Ultimate Survivor - Leg 1 - League 11 (1 Viewer)

My focus (slot 1.02):

a) No byes

b) Look to quality of opponents for my picks over their first five weeks

That led to some unconventional sequencing, and we'll see if it works. If I survive the first three weeks, I've got full firepower and some nice NFL matchups for weeks 4 and 5.

QB

7.02 Vince Young, TEN

11.02 Alex Smith, SF

12.11 Rex Grossman, CHI

I really like the scheduling for Young and Smith, though they're clearly not the top QBs in the league. I really expect to see the effects of my strategy (good or bad) here. Needed to protect with a third QB, and Rex can be hit or miss, but pickings were slim.

RB

1.02 Adrian Peterson, MIN

2.11 Ernest Graham, TB

4.11 Selvyn Young, DEN

18.11 Michael Pittman, DEN

The early RB run caused me to stay on this early, costing me shots at some WRs. But I again like the scheduling for Graham and Young. Denver can shuffle a lot, so protected with Pittman.

WR

3.02 Santonio Holmes, PIT

5.02 Santana Moss, WAS

13.02 Lance Moore, NOS

14.11 Justin Gage, TEN

21.02 James Hardy, BUF

I had Holmes and Moss as early targets, then just filled in with players from teams I hope to be passing a lot in these weeks. Solid RBs and a good group of TEs helps balance the flex scoring.

TE

6.11 Alge Crumpler, TEN

8.11 Heath Miller, PIT

15.02 Alex Smith, TB

Some quality players, though doubling up with Pitt and Tenn players. Cornered the market on Alex Smiths.

D

9.02 Dallas

10.11 Chicago

19.02 KC

BnB made the first D pick in front of me, so I followed that, then figured rounds 11 and 12 would see a lot more (which did occur), so grabbed Chicago before the full run of top teams. Added KC to strengthen this slot, and I like their schedule early on.

K

6.11 Rian Lindall, BUF

17.02 Ryan Longwell, MIN

20.11 Jason Elam, ATL

22.11 Martin Gramatica, NOS

K's are always a crapshoot. For me, again, it was about opponents. Lindall finishes this segment at STL and ARI; Longwell finishes at TEN and NOS. The other two just add depth and more high point chances ...couldn't resist the fourth K since he was available.

Garcia, Jeff TBB QB 12.02

Rivers, Philip SDC QB 7.11

Ryan, Matt ATL QB ® 20.02

Not thrilled with this group, but it'll do. With only 1 starter, 4 pt TDs, and 3 flex positions in best ball, IMO, the QB position is seriously de-emphasized, so I was willing to wait until pick 83 to grab a QB.

Bush, Reggie NOS RB 3.11

Grant, Ryan GBP RB 2.02

Jacobs, Brandon NYG RB 4.02

Jones, Felix DAL RB ® 10.02

Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB 1.11

Torain, Ryan DEN RB ® 14.02

This group, I am thrilled with. In a non-PPR with the possibility of 4 RBs starting in any given week, the TD-scoring backs were going to go fast and furious, so I took backs with my first 4 picks. Jones-Drew, Grant, and Jacobs are going to score 10+ TDs and Bush gives me the x factor of a huge game any given week, which is big in Survivor. Felix Jones and Torain are upside guys with the potential to be enormous in the event that Torain wins the starting job and/or Barber/Selvin Young suffer an injury. I feel like my backfield is as good or better than anyone's, which is the only position I can say that about.

Burress, Plaxico NYG WR 6.02

Galloway, Joey TBB WR - 5.11

Johnson, Calvin DET WR - 8.02

Nelson, Jordy GBP WR ® 22.02

Sweed, Limas PIT WR ® 16.02

Williams, Demetrius BAL WR 19.11

Williams, Reggie JAC WR 11.11

Unfortunately, picking at the back end and waiting until round 5 for a receiver, I was constantly left with either scraps or WRs with a week 4 bye. Wit the depth I have at RB, though, I'm hoping that my WRs won't count all that often unless they have big weeks, so I went for guys with big-play ability that can post huge weeks from time to time. Burress, I felt, was tremendous value at 6.2, both Galloway and Calvin Johnson have upside potential, and Sweed, D. Williams, and R. Williams will all likely start and may even be their teams primary red zone threats at WR. Jordy Nelson in round 22 was a flyer.

Clark, Dallas IND TE 9.11

Pope, Leonard ARI TE 21.11

I LOVE Dallas Clark this year and had to take him despite the week 4 bye, I still had him as a top 6 TE overall. Pope hopefully will catch a TD pass week 4, but I doubt many 2nd TEs will count for people in this league unless you have 2 of the top 6 or 7 guys. I wasn't willing to make that early investment without PPR.

