UFC wagering: no longer stuck with the old thread title. The window to change it is here! (12 Viewers)

What's the story with Dominick Cruz? I see on ufc.com that he's still listed as the champion but has he fought since he got injured during TUF? How long has it been since he's fought, and is he ever going to fight again? I really liked him on TUF and would like to root for him but is he ever coming back?
He was 7 months into recovery from that TUF injury his body rejected the cadaver ACL. He had to have it done again, essentially resetting his clock. Current estimates have him still at 6-8 months away from returning.
yeah, i thought i heard they may put him on the February card. just a real crappy situation for Cruz, hope he is able to come back and look close to what he was before the injury

Penn vs Edgar for the The Ultimate Fighter 19 coaches. They will fight at feather weight at the end of the season. Season starts in April 2014.

Penn at 145? That is a decent cut at his age.

The original plan was Uriah vs Edgar but they could not agree on weight class.

*Rousey is either a great actress or missing something up top. Miesha looks and sounds so normal compared to her

*I find it interesting that in still pics, Rousey looks more attractive than Tate, but when the camera is rolling Tate looks nicer

*Another great fight between the two #1 picks. I feel like 90% of the women's fights I have seen have been really fun. I know long time fans know a lot about Shana, but I can't see how a veteran of 11 years in the sport committed the mistake of not respecting her opponent. So dumb. I still think though she will get on a UFC prelim card some time in the next 6 months and get her shot.

but but, they edited it to make Rousey look bad!

And even in stills, Tate is way hotter.

So happy Rousey's awesome plan to pit #1's backfired. Even better when her girl was so disrespectful. Even in defeat. And Julianna is nice to look at.

Ronda's making the show good though, i like how emotionally involved she is. The first 15 minutes of the show almost had me checking out when they were kicking around the romances in the house, and was glad they moved past that quick. that got annoying real fast

Yeah was mostly just the women saying no thanks, which hopefully means that is done with.

I enjoyed it but I have the same problem with this show as I do with all other "reality" shows. I dont like how they edit them to steer your perceptions and/or emotions.

After watching 30 mins about how good and experienced Shana was compared to the new girl I was ready to bet the house on the new girl. It is just annoying that most of these shows go for the holy #### moment by editing.

Having said that it was a really good show. I felt bad for the guy with the torn hamstring.

I will now predict that if they keep talking about that guys hurt hand pre fight next week, he will win with a knockout punch.

I agree. The ham handed set up ruined the "upset."

In general I agree with both of you, but from everything I have read about this fight, they had little choice in the editing. There did not appear to be a single person in the house who thought she was going to win. Even Mesha was apologetic saying she never expected Ronda to go after her with her number 1 pick.

On the bus ride home from the fight she supposedly asked everyone in the car and not a single person said they thought she was going to win.

This was as shocking an upset I think as has ever been on the show so the editing really just reflected that.

* Cringe worthy scene with Rousey having to call over her coach at the bar like she was seven years old "can you believe he said my striking needs work?" And then the amazon ### bump thing on Caraway at the end, WTF? Good lord she is coming off uglier than I expected and some say it is going to get worse. And this does not appear to be an act like say Koscheck with GSP.

* Is it wrong that I may be falling in love with Roxanne more than any other girl I am not in any way attracted to? :) I know this season has not been kind to the female vets but I hope she can pull off one win in the house.

* With the short fight, I guess we were "treated" to more of the high school flirting crap. Holdsworth came off looking like kind of a jerk imo. The level of immaturity in the house has always been ever present since season 1 but it is interesting how the dynamics of the immaturity change when the sexes are mixed.

* Hard to get a read on the fight with the losing fighters hand swollen like an infected bee sting, but Holdsworth did appear to have some very nice snap to his punches.

Dana with his thoughts on Uriah Hall. I ca't say I disagree with White

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Uriah Hall came out of The Ultimate Fighter 17 earlier this year with a ton of hype following several violent finishes while in the house. He's thus far entirely failed to live up to that hype, putting in much poorer performances against both Kelvin Gastelum and John Howard to lose his first two fights in the UFC.

