I am behind on watching the prelims, but i am almost at the end of the second round between lentz-Andre and I don't think Lentz has thrown 1 strike yet. I have to think he won't find himself on a telecast anytime soon. I have not seen a guy focus so much on his wrestling in awhile. i can undertand not wanting to trade strikes with Winner, but a couple of shorts in the clinch or a little more action isn't too much to ask

EDIT: And i completely disagree with Rogan. Lentz did not control the action, he could not get a takedown for the first 2 rounds, and wore down Winner enough in the 3rd to give lentz the 3rd. I would score it 29-28 Andre Winner, but i don't think you can say that lentz dominated those first 2 rounds when he was unable to get the takedown on Andre for the most part.

And Rogan's bias trying to sell the fight was frustrating. Yes grappling is a key to a fight, but to say Lentz imposed his gameplan, is simply not accurate. if he took down Winner and had top position for the majority of the round 1 or 2, then okay, i agree. But seeing how Andre landed more stirkes, and prevented Lentz from taking him down, i would have to disagre with the decision. But oh well, we have all seen worse. Just kills one of my bets and a nice parlay i had :football:
 
The UFC chant may be cornier then the USA chants, but i am glad Randy got that done in less than 225 seconds.

Still wish that Dana didn't cut Kimbo as fast as he did and we would have had a chance to see Kimbo-Toney. yes I'm well aware that is a freak show fight, but it would be enjoyable to watch

Anyways, I just don't get how James doesn't get a punch off. It's not like Randy shot at one sec. You know that's the only shot you have...and just standing there lead footed for 5 or 10 sec makes no sense. I guess it just comes down to bad prep more than boxing vs mma....the result was inevitable though.

i do hope they give Toney another fight. I would like to see what a punch from him with those 4 oz. gloves could do. Put him against a Paul Buentello or something

Yeah, i unfortunately think you may be right. Dana mentioned in one of the interviews he did coming up to this PPV that Toney was really getting on his nerves too, and he looked pretty serious when he said that. I am pretty sure Dana doesn't want to deal with Toney for months like this again
 
WOW, Cake Ruediger got clowned. That's as thorough of an asswhupping as you're gonna see this side of Anderson/Forrest. Lauzon usually comes out hot in the first round, but that was crazy.

 
I didn't get around to watching this and it looks like I didn't miss a anything. The whole Boxing vs MMA line was a joke. Did Dana think this would actually prove something that people didn't already know? :P Boxers can't fight successfully in the UFC, just like MMA guys can't fight with any success in a boxing ring. :banned:

I'd like to see that KJ Noons can do if he gets the chance to fight a decent boxer.

I had to look that guy up. Didn't know who he was. Looks like he has boxed professionally, so I don't know if that would qualify as a true MMA guy fighting a boxer. Either way, I'm sure he would get destroyed if he fought a good boxer
 
Jeez, what a horrible night of fights. Lenz winning either of those first two round is what's wrong with MMA judging. Takedowns are SO overrated. Oh well. Penn zombied through for 25 minutes - horrible. Now we have to watch Gray Maynard lay on Edgar for five rounds. Florian couldn't beat me off his back - such a disappointment. Maia and Miranda should have hit the threadmill a little more. At least Lauzon and Diaz looked good.

Big downer after the last two fantastic PPVs. Guess they all can't be great.

Why wouldn't Noons qualify? Marcus Davis boxed professionally, is he not a mixed martial artist?

:goodposting: I was suckered into this PPV by Penn (my favorite fighter). I should be more selective with what I chose to watch. This was definitely a Sopcast show.

My point is that the mma guys, former boxers or not, still wouldn't stand much of a chance against a good boxer in a boxing match. Of course there are always a few exceptions, but, for most mma fighters, they wouldn't stand a chance. That's why I thought the whole "mma vs boxing" in an mma match was lame. That's was a marketing ploy by the UFC, and it worked well. Now, the UFC guys can go on and on about how mma is superior to boxing. blah blah blah. They're two different sports with different rules. Toney never stood a chance and everyone knew it, just like Couture wouldn't stand a chance in a boxing ring. I can appreciate both sports, but I understand how they are different, and I've been a huge mma fan for years. Boxing is a big pile of crap now for a number of reason. I hope UFC doesn't get that way, however, when there are large amounts of money involved, corruption seems to often find its way in some fashion. Dana understands that and has done a fantastic job at keeping it out. The guy is a marketing genius
 
I don't know of any pure MMA guys who think they'd do well in boxing. There are maybe a couple exceptions -- Noons, Maybe Silva, didn't Arlovski have a pro boxing fight? maybe I'm remembering wrong. MMA Fighters know that leaving your sport to compete in another will end poorly 99% of the time. Most MMA fans know this too.

It's the boxing guys (Toney and Floyd Mayweather, and that firehose dooshspray Bob Arum) and some of the boxing fans who have said that MMA fighters would get owned by boxers.

Well when you take a washed up fighter who is out of shape and overweight I think the outcome is pretty much done before they step in the ring. I would like to see a "real" boxer fight a mma fighter, but the money in boxing for the top fighters is just too much.

Glad to see Toney get tapped quickly. That fight looked like Toney came straight from the buffett line into the cage.

 
Just got back from Boston. Here are my quick, unorganized thoughts of the card:

- I have been to many sporting events in my life, and I have never seen so many crowd fights. One was pretty crazy in the floor seats. Luckily, many of them happened during several of the boring fights. The crowd was more interested in the crowd fights then the action in the ring, and rightfully so, IMO.

- I had seats next to many mma fighters, and it was nice to see how assessable they were to fans. Especially the younger fans. Gerald Harris was sitting in front of me, and he was a cool guy. Tried to get us to do the wave. Lots of WEC fighters next to us too. Bart Palaszewski, Scott Jorgenson (who was really cool with the fans), Leonard Garcia were a few I recognized. Mark Munoz and Jorge Rivera were a couple of the other UFC guys.

- Aside from the Nate Diaz-Marcus Davis fight, what a horrible card this turned out to be. Penn looked atrocious, the Maynard-Florian fight was terrible, but the absolute worse one was the Andre Winner- Nick Lentz fight. Wow. Just wow. It seemed like almost every fighter on this card wanted to be somewhere else.

- This sport needs a bad guy, and Nate Diaz realizes he has a great opportunity to be one. Never heard a fighter booed so loud, and he seems to love to play it up. And I really like Diaz as a fighter. Marcus Davis has heart, but it is time to hang them up, IMO. He took a beating. Crowd was pretty ticked at the ref for not realizing Davis was out cold. Pretty scary from my vantage point.

- Whoever handles the sound in the arena should be fired. What a disaster. I couldn't hear one interview, which was too bad. Really wanted to hear what Toney had to say after the fight. Crowd gave him a round of applause when Couture said he respected him, then when they gave the mike to Toney, the crowd would not stop booing. Annoying.

- Edgar is a ball of energy. And I know this sounds weird, but I still did not come away impressed despite him winning every round. Who is going to step up at lightweight? Could Jose Aldo sign with UFC? Just not impressed with the lightweight division.

- Honestly, it looked like Mario Miranda was just happy to be in the octagon. What a disgrace of a fight on his part.

- Shogun was outside the hotel when we got back there around 2:00 am. Taking pictures with people, joking around. Definitely not drunk, just genuinely seemed to be having a good time.
