I can't believe they gave that fight to Bisping.  Not only did he get f'd up, but he had 2 low blows.  Everything he landed lacked power.  Maybe they decided to give him points for throwing a bunch of weak punches, and being the aggressor?  The judges didn't throw Nate Diaz any points for being the aggressor.

 
By most scorecards, Bisping took the last three rounds. One could argue a 10-8 Henderson 1st round, but even that wouldn't give him the title.

 
How many guys would be favored over Bisping if they got the title shot next? 6? More?

Still thought it was dumb to give Hendo the shot and hold up the division, but whatever it was a really good fight.

 
Some day I wish they would spend 15 minutes and really explain the scoring from the judges perspective.

The Bisping Hendo fight was the classic "person doing significantly more activity vs person doing significantly more damage"

I don't really understand what the exact rules are.  I assume the judges must all follow certain guidelines but sometimes the scoring is just so different judge to judge it makes me wonder what the criteria is.

I have heard Dana in the past say a 10-8 round should almost never be given and yet he told Hendo clearly after the fight that round 1 should have been 10-8 (it seemed marginal to me either way so I was confused why Dana who thinks a 10-8 should be almost an entire round of domination would consider that a 10-8).

it's weird because most of the time these kinds of fights are dumb, but this one really did seem to make a lot of sense. Bisping actually argues it quite well, in the fact that 3 of the 4 top guys are coming off losses and the other has been suspended for awhile. Henderson was set to retire already, so let them get this last fight in for him and let him go off in the sunset. the way he won his last fight he certainly deserved something. It was unconventional, but i think it just seemed to work because of a few elements that all happened to happen at once. 

where it would have bit them in the ### is if Bisping (or Hendo if he won) had got hurt and was out for the next 6-8 months. i think Bisping avoids that and it matches up well with the fights next month and whoever puts on the best performance would seem to have a great argument for the next shot at the title. 

ETA:  for me, it wasn't so much that Hendo deserved it, it was more about which of the top 4 guys was the one who should get the shot. I know they were all doing the PR run to get it, but there wasn't a stand-out among the top 4. Yoel Romero was the only one who was coming off the win, but hard to give a guy a title shot after coming off suspension. Jacare lost to Yoel (though i thought Jacare should have got the decision), so you can't give it to him. Weidman and Rockhold both just got KO'd, so really neither of the top 4 had a great argument for being the first one to get the title shot. these next fights with Weidman-Romero and Jacare-Rockhold will at least provide clarity by eliminating 2 of those guys and hopefully one of the winners has an impressive win

i forget what meeting happened a few months ago, but whatever it was they came up with a better distinction for scoring a fight. I honestly forget most of it, but it seemed like most of the commissions got together and sorted out some things in MMA. i don't think it will truly solve the issues, but it seemed like a step in the right direction

Why do you think they scored higher for Bisping?  Was it the number of overall punches landed, thrown, being the aggressor?  I'm confused by the UFC scoring.

Kind of surprising to me, since I don't really see him going anywhere else. If he does come back, it'll be for legacy-type fights, and those are only really available in the UFC. He doesn't need the money, and it's not like adding the Bellator or WSOF WW belt does anything for him in terms of his overall career.

I've thought that he was probably done for good since he first retired; he's set for life and a smart guy who never seemed like the guy to hang around too long and either get hurt or become just a name on younger dudes resumes.

 
The new ownership is not wasting anytime.  They have started laying off UFC workers in multiple countries as they look to be changing the focus of the company from international to much more domestic based.

Mousasi - Uriah Hall 2 now scheduled to scheduled to main event Fight Night Belfast as Gunnar Nelson pulled out. I get Mousasi wanting revenge, but he should be fighting the elite in that division. Really makes no sense for him to fight washed up Belfort (who was ranked #5 then I believe) to fighting Uriah Hall. Too bad Mousasi is as reserved as he is. I find him to be one of the funniest guys in MMA when he does talk. He sells himself short on a ton on the business end. Makes no business sense to fight Hall. Nothing to gain. Everything to lose.

i'm guessing some of these are mutual releases. I have heard a lot about how Big Foot can make a ton in Rizin, and can fight there with less drug testing, etc. I think he knew he wasn't going to the top anymore in the UFC, so why not let him go fight and have some success overseas, as long as it doesn't hurt the UFC (i.e. go to Bellator)

maybe. the top 4 are busy fighting each other, so if he beats Uriah this time i think he is a shoe in to fight with those guys. Not sure what order or who he would face, but he might as well keep busy while the rest of who he would fight is tied up for the next month or 2

 
Faber retiring after his next fight in December. It's time. Only fight I'd even have remotely liked to see with him left was vs. Dillashaw.

So we got MMA going on!

Shame that Bellator lost two of its fights on the eve of the show, 'cause it would've actually been a nice little card. Main card was still fun with all the finishes, though the pacing was awful as they struggled to make up for the lost fights. Davis/McGeary was, well, a five-round Phil Davis wrestling special. Wish he was more of a finisher, 'cause he's a damn talented fighter.

So Charles Oliveira figured he was fighting at 155lb tonight or what?  :ph34r:  Hyped for RDA/Ferguson, Alexa grasso's UFC debut, Lamas/Oliveira (even with the weight issues) and whoa, Sanchez welcoming Held into the UFC is a pretty cool fight thrown in there. Also, hope Alex Nicholson gets KTFO in the prelims.

Fell asleep some time between the Tito-Chael "face-off" and the Davis/McGeary fight. Sad I missed the last one because there's nothing I love more than watching one man lay on top of another for 25 minutes.