Following that most recent defeat, which took place on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 26, UFC President Dana White seemed as frustrated as anyone given the hype he himself placed on Hall.

"I love Uriah Hall," White said after Saturday's post-fight press conference (via MMAJunkie.com). "I have a great relationship with this kid. He's one of the nicest human beings you'll ever meet. He's not a fighter, man."

"He was this killer that everybody was afraid of on 'TUF,'" White continued. "Then he comes in to the big show, where it all really matters and where this is going to make your livelihood and everything else, and he turns into this different person, this super-nice guy.

"He was telling me when I talked to him after 'TUF' like, 'You know, I just really like [Gastelum]. He's a really nice guy.' OK. Well that really nice guy just took every f***ing thing you ever wanted. Do you understand what I'm saying to you?"

It's that change from being in the house to what he's done in the cage that doesn't make sense to White, and he's got no idea yet whether or not Hall's got a future in the UFC.

"If I could take Brad Pickett's brain and heart and put it inside Uriah Hall's body, holy s*** there would be some damage done," White said. "Uriah Hall has all the physical attributes to be amazing. He's got speed. He's got power. He's just unbelievable. He doesn't have what it mentally takes to fight here. That was a high-five competition.

"Listen, you're a nice guy. I get it. We're not here to f***ing high five. We're not here to shake hands. You do all that s*** when the fight's over. You're here to fight... I don't know. I've got to think about this one."
i haven't seen enough of his fights one the regional scene, but i never got the impression that he was like that before TUF. I am not sure if it is a maturity thing, or something he can work on, but it will be a shame if we don't get to see him fulfill some of his potential. Have to think UFC won't release him though, Bellator and everybody else would suck him up in a a heartbeat and hope he can develop and build some confidence.

And i disagree a little with Dana, especially when you look at the 1st round. He was throwing nice crisp jabs, and was engaging well. Quite a few takedowns, but mixed it up enough, and was throwing some nasty kicks. definitely fell off between rounds, but he looked like a normal fighter in the 1st. It is just a weird thing, it isn't like he is afraid to get hit or he cowers after being attacked. he just flakes out in fights, and seems to try too hard to act relaxed. It isn't like he doesn't have a killer instinct seeing how he was killing dudes in TUF.

Certainly a good spot where the UFC could use a feeder organization to send him for a year and see if he develops more or if he just can't get over the hump
real nice fight lined up for Hall next, Hall vs. Leben for UFC 168. I like that match-up, if Hall can't beat Leben that should be it for Hall, but if he wins, like he should, it's a nice boost for him. Leben will press him and make him fight

he fights out of Team Alpha Male, so i'm thinking that did help.

and Roxxi is an easy one to like. you really have to look up her interviews with ariel and stuff from her from years ago. Her personality is infectious and would make anybody a fan of hers

Yeah, the UFC has set themselves up pretty good with some nice young guys coming up. I remember when Chuck and some of the old guard left or retired and people thought the UFC was going to decline in popularity significantly. They have some good guys holding over and there are a lot of young guys who are either just starting in the UFC (Thatch, McGregor, a bunch others i can't think off the top of my head) or have begun to step into their own (Matt Brown, Pettis, Johnny Hendricks, etc. etc.).

i also wonder if they feel the current number they have is the cap of guys they can have in the UFC. Their international expansion keeps growing and growing, and i think the latest i heard was the UFC was around 450 fighters or something. Just have to wonder what their max capacity is with that and if they think they have hit a spot where they can't have anymore.