Rackers, Neil ARI PK 17.11

Reed, Jeff PIT PK 18.02

I was going to take more than two kickers, but then I was lucky enough to get two of my top 6 guys (based on weeks 1-5 scoring) in rounds 17 and 18, so that'll do it for me - neither has a bye. I expect to get 7-8 points a week at a minimum out of this duo.

Broncos, Denver DEN Def 15.11

Ravens, Baltimore BAL Def 13.11

Likewise, I considered 3 DEF, but was able to grab two DEF without early byes, both of which I had ranked in my top 8 defenses on weeks 1-5 scoring, so I grabbed some extra WR help instead.
Overall, I like this draft from the #11 spot. I have very few bye problems considering the offenses on a bye week 4, and good depth at several positions. With the exception of the dreaded week 4, where I'll be without Burress, Calvin Johnson, Jacobs, and Dallas Clark, I have no issues at all, and with only 1 team eliminated week 4 and others having worse bye issues than myself, I think I'll get by if I make it that far. In other weeks, a scoring lineup of Rivers, Jones-Drew, Burress, and Dallas Clark with 3 flex coming from Ryan Grant, Reggie Bush, Brandon Jacobs, Calvin Johnson, and Joey Galloway will keep me in the mix. I think RBs will rule the roost in this format, as evidenced by the fact that 30 were plucked in the first 36 picks, so I feel like I was ahead of the curve by grabbing 4 in the first 4 rounds. While others were picking through scraps later, I was able to get good value at WR, QB, and TE in rounds 5-9.
This team should make it easily if you get by week 4. Those bye week players you got, you got dirt cheap.

Thanks, man. Yeah, the two Giants (Jacobs at pick 38 and especially Burress at pick 62) I thought were worhtwhile at those junctures. I was pretty psyched to get Calvin Johnson at pick 86 too.

I took some risks with my team. I simply could not pass on the bye-week value, and it may come back to haunt me.

Anderson, Derek CLE QB - 5 9.08

Edwards, Trent BUF QB - 6 14.05

The week I need Edwards, he is at Arizona. I am fine starting Anderson in weeks 1-4 with confidence.

Lynch, Marshawn BUF RB - 6 1.08

Lewis, Jamal CLE RB - 5 3.08

Forte, Matt CHI RB ® - 8 5.08

Thomas, Pierre NOS RB - 9 11.08

Booker, Lorenzo PHI RB - 7 20.05

Jackson, Fred BUF RB - 6 22.05

Went with Lynch over Addai, as I started noticing the bye week players falling early. Figured I would get a "steal" with my RB2 due to a bye week, so I didn't want to have to worry about two guys. With three flex, I have some flexibility. Pierre and Booker both will need an injury in front of them to see my lineup, but I liked where I got them, as both Deuce/Westbrook could easily miss time. Couldn't pass on Forte in the 5th.

Moss, Randy NEP WR - 4 2.05

Bowe, Dwayne KCC WR - 6 4.05

Evans, Lee BUF WR - 6 6.05

Welker, Wes NEP WR - 4 7.08

Cotchery, Jerricho NYJ WR - 5 8.05

Burleson, Nate SEA WR - 4 12.05

Walter, Kevin HOU WR - 8 18.05

Robinson, Laurent ATL WR - 7 19.08

Thomas, Devin WAS WR ® - 10 21.08

I could a lot of crap with my WR selections, mostly due to the bye-week "problem." I figured if I took a few of the guys on week 4 bye, and a few on week 5 bye, then I would have a solid lineup both weeks. I couldn't believe where I was getting these guys.

Lee, Donald GBP TE - 8 10.05

Miller, Zach OAK TE - 5 13.08

Easily my weakest spot. Most weeks, I will probably start Z. Miller, as Russell leaned on him heavily in the only game he started, but I went D. Lee first as he was the highest scorer who did not have a bye-week, and I figured Miller would fall for this very reason.

Crosby, Mason GBP PK - 8 17.08

Gostkowski, Stephen NEP PK - 4 16.05

Had I known I could have gotten Crosby the next round, I would have chosen someone else over Gostkowski, but as-is, Gostkowski is a plug for at least 4 XPs, and Crosby gets the start week 5.

Buccaneers, Tampa Bay TBB Def - 10 15.08

Meow.

Projected lineups:

Week 1 Starters: Anderson - Lynch / Lewis - R. Moss / Welker / Bowe / Cotchery - Gostkowski - TB

Week 2 Starters: Anderson - Lynch / Lewis - R. Moss / Welker / Bowe / Cotchery - Gostkowski - TB

Week 3 Starters: Anderson - Lynch / Lewis - R. Moss / Welker / Bowe / Cotchery - Gostkowski - TB

Week 4 Starters: Anderson - Lynch / Lewis / Forte - Bowe / Cotchery / Evans - Gostkowski - TB

Week 5 Starters: Edwards - Lynch / Forte - R. Moss / Welker / Bowe / Evans - Crosby - TB

I'm more worried about the volatile week 1 where nobodies play well to start the season (and 2 teams get eliminated) than I am of the bye weeks 4 and 5.

