man, kind of crazy when they show the crowd during fighter entrances. Does look kind of empty there

ETA: and not a good sign when you can hear WWE chants of "#### You Cena" in the middle of the Curran fight.

King Mo fighhting a lot better tonight. I'm not a fan of his at this point, but it is good to see him fight smart, and not like a complete buffoon when he got KO'd the first time they fought

Yeah, i'd like to retract most of this. Good first round by Mo, outside of that not looking so good

Yeah not very impressive outing by Mo. Newton did great job keeping the distance.

No one dominated, but Newton more active. Scored 48-47 in best case for Mo

this show is just a mess. hoping nobody gets screwed with the DVR. It's 12, and they haven't even started the main event

only way Bellator can try for PPV or big cards is to have Chandler and Alvarez fight each other each time. Or if they wanted to get crazy, have tag team fight of Eddie and Chandler vs. 5 LW fighters on the rest of the roster

it is amazing that these guys may get close to fight of the year again. Alvarez probably has 4 or 5 that were close to being fight of the year in his career.

Yep, years away (if ever).

They need to get appropriate sized venues as well. Depressing and comes off horrible on TV when you've got a 1/5 full arena. Cards on Spike is the way to go for quite awhile..The only way Bellator would get a quick fix is to somehow get a top star or two (in their primes) to defect from UFC. And there's no shot of that happening & wouldn't recommend going that route anyway.

They're in a tough spot. I think the whole TUF reality TV has run its course for a bit. UFC did a real nice job building some stars going that route.

great fight, again. Im not sure how much Jimmy Smith's call was affecting my judgement of who won. It was very close, and now we get to see a third fight between them.

Glad to see Eddie win after what Bellator did to him, hope he wins the mandatory rematch and then sticks it to them and leaves.

Here is the payroll for the Bellator event. Does the UFC do the same with TUF in the one time payout to the winner? I always thought the $100k contract was for a certain number of fights.

Main Card

* Eddie Alvarez: $160,000 (includes $80,000 win bonus)

* Michael Chandler: $95,000

* Emanuel Newton: $20,000 (includes $10,000 win bonus)

* Muhammed Lawal: $10,000

* Daniel Straus: $40,000 (includes $20,000 win bonus)

* Pat Curran: $40,000

* Joe Riggs: $100,000 (includes $95,000 "Fight Master" win bonus)

* Mike Bronzoulis: $5,000

* Mike Richman: $14,000 (includes $7,000 win bonus)

* Akop Stepanyan: $3,000

Preliminary card

* Cristiano Souza: $6,000 (includes $3,000 win bonus)

* Alejandro Garcia: $2,000

* Jesse Juarez: $6,000 (includes $3,000 win bonus)

* Joe Williams: $3,000)

* Brandon Halsey: $10,000 (includes $5,000 win bonus)

* Hector Ramirez: $7,000

* Mike Guymon: $14,000 (includes $7,000 win bonus)

* Aaron Miller: $4,000

* Cleber Luciano: $6,000 (includes $3,000 win bonus)

* Joe Camacho: $2,000

* Josh Smith: $3,000 (includes $1,500 win bonus)

* Darren Smith: $1,500

A meh card.

Pretty good main event, but this was the first I've seen of King Mo and that was a really boring fight.

My fav. part was when one of the early fighters tried a "Sakuraba Hammer(fist)".

Shocked Sakuraba doesn't get talked up more as one of the GOAT in this sport.

Bellator's best event of the year on paper and best fight possible delivered record ratings for the organization on Saturday night, as Spike TV announced on Monday that Saturday's Bellator 106 event drew an average of 1.1 million viewers.

The broadcast peaked with a 1.1 rating and 1.4 million viewers just prior to the night's main event between Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez, easily besting all other Bellator programming on Spike TV this year.

It was the #2 program on cable in the key demographic of men 18-49 as well.

The main event saw Alvarez edge past Chandler by split decision to recapture the Bellator Lightweight Championship, and for those that missed it the first time, you'll have a second chance this Friday night. As a lead-in to Bellator 108, the main event will be rebroadcast beginning at 8PM ET.

UFC Fight Night 31 tonight. Loads of fights heading into TUF. Fun night.

Right now I'm on Khabilov, Davis, Chiesa, and MarkesRomero. Working on some others, likely Bermudez for sure, although damn Siler has done it before and Bermudez is really up/down in my book.

Anyone think the Kennedy/Natal fight ends up with anything besides a decision for Kennedy? That's a rough 5 rounds.

Just watched Fighting for a Generation: 20 Years of the UFC. Good stuff. It'll be on again next week (starting Sunday night) on FS1 and FS2.

