What's wrong with his 2004 numbers? You can't blame a guy for getting hurt. IIRC, he got hurt early on in that 7th game, so he basically had 416 yards and 2 TD in 6 games = on track for 1100 yards and 5-6 TD. Granted, his ypr was high (26.0) so I doubt he would have had that type of season.

The Pats never game him much of a shot. I think he is an ok 3rd receiver for a team, but fantasy wise I don't see him being a great option. I think he still has the skills to maybe even be a WR2 (NFL wise) if he works his way in somewhere.

I think part of his success (or even lack of it) in Cleveland was due to the fact they had so many so-so options and were far from a great offense. I think he could do well in a KC or MIN if they gave him a shot. Not great, mind you, but decent in NFL terms.

corrected in 1st post, thanks

I recall hearing that Davis may get more of a shot in NE should Givens leave.
I haven't heard that. Where'd ya see that? I was thinking he's curiously absent from all the NE WR articles

I read that too but can't remember where. Something along the lines of he's hoping to get more of shot in New England with Givens out of the way. Not that BB is sold on him being an answer. Actually, I think I read it in yesterday's Sunday Globe (3/5).

Reality? Andre Davis is nothing more than a speed guy. Think Bethel Johnson, but active.

Fantasy? Dime a dozen. There's plenty of Andre Davis' out there.

The guy was recovering from an injury when he first got to NE. It was known that he would not be ready. Add that to being behind the curve in learning their system...he opportunites were going to be limited no matter what. NE started to catch on towards the end that he was a quick big play threat.

As a fantasy owner, he is going to be a classic example of feast or famine type player. You either make it big by starting him and blowing out your opponant or kick yourself in the butt for playing him.

From what I've seen, the Pats seem to think he likely wants more playing time and more $$$ than the Pats are willing to give him, so they only have lukewarm interest at this point.

Bingo. While excited when he got here I was not impressed with him at all. He really doesn't do too much. His hands are so so and his route running skills are nothing special. He has some speed and can run pretty much run one solid route where his speed can get him some seperation like it did with his TD against the Saints. He did help out on special teams but in the end (like you said) this guy is nothing special in either fantasy or real football.

A 99 yard TD catch is helping to bloat Davis' 2004 numbers a bit. He still has a nice YPR even with the long TD factored out of his totals though.

He hurt his foot after that 99 yd TD, so dunno how it really bloated his numbers. He was basically done for the season after that game.

Andre' Davis to Bills

The Buffalo Bills have announced the signing of former Patriots receiver Andre' Davis.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Davis is the first Patriots player to officially sign with a new team. Terms of his new deal are unknown.

In 2005, Davis played in nine games (four starts) and totaled nine catches for 190 yards and one touchdown. He also found a niche at the end of the year as a gunner on punt coverage.

Entering free agency, Davis was looking for a team that would provide him an opportunity to start. In Buffalo, Eric Moulds, Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish top the depth chart at receiver, although Moulds' future is uncertain due to a high salary cap number.

Speaking on the Bills' official web site, Davis commented on his time with the Patriots.

"It was great. They were coming off a Super Bowl win and a lot of those guys on that team had two or three Super Bowl rings. You couldn't ask for much more when it came to experience and being able to learn from those guys. I've learned a lot from them. It was a great group of guys to be around. They were a first-class organization."

Davis said he was recruited in Buffalo by quarterback Kelly Holcomb, his former teammate in Cleveland.

"Kelly was probably the biggest influence of me coming here," Davis said on the Bills' web site. "He was the one who was contacting me before anything happened, recruiting me, saying I had to come over here for a visit. In talking to Kelly, I wanted to come here and give Buffalo a chance to really see what they had to offer."

Known for his speed, the 26-year-old Davis cost the Patriots a 2006 fifth-round draft choice when he was acquired from the Browns in the 2005 preseason. The Patriots still have a 2006 fifth-round pick, acquired from the Raiders.

The Patriots have only two receivers from 2005 under contract for the upcoming season -- Deion Branch and Bethel Johnson.

Not a bad signing, as long as they didn't over spend for him. I doubt they did, but various teams were interested in him. I think it's good for them because he can help provide some big play potential and doesn't kill them via cap. Does this mean Evans becomes slightly more the posession type WR? Now they need a QB that can throw past 10 yds! ;)

I'd like to see the numbers, but if he is finally 100% healthy I like the signing. This signing makes me think that Fairchild is bringing over the St. Louis style offense with him. A 4 WR set with Moulds, Evans, Parrish and Davis could be pretty dangerous.

Now they just need Orlando Pace at LT...

As for Davis, Buffalo is trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

A second-round pick of the Browns in 2002 who wound up with New England last season, playing sparingly, Davis has size and speed (4.37) to match Lee Evans. He has 102 catches for 1,602 yards and 14 TDs with 23 career starts, but a toe injury that required surgery has slowed him the past two years.

The Bills felt he was more than worth the gamble, giving him a one-year, $1.3 million deal.

"You need more than two receivers in today's game," Levy said. "He's got speed and he has the ability to go deep. You don't just have starters in this league anymore. He certainly would be right in the fight for a starting position. His experience would be very valuable. We like him - smart, fast, good size. What is there not to like?"

Said Davis: "I know if I can get a healthy season together I'll be able to help a team out."

Bills quarterback Kelly Holcomb, his ex-Browns teammate, helped recruit Davis.

*********

Didn't know he was as fast as Evans. Good for the Bills
