hmm, speculation that McGreggor had a torn MCL for the fight. would explain his poor guard work and no takedown defense
during the fight or in training for the fight? if it was before the fight then that makes Aldo look even worse than before ...wow
He made a comment postfight to the effect that he had more serious injuries coming into this fight than what Aldo pulled out for.
would make a ton of sense for why he would do TUF too instead of plan for an Aldo fight near the end of the year which were the rumors after Aldo pulled out
I have been waiting to see where this story line goes since the post fight presser when he brought it up. But, it hasn't really gained that much traction and I am wondering if it will ever come out and be substantiated that there was an issue with him physically.
It would definitely explain what I felt was a pretty lackluster ground game and TTD. I was expecting better from him. However, he was throwing kicks like it was nobody's business. So, I am curious to know how the injury might have impacted him in one aspect of the game (ground) but not while kicking and pivoting like a ballerina half the time.
I haven't rewatched the fight...but if anybody has have they noticed anything peculiar? Any wincing or grimacing? And based on the Mayweather fight...would there be any public records or info about Conor getting a cortisone shot or some other treatment before the fight?
Assuming that the injury is true...it wouldn't necessarily surprise me. I sincerely believe that Conor believes this is his destiny and that nothing will stop it. And I also believes that he believes his countrymen will carry him through battle as well. In the pre and post fight interviews, McGregor mentioned how important his Irish fans are and he shows that he is keenly aware of their financial and personal sacrifices to travel to his fights.
I think it was two or three fights back that he said that he torn a ligament in his thumb or hurt his thumb really bad about six weeks out from the fight and thought about pulling out but decided against it because of the things I mentioned above (destiny/letting his peeps down, etc)
Personally, if he or the UFC aren't going to elaborate or publicly detail what he is talking about, I would rather not hear anymore about it. But if true...I really wish they would give the fans more info.
I suspect that if it is true...it will definitely come up in the build up for the next fight with Aldo. How would it not?
