UFC wagering: no longer stuck with the old thread title. The window to change it is here! (6 Viewers)

Kimbo would have been finished without throwing a single punch by my count. Then Kimbo gets out, full of energy, lands a couple shots and Shamrock flails. LOL

Wife walks into room before it starts. "This is the main fight right? I'd like to at least watch that one"

"Yup"

...

"Wtf?? We paid $50 for that?"

"Haha, no it was free, on Spike"

...."well you still got ripped off"

:lmao:

Glad I turned the TV on right on time to see Pitbull's KO win (like, 10 seconds before the KO), but sad that I didn't switch off and actually saw Ken/Kimbo. I'm all for PRIDE-style freak shows now and then, but it was a loooooong wait between fights and that was silly. :lmao:

About TUF - Does anyone think the poor showing by ATT will seriously damage their reputation? I mean...I haven't seen anything from any of their fighters that really suggests to me that they are training elite UFC talent. I like Hayder...but he has a very low ceiling and one dimensional game in my opinion.
Big win for Kimbo last night should help their brand.

He also says the way Kimbo stopped Shamrock was "real as f---"
to be clear -- yes. I never meant to suggest otherwise. Kimbo clocked the snot out of KS with two of those punches. But the whole lockup-takedown-mount-choke-escape thing was a work.
There`s a reason Shamrocked doesn't fight anymore...well besides friday night...hes done ...cant do what he used to be able to do....why is that surprising? strange that people dont grasp that

I can see it happening and it will draw viewers

Royce/Shamrock did not make a lot of money with the UFC. I'll even go as far as to say these fights will most likely will be the most lucrative of their careers. I havent seen 138 earnings released but we do know Stephan Bonnar got 100k to show vs. Tito. I'd expect something around there.

Ken's disclosed career MMA earnings = 500k. I'm sure he made more than that in 1 year in WWE.

--------------------------

Unrelated but I absolutely HATE the 1 night tournaments. These guys shouldn't be forced to fight twice in 1 night. Not even sure how Bellator can get away with it in 2015.

Coker has always seemed to be a smart guy to me. maybe they put it out there to judge interest in it. but i think the novelty of these fights won't last forever

I agree they won't be able to get away with it if they do many of them in a short period of time. Particularly if they come off as fake looking as Kimbo/Shamrock.

Their would be an outrage with Shamrock/Kimbo was headlining a PPV card. As is, people are like whatever, it was free.

A free train wreck is still more entertaining than 99% of Friday night TV.

Oh, and Saturday's UFC show was pretty meh, despite plenty of finishes. Only fight worth booking in the women's strawweight division is Jedrzejczyk against the winner of Gadelha/Aguilar, which is a siiiiiiiiiick matchup.

yeah, that has to be the next match. I know JJ says she wants some time off because she has fought a few fights in a short amount of time and is looking at the end of the year like November/December. The winner of that fight has to be the #1 contender for the belt and yeah both would be a fight they can promote well. I have to think that is JJ's last fight on Fight Pass, or at least i hope so

ETA: looking at the women's strawweight division, it is kind of deep. came kind of quick, but JJ, Gadelha, Aquilar, Karate Hottie is a pretty sweet top 4, and the next tier has some holes but is pretty legit. they built that class quicker than they built the 135's

I'm going from memory here but I thought Royce got a pretty sweet payday for his "comeback" against Matt Hughes. $500K is the number that's bouncing around in my head.

Found this online from UFC 160. His payday was sick compared to everyone else on card.

lot of stuff out there about if that fight was fixed. best argument i heard was on MMAHour with a guy from Fight Opinion who basically asked why would they fix that fight. Sold me cause i am sure Coker would not suggest it and risk Bellator with something as silly as that since no one really gains by fixing the fight. i mean it isn't like they are going to push Slice now after that.

haven't read this yet, but Jimmy Smith is a guy i think is pretty smart and knows his stuff pretty well:
