Watched the co main and main event last night. Tough way to go out for Smith, but Mingyang looked good and those elbows were nasty. Garry looked pretty good too against a tough opponent in Prates. It'll be interesting to see where he goes from here.

If Prates had another minute it might have been a different story, but Garry fought a smart fight.
I wanted better for Smith, but I like watching him fight over the years. He's smart and articulate, so he should have a good career in the both, or as an analyst.

Those were the two fights I also caught. Brutal for Smith, I thought the ref let it go a lot longer than it needed to be, even with it being his retirement fight. Mingyang looked lethal, and you gotta love the smack talk he did during the interview. Bravo.
Ian also looked good for the first four rounds, but I thought he was either going to get submitted or a ref stoppage. Too bad Prates had nothing left in his tank those final 30 seconds to finish him.
I really don't like all the buddy smiles, jokes, and hugging bromance between every round beginning and end. Maybe the opening bell I get it, but this is happening way too much these days.
Not a Nikal fan at all and glad to see him exposed again. Great wrestler, bad MMA fighter. Maybe someday he'll earn his spot, but he's not anywhere near ready to fight ranked opponents.
Sandhagen looked awesome and he definitely earned himself a title shot. I can't help but think how awesome him vs O'Malley would be stylistically, but Merab isn't getting beat by either.
What the hell are they doing with heavyweight? Aspinall really not getting a fight while Jones attempts to recover from his stubbed lady parts? Love mma, but the ufc as a professional sport is so embarrassing with this kind of stuff. Fight or vacate already.
I don't think Khamzat has the gas tank to go 5 with DDP and also don't think he can put him away before the championship rounds. I've also bet against DDP to many times and he always finds a way. I don't understand how that ugly striking of his works, but it always does. Really looking forward to the fight either way.
Anybody know what is up with Jon Jones? I keep seeing he's retired, but haven't heard anything official. Is he finally done holding Aspinall and the HW division hostage? White appears pretty content to just let him, so retirement seems the only way forward and i hope he really is gone. I loved watching him fight over the years, but he's a world class d bag and it's time to go.

Just yesterday he released some news. While training in front of some fans he got asked about Tom Aspinwall
His response was a lot has happened behind the scenes but that he is not allowed to speak about it before the company announces it.
The way he said it, most people took it to mean the fight is on and just waiting for UFC to do a big press conference. Although with Jones, who knows...

Interesting, thanks for the link. Until the cage is locked it's hard to trust what he says, but Aspinall made a similar cryptic comment too. If they're playing us and this has been in the works all along it is a fight i want to see. If it's more Jones trolling it's past time to vacate and get on with the division.
Not super excited for this weekends card, but I'm a fan of both Merab and O'Malley so looking forward to that fight. O'Malley is dangerous, but i can't see Merab losing. There's always the potential for O'Malley to land a big shot, but Merab should be able to do what he does and overwhelm and grind him down.
Got a gut feeling about O'Malley. Over the course of fight week his attitude and approach to the fight impressed me. I like that he put on some muscle aswell. Love Merab and I'm sure he'll end up pulling it off, but I'll predict a picture perfect right hand in round 4 does the job for O'Malley.
Ariel said today he is expecting the UFC to announce soon that the Jones- Aspinwall fight is completely off. Aspinwall also said today he is done waiting and will move on with his career.

This is good news. Jones has no intentions of fighting, it's McGregor/Chandler all over. Time to take the belt and let Aspinall win it outright and put this embarrassment in the rear view mirror.
Thanks for alerting me to the early start. I've missed a couple because of that.
I'm gonna pimp the One Championships again. Every Friday morning they stream a card live on YouTube. I wait for it to finish so I can stream it skipping commercials and fluff between fights. Meh, I watch some of it to learn about the fighters, but they're 4 hour cards that I finish in about 2. The last 4 cards have been better than any UFC card of the last couple years. Just incredible battles fight after fight. Crazy knockouts. Several times the dude getting the knockout has been knocked down and made the comeback. Fun stuff.
The Friday Fights are not the best fighters in the One organization. It's the proving ground to get into the big show which streams on Amazon Prime. So I've become familiar with this world and it entertains me way more than boxing or UFC. Hah. Just watched the first fight for today. MMA. Dude gets in trouble. In danger of being submitted. Gets out of it, puts the other guy in a funky triangle and gets the arm bar. Great action. One is mostly Muay Thai. They mix in MMA and kickboxing early on the cards, but Muay Thai is the featured sport. It's become by far my favorite combat sport. Three 3 minute rounds of non-stop action. Unlike a 12 round boxing match, these guys don't pace themselves. It's 9 minutes of trying to kill each other. It's awesome. The champions across weight classes are incredible. So the Amazon streams are really fun. It would be cool to get some of you onboard.
Anyway. Today's Card. Watching it now. The last four have been "absolute madness" to quote the kinda cheesy announcer.
I haven't finished today's One card yet. Pausing for long breaks here and there. It isn't nearly as wild as the past four weeks. You can find those on YouTube too, but...
What. A. War. Hard to get into boxing matches after seeing countless numbers of these. MMA is better than boxing for raw excitement but it pales overall to Muay Thai.
