I can't remember feeling as bad for a fighter in a fight like that in quite awhile. Polish Power made the champion look like a joke. Wouldn't be surprised if the other gal just retired after that beating. That could have gotten a lot a lot worse than it did.

You bring up an interesting point in that...when you play in an individual sport like this and you are just absolutely out-classed by an opponent...what do you do? You have built your entire life around your work and it appears that Carla simply is out of her league.

I mean...obviously she will probably work on improving her stand up...but man...that was brutal. I can't remember the last time I saw the "champ" get made to look like a chump like that.

Maybe Carla can binge on cookies and be the women's flyweight champ.

 
I usually root for finishes, but those were some of the best decision fights I've seen. Really solid card all the way around. I thought Dos Anjos would have a chance, but no way did I think he would dominate like he did. He's a beast. That division is so freaking awesome.

 
I haven't seen Gadelha fight but I can't see any other woman that was in that TUF that will even posse a challenge for Jedzejczyk.

By the sound of her post-fight press conference, it's gonna be awhile before Esparza is back. She was scared ####less out there. A joke IMO she was even champ.

I saw Jędrzejczyk fight in December when UFC was here and actually thought she lost that fight (she won by split dec)

 
One thing that no one has commented on... In the main event, Pettis admits to his corner that he can't see out of his right eye and they didn't seem concerned at all. "Alright kid, just get back out there and get pounded some more, you might win".

They reference the recent issue Rufus' gym ran into with the fighter dying in an amateur bout. I'm not sure what I think about it. I guarantee Pettis would have been upset if they threw the towel in. I guess for me it is the issue if putting him out there puts him at risk for further/permanent damage, or if it doesn't. really hard to figure that out, but I would guess that would determine if he should keep fighting.

I didn't see the fight, but that's not good. not being able to see out of one eye is a pretty significant impediment to your defense, and makes it more likely you will sustain further damage. If fighter "A" sees "B" has some bad swelling in his eye, guess where "A" will be targeting? Guess what kind of punches "B" won't see coming?

It's the corners job to look out for the fighter. The decision of whether to continue or not cannot rest in the hands of the fighter, he is not in position to think clearly. That's a place for rational decision making.

The comments defending this on bloodyelbow are pretty terrible..."It's a part of the sport whether you like it or not, and it will continue to be as long as it exists. This is cage fighting. It's brutal. It's ugly. And it's not always going to be what you want it to be."..."it's hard to demonize Roufus for his actions here, when they are entirely representative of the standard practice of MMA and the role of a corner in MMA." This type of attitude is what prevents MMA from growing as a sport.

States do not want to sanction anything perceived as "bloodsport," the UFC and all other organizations need to do as much as they can to promote this sport for what it is - a sport.

Yeah, the fighter is going to be pissed. I would be too. Much like the NFL's new concussion protocol, it's not his call.

Did the ringside doctor not get a chance to look him over?

 
Thought it was ridiculous to begin with to even mention Pettis as top pound-for-pound fighter. Let alone state it like Dana did.

Dude has 1) not cleaned out the division nor 2) the track record yet. And if he doesn't improve that take down defense, I don't think he sees the lightweight title again. The book's out.

Agree completely. If you're only going to read one guy's breakdown, he's the one. I learn something in almost every column of his I read.