Gustafsson vs Manuwa. Perfectly reasonable matchup :unsure:
He was originally supposed to fight Nogueira. They aren't going to give him Texeira because they don't want to derail his hype just yet. Who else is left? Hendo and Machida moved to MW. Evans and Sonnen are booked to fight each other.

That leaves either Phil Davis (who I think he should be fighting) or a bunch of middle of the pack guys. They choose the exciting middle of the pack guy who just so happens to be from England over the boring wrestler who destroyed him in the 1st round the last time they fought.

I guess. I thought Manuwa was waaaay down on the list. Man the LHW division has gotten weak. Manuwa is nice and flashy but hasn't done anything in the UFC. Just surprised he'd get a shot at the #2 guy.

wow, that ending i the Krause-Green fight was one of the weirdest i've seen in awhile. Have to say Jon McCarthy blew that one a bit. I liked he took a point for the 2nd big kick in the balls, but then to flip it and call the fight like he did was weird

by the way this is the Fight for troops card. it's on fox sports 1 right now. very little promotion for this card so i know it was easy to miss, especially with it starting so early

natal have a shot tonight?
a shot might be the best way to describe it. He is in on short notice, and Kennedy is likely to grind him out in a long boring fight. but who knows, maybe Kennedy chooses to mix it up and Natal gets lucky. Not sure i will have anything on that fight though

i really think one of my favorite things in MMA are just devastating leg kicks. I'm glad they have caught on more too, but the leg kicks by Davis on Carmouche were just filthy. It is really enjoyable watching the systematic breaking down by leg kicks.

and i'm amazed at some KO's sometime. Looked like Kennedy grazed Natal there, and he isn't known for power punching, i just don't know how some punches can KO somebody sometimes. They always talk about the "button", but the "button" always seems to move position based on who is talking about it. and it is strange how some shots never can find the button, but other do.

just did some searching on it. It seems there is all kinds of stuff saying it is on the point of the chin, some nerve behind the jaw, and the temple. lot of crap sites out there talking about it, and it seems the whole nerve behind the jaw seems like it doesn't exist, so anybody know?

My guess is that it is the sudden jarring of the head, but can't find anything that seems to support any consistent idea. here is a thread on sherdog that isn't total garbage (only read a bit, so maybe it is)

ETA: actually checked the thread a little more, good read. Not sure where it went with my original post

if the kid posting on there isn't b.s.'ing

I remember reading somewhere (cool source, bro) that it was trauma to the vagus nerve which caused a KO. I don't remember the article being overly compelling, but I also never heard a better explanation. Google 'vagus nerve knockout' for some reading.

Then maybe that dude on sherdog was onto something. He says there are 3 nerves that meet at one point behind the jaw " hypoglossal, vagus and glossopharyngeal nerves all come together at the mandibular angle which is the pressure point". Does seem like the science of it is the vagus nerve though. Have to keep that in mind for the next bar brawl :boxing:

I always thought we could throw out a hit to the temple as "the button" because that seems to be something different. I guess it could be a "button" of sorts, but it isn't the same thing. I think the spot that throws me off is the point of the chin, and maybe that is the shock of a brain being jolted from a good shot strainght ahead

Not sure how I nailed this card....but I did. Markes (which I bought out of above) and a strange Houston/Magny/Siler parlay (no idea why I did that, probably because I always get burned by Siler and I read Houston has some pop) were the only losses. Now I'll give it all back Saturday.

Nice. i was on Siler, Chiesa, Davis, and Romero mostly. Had a little on Roop and Larkan, so not too bad. Wasn't sure on a few like the Masvidal fight and Krause-Green fight. Real glad i skipped that Krause fight seeing how weird it ended.

The Brazilian cards usually aren't as good to me, so not sure what to make of Saturday's card. Plus these Brazilian cards get guys who i know less and less about so they are a little more winging it and following various things i read. i'm not sure of the card lineup, but i know there are some good fights on it. Looking forward to seeing Thatch again, and i think i will back him, even though Thiago is always game. Have to look closer at the card, but will probably have action on a few of the fights, maybe Stephens and Crushank

Nice fight between AKhedov and Perpetuo. Akhedov was rocked and staggering backwards when he hit Perpetuo with the knockdown shot to finish him.

Did Jeremy Stephens just say he hailed from the country of Iowa?
Yes.

Going to the Anniversary show in Vegas this Saturday. I think I will put some $$$ on Hendricks.
I like Hendricks this fight too, but my main concern is how he looked a few fights ago against Koscheck. Boring close fight and got outwrestled in the 3rd pretty easily. He can't be that lethargic against GSP.

Everyone says this about GSP, but Hendricks has to keep the fight off the ground. Easier said than done, I know.