Actually, we can break it down a bit. Let's say the best the UFC can get is 1 card/week. This goes against their idea of having multiple cards going on in different countries around the same time (and they could still be going with this considering Dana just set-up Cung Le as the "Dana White" for China), so maybe the max is significantly more than that. But for this, let's make it simple and say 52 cards a year. I believe we usually see 13 fights per card, maybe 12, so let's say 25 fighters each card. So roughly there are 1300 fighter slots per year, and if we give each fighter 3 fights per year, we would have 433 fighters on our roster. Have to account for injuries, and some of those long-term, so maybe the ideal number is around 450 or so, with about 30-35 fighters who are right on the fringe they can call up and down when needed (like John Doomsday, etc.). But i guess they have a lot of guys who get to the end of their careers, where you don't see 3 fights a year, maybe 1, like Nick Diaz, Rich Franklin, BJ. So I guess you have a fluid roster, that maybe averages to 450 a year, but can get as high as 480 or so if you have a few of these things factoring in.

Sorry for the rant there, but i like to think about random questions for MMA

Also, i watched quite a bit of the Bellator event tonight. Have to say i enjoyed it, it was like the old Bellator with out flaunting Rampage, Tito, or guys definitely on the down side of their career. I don't mind the random one's from time to time, but I think they need to not have them as main events or even at the top of the cards (Alexander-Janitor), and I would even be ok if they are simply fights on the card. I like the tournament format, and i think Bellator has taken the right step with their weekly shows to have a few fights on the card for the tournament, but not load it up to over-saturate. I definitely liked the 8 man tournaments better than the 4, but Bellator may be able to save themselves and not self-destruct if they stop worrying about competing with the UFC and jsut do what has worked for them.

One thing that is funny to think about is how Bellator cards used to have tons of crazy submissions and other highlights. I guess maybe that occurred because of lesser talent on the roster so there was more opportunities to try some crazy stuff. Just strange that i can't think of many highlights that stand out over the last year or 2, and the last great fight they had was Eddie-Chandler. The fights on the card tonight though were pretty good, so maybe they just need to keep with not worrying about making superstars like King Mo, etc. (though from a betting perspective i love it. Hit Burley at +900 over Bubba Jenkins tonight :pickle: ) and worry about letting guys develop and making sure they are scouting the best fighters who are up and coming. I know they tried getting up and coming Russian guys, but maybe look to work with OneFC and share some fighters through that. After Strikeforce died it seems the idea of organizations working together died too, but i would like to see that come back. Maybe once a year they have WSOF vs. bellator cards

That was her coach, Rousey, all up in her ear. The lady who said she's going to retire undefeated

Was a pretty big fan of her's before the show... but now I can't wait until someone smashes her face in. Hopefully it's that Vera De Milo lookin Peggy chick that she picked.

it's going to be interesting to see how it turns out for Rousey. Will she get booed for her next fight? will it effect sponsors or other opportunities like movies?

What does it mean for the sport that no one is talking about the fights tonight?
it means there have been a lot of cards lately, and NFL, etc. shares the spotlight. i think people will still watch, and they may lose some PPV buys because of this, but probably people who have the resources and would buy it will still do so. for me, there are a lot of good cards this fall. money is tight, so it's a no buy. i don't think the card is particularly watered down or anything, but i do think the Fox deal will spread the cards a little thinner as it goes on.

i also think a big factor is the main card isn't particularly competitive. Can't see jones losing, and i'm a Wineland fan but same thing there. Phillipou-Carmont and Meathead-Schaub are fights i will certainly watch and enjoy, but don't excite me enough to fell i have to see them live and pay for them

It is still arguably the UFC's biggest star in a ppv fight. I guess this ends the argument. Even though Jones is a much more exciting fighter, he isn't on GSP's planet yet for star value. I think Gusty has a shot, but I'm probably clouded by just wanting him to take the upset.

They want Rousey to be a heel anyway. Dana already called her a female Diaz brother some months back. I doubt it will end badly for her.

I'm watching the prelims now. Great 2nd fight.

I paid for Henderson v Pettis because that was a premier fight. Jones v Sonnen or Jones v Gustafsson isn't going to get me to open my wallet. Not really Jon's fault that LHW is empty of talent right now though.

I'll pay for Jones v Cormier, but I'm not sure if the average fan sees that as a great fight.

Lately, I've been getting a small green box. I just click the box and 9 times out of 10, it goes away no harm no foul. The other times it tries to open a popup, which I quickly close.
