UFC wagering: no longer stuck with the old thread title. The window to change it is here! (3 Viewers)

Phewwwwwwwww, 205 looks RIDICULOUS. Yeah, it's pretty much what UFC 200 should've been (even though I still thought 200 was a great damn card).

Can we get Aldo a fight before the end of the year, though?  <_<

Smart move, in case one of CMG or EA has to withdraw due to injury.
I have watched most of Eddie's career, and honestly I think the guy would still show up for this fight with a broken leg. I can't see an injury that would have him call out of it (knock on wood now that I jinxed him)

injury bug:  Go visit MLB or the NHL until after this card.
That's fine but enough with the Indians pitching staff already.

Retirements are notoriously ephemeral situations in all forms of combat sports, but I won't lie - the Jose Aldo retirement talk got me shook.  He's always been vocal about the UFC's dealings and his career plans, way before it started resonating in English-language media recently, and there's been talk about him retiring young in the past as well. He's never struck me as the sort of dude who'd take one for the team, so...well, I just hope Aldo and the UFC brass can work it out somehow.

Some of the Eddie Alveraz contract details have been released from when he signed with UFC.  Here are two important pieces

  • A tiered share of pay-per-view revenue, starting at "$1 for each ‘buy' between 200,000 and 400,000 buys, $2 per buy between 400,000 and 600,000 buys, and $2.50 per buy over 600,000 buys."
  • A starting salary of a $70,000/$70,000 show/win split, which includes $5,000 raises per win with a cap at $210,000
==========

ufc 202 did over 1.6 million buys on ppv.  If they match that, Eddie can make over $3 million on the ppv cut.

If that's what he wants to do, I don't see UFC begging for him to stay. As great as he's been in the past, he's not a PPV headliner. People aren't coming out in droves and saying "Hey let's order this PPV for Aldo". That's the reality of it. He can't ##### about being bypassed like he's doing here after how many times he's pulled out .....and also losing in the # seconds he did.

I give Dana #### all the time but he/they got this one right in regards to Aldo and Khabib to make this MSG card as high $$ as possible. Great press conference too. Incredible card. Can't remember being as stoked for a card as this one.

My personal favorite moment of the conference. I don't remember it exactly but question was asked "Conor who is the biggest threat at 145?" ....Jeremy Stephens chimes in "Me". Conor responds "Who the #### is that?" :lmao:  Had me rolling.

:lmao:     It's good to have CmG insulting people not named Diaz for a change.
it is funny how everyone wants to get in on the McGreggor wagon, and Conner is able to control that bandwagon. He literally has the ability to make a fighter rich if he wants to, by picking a fight with them. But then Stephens tries to get in on the action and gets shut down quick. I have seen that Stephens went to go after Conner after the conference and he says Conner was hiding in his room, but Stephens missed the boat here and is just making himself look silly. Should know better then to think you can just jump right in on the Conner train, and I hope Edgar makes Stephens pay for overlooking him

and yeah Aldo retiring young is a loss for the sport, but honestly I have always wondered where his head was at or how much he wanted to do it. It looked for as bit like he caught the GSP bug, and just didn't have the love for it like he used to

Poor Stephens :lmao:

Sad ending for Aldo if he does retire. Incredible talent but didn't have the charisma/personality or challengers to make him what he should of been. Wish he would have gone up to LW.

so I am really stoked to see Eddie get some recognition after this fight (and if people haven't checked out his interview with Ariel on mmafighting they should. lot of people love it and like Eddie more after it). But the next 2 months of cards have a lot of good one's (and like Ahrn said, go away injury bugs!).

2 fights that really stand out to me are Jacare vs. Rockhold on fight night 101 and RDA vs. Fergusson (which might be the next card). I am excited to see Jacare after his bit of a lackluster fight last time out, and I think he can light Rockhold up. And I'm really not sure who I think wins between Fergusson and RDA, but I might lean Tony in that one. Both fights should be great

I'm not a betting man, but I see Alvarez smashing Conor.
same here. I used to be pretty good at knowing where lines would move too, but last 2 or 3 years I seem to have lost it. but with this one, I will wait for the Conner love to come in, probably closer to the fight and try to bet it at better odds then. I checked last night and already saw Alvarez -110 and Conner -120 (I think)

Smashing? Not IMO. I think that he can win a decision if he fights smart (ie wrestles), but he has also shown a tendency to get cracked on the feet, and by lesser strikers than McGregor. IMO slight edge Alvarez, but it's pretty close to a toss up.

If he uses the same strategy as the Pettis fight, I can see him completing multiple takedowns and pounding out Conor.

Alverez has a bad habit of throwing wide arching punches when he gets excited...a good striker will keep everything in tight and just shoot straight punches from a defensive posture...i can see CM drilling eddie with a staight left down the pike and ending this fight....and i can see eddie getting on top and raining punches down until the ref steps in...those are my 2 scenerios .

An CM is easily  the funniest fighter in the game today....he owns the stage when hes on it  :lmao:

:lmao: Damn it, Lineker. I got pissed at Rumble for his inability to make weight early in his career, and for consistency's sake, it pisses me off about Lineker too. Fifth time for him, though this is the first one at 135. I still think that 135 is the right weight class for him, at least. If he weren't so damn good and his fights weren't so entertaining, he might've been cut by this point.

Nice technical breakdown of some of the elements of Conor's game here.   This was from about a year ago, but I don't think it was posted in this thread before.
how Slack does not have a better job somewhere of MMA analysis is so frustrating and beyond me. it is like all of the MMA reporting doesn't want actual analysis of fights, Sirius or Fox Sports should have him on for something. A show with him, Dan Hardy and Cruz would be absolute gold

Whoa Josh Samaan clinging to his life, found unresponsive. Whoever he was with was pronounced dead. Was just heading over to read his breakdowns for tonight on BE.

Wow, only caught the last few fights, but damn. Awesome submission win for Frankenstein and crazy upset by Moreno. Smolka was doing a good job working off of his back, but Moreno saw an opening and boom.

Smolka shot up to -550 before that fight. some sad gamblers out there (i did have him in a parlay so only somewhat sad)

Thankfully the UFC doesn't hold these losses to unprofessional fatasses like Oliviera against the fighters. UFC will match Brooks up with a lightweight for his next fight. Stupid fight they put together here.

Congrats (?) on the win.

Man, Dodson took a lot of shots from Linekar. Was impressed by that.

Hate that Oliveira won after being so far over weight and then had the gall to taunt Brooks. So pathetic. He's now one of the few fighters I have no respect for and actually root against.

So anyone else think Dodson took 1, 3, and 5?
It appeared to be a really close fight, and Dodson definitely took 5 and probably 1 as well. The main problem was Lineker helped himself in a close match by being the aggressor and throwing lots of shots that missed.  He attempted 300+ strikes to Dodson's 190.  Sure he only landed 28% of the time, but the judges seem to like that.
