at the lower levels. Do you blame the CEO of Ford when their service man ####s up your oil change? No.

PICKERING: The buck stopped. She'd already made it clear that the buck stopped with her. We were interested in where the decisions were made. And she did not make the security decisions that we felt --CROWLEY: Was that a problem, do you think?PICKERING: No, not at all. I think that it was behind the legislation. We looked in to what the Congress was saying at the time it passed the legislation to set up the process. And they said it is traditional for heads of agencies to take responsibility then nobody goes down and finds where the decisions were made. And that's what we'd like to see. And we'd like to have people held responsible for their performance in those decisions.

Yea, that's a better analogy.. The state department = Jiffy Lube...

The president appointed Clinton directly, and Clinton was directly in contact with her people at the state department.. A Ford CEO has no clue who changes oil..

These are high level decisions, and the administration is responsible for them..

There were warning signs about Benghazi. Our men on the ground requested help before it started. The decision was made to not beef up security. Feel free to argue that it isn't a big deal. But don't misrepresent the facts.

For one, I never sad the protest in Cairo was equal. Gonna need a link to that. Secondly, you started the ridiculous comparisons with comparing it to your little GC. Yeah, a home remodeling GC is a much better comparison than a huge company to the State Department. Then, what political ties does Pickering have? He was appointed Ambassador to the UN by Bush. Reagan was a big proponent of the guy. And he hasn't even been in office in more than 10 years so I'd love to hear his connections to Hillary or Obama.

But I still love the GC comparison. Then jump on me when I make a better analogy. Keep doing you.

This whole Benghazi thing is starting to take on a birther-like sense of desperation for the Republican Party. Sad, really. What a once-proud party that used to be.

See, we have all this evidence about the State Department changing it, Obama not calling anyone the night of, etc. Surely, there is evidence that the directive came from Obama right? At the moment, the two changes the WH apparently made were changing it from a "consulate" to a "diplomatic post" which seems fair since it wasn't a consulate and a syntax error. If there is more proof the WH did something, I'd like to see it. As for the State Department, the narrative that the State department wanted to cover their ### works for me. It seems Nuland did a lot of the changes b/c they didn't want to admit fault as the CIA absolved themselves off all their responsibility. Again, links to Kennedy or Clinton don't exist with changing the talking points, and I sort of do the whole "innocent, until proven guilty" stuff so proof or carry on with your baseless allegations.

LOL, and your response would be the carpenter is fired and I am here with new carpenters and plumbers to fix the damage. Not "This happened so long ago who cares?" or as you say "it wasn't me!". It is amazing that after all we have been through as a country in the last 20 years people still lick up being lied to and defend their sides lying with but but Bush or but but Clinton. We have gone completely off the rails as a political populace. Our politicians always have lied to us but it seems there was a time when we cared. And to relate it to another scandal, Clinton did not get impeach because he got a BJ in the oval office, he got impeach because he lied UNDER OATH about getting a BJ. If instead of saying "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." he said "I did have sexual relations but I am sorry and apologize now." he would never have been impeached and it would have saved a lot of time and energy and he might have got more done. Even in so harmless an episode if you can't see the damage the lying does when the President does it, there really can't be much more said.
indeed....much of the runup to the Iraq war occurred during the BJ Clinton timeframe. The mass hysteria about WMD, operation Desert Fox, bombing an aspirin factory said to be a chemical weapons facility and joint venture by Saddam and Osama, putting into place an official policy of the deposing of Saddam Hussein, the games with the weapons inspectors etc.Had Clinon not lied, the Iaq war may nevr have happened IMO.

And Hillary herself was compromised when she made her Iraq War speech, she specifically brought her husband's administration into the debate, which gave additional cover to Bush Jr., and thoughts of her own future ambitions could not have been far removed.

One interesting thing about the voters who think Benghazi is the biggest political scandal in American history is that 39% of them don't actually know where it is. 10% think it's in Egypt, 9% in Iran, 6% in Cuba, 5% in Syria, 4% in Iraq, and 1% each in North Korea and Liberia with 4% not willing to venture a guess.

I'm comparing public awareness of the locations of the sites of the two events in question.

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_National_51313.pdf

Sadly this whole thing just looks like a cross-tab of our nation, politically divided, Romney voters rushing to one side, Obama voters to the other, 45/45, 10% undecided, many many many unaware of who what where when how of any of it. Turn on Fox/Msnbc, ask questions later or better yet don't ask them at all.

ETA: Even the phrasing of the question is terrible.

Which one is worse? Well Watergate because it resulted in the resignation of the president. Or Benghazi because it involved the deaths of Americans. Or Watergate because they got the tapes of Nixon. Or Benghazi because the WH blocks obtaining emails. Or Watergate because it involved spying on a political party. Or Benghazi because the election was much closer. Etc. Etc. People decide how they want to answer it, then they justify it.

Of course 10% think Benghazi is in Egypt. How else could a protest in Cairo result in a terrorist attack on an embassy in Benghazi?

By the way, on "defending" this, look at the actual poll, Page 4:

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_National_51313.pdf

Obama voters - which reject the notion of there being a Benghazi scandal oughly by the same margins that Romney voters support it - on where exactly Benghazi is:

Romney voters MORE CORRECTLY identify the location in Libya by a margin of +11% (64%-53%).

12% or 3% or 1/3 more Obama voters have it in Egypt. - Now as Hang 10 points out just above, this makes sense because somehow this is the connection Obama & Co make.

300% / Three times more Obama voters have it in North Korea (3%-1%).

More Obama voters have it in Syria than Romney voters (8%-7%).

Thoughts?

A: You should have a clue what you are talking about.

Some voters didnt know where Benghazi was, and as such didnt make a determination.

The fact that people don't know were Benghazi is, isnt news. What is note worthy is the people who call it the BIGGEST SCANDAL IN AMERICAN HISTORY, and yet dont know where it is is laughable.

Well heck you could say the same thing about people who answered the other way too. Not to mention those people who probably have no idea what and where the Watergate hotel was or what the Teapot Dome was and where.

I mean the whole thing is a reflection of voters jumping on wagons going every which way just based on whether there is a donkey or elephant painted on the side.

- People do know Watergate and Benghazi involved accusations of presidential lying though.

A: You should have a clue what you are talking about. Some voters didnt know where Benghazi was, and as such didnt make a determination. The fact that people don't know were Benghazi is, isnt news. Or as so eleoquently stated by our Secretary of State:

"Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night and decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference – at this point, what difference does it make?"
Brava.

This is a new one.

Well, exactly - not.

People feel a little different about things now.

This whole Benghazi thing is starting to take on a birther-like sense of desperation for the Republican Party. Sad, really. What a once-proud party that used to be.
Sad, really how the Obama admin is so corrupt. And, that so many Americans are blind. How many of these cases do we need?

Fast and Furious

People accusing Obama of lying is a new one to me. What do people say he lied about?