I wondered how far Ronnie and Marshall would fall, and then went 5.4 and 4.3 respectively. I think that is far too early for Marshall, and could prove to be too early for Brown.

the bye week players threw an interesting wrench in the draft. it was hard to know when to snag one and if it was better to have a blend of week 4/5 player.Plax and Clavin were on my radar just a matter of when to pull the trigger.

If I am fortunate enough to survive, I cant wait to see how the draft goes with the player that already had byes going and the rest of the NFL still to have a bye

I think JPeso has the right idea, looking at projected weekly starting lineups, and making sure you're solid there. That's kind of how I looked at it. If you don't make it to week 4 and week 5, then it's kind of pointless to have avoided those players.

QB:

Brady (4)

Bulger (5)

Croyle

Had to take Brady, even with week 4 bye. Then getting him covered later with Bulger, with week 5 bye, meant for first three weeks I'm pretty solid. It did leave them as lone QBs for 4 and 5 though so I picked up Croyle late just to have another potential option, although I'll be shocked if he ever ends scoring for me (probably not a good sign if he does).

RB:

Gore

R. Brown (4)

Watson

L. Washington (5)

M. Bush (5)

Duckett

I figure between Gore and Brown, I'll have 2 scorers from this group, except in week 4. That's where my other depth comes in. I'm super high on Washington, and Duckett and Bush have potential to be TD vultures.

WR:

Chad Johnson

Driver

Engram (4)

V. Jackson

N. Washington

T. Williamson

M. Clayton

Again, pretty happy here. Should get at least 2 scorers from this group each week, too. I started salivating when I saw Calvin Johnson still out there pretty late, but he didn't make it that close to coming back to me. I didn't really like my V. Jackson pick when I took him, but chalk that up to best available without a bye. I'm totally happy to take flyers on Washington (gets long TDs), Williamson (probably starting and supposedly looks good), and Clayton (that late, he has great upside).

TE:

Gates

Winslow (5)

I really think this was the key to everything for me. In the first four weeks, I will likely have 2 TEs that score. In week 5, if I make it that far, I think I have enough depth at the other positions to pick up missing Winslow's slack. I'm really pumped about these two here.

K:

Vinatieri (4)

Graham

Two great kickers here. Sure, one has a bye in week 4, but I'll just go with Graham that week if I make it that 4.

D:

Steelers

Jets (5)

My one regret is I wish I would have taken 3 Ds. Maybe instead of Duckett I could have grabbed another D. Steelers should be solid and Jets have good return game, though. If I make it to week 5, I could be exposed to a big point gap.

Projected Scorers:

Week 1 QB: T. Brady; RB: F. Gore, R. Brown; WR: C. Johnson, D. Driver; TE: A Gates, K Winslow; D: Steelers, K: Vinatieri

Week 2 QB: T. Brady; RB: F. Gore, R. Brown; WR: C. Johnson, D. Driver; TE: A Gates, K Winslow; D: Steelers, K: Vinatieri

Week 3 QB: T. Brady; RB: F. Gore, R. Brown; WR: C. Johnson, D. Driver; TE: A Gates, K Winslow; D: Steelers, K: Vinatieri

Week 4 QB: M. Bulger; RB: F. Gore, L. Washington; WR: C. Johnson, D. Driver; TE: A Gates, K Winslow; D: Steelers, K: Vinatieri

Week 3 QB: T. Brady; RB: F. Gore, R. Brown; WR: C. Johnson, D. Driver, B. Engram; TE: A Gates; D: Steelers, K: Vinatieri

Those that advance will redraft new line-ups (right?), so I don't believe this will be an issue.
not what I meant, maybe I wasnt clear, but the week 4/5 bye players will be at a premium and the rest of the NFL still has to have their bye week

Ah, yes. There will be a lot of shifting heading into the second stage. You and I and two others will have to let the rest know how different that draft is. :goodposting:

my squad:

QB - Big Ben, Cutler -

These two guys will score fine for me and I think Im strong here. Both buys will play every week, no bye week issues.

RB - Steven Jackson,Kevin Smith,Tatum Bell,Ahman Green, Chris Brown, Brandon Jackson

Here is the weakness of my squad, I wanted MB3 at pick #7 badly but with the week 4 and week5 bye thing coming into play Sjax and Addai fell like a rock. I took Sjax. I know he's holding out, but he is under contract and has to report by August 8th to gain credit for the season for F/A. No biggie IMO and great value at 1.07 even with week 5 off. I have to get to week 5 for it to really impact the squad.

I corner the market on Lions RB's and the top 2 in Houston as well. The Lions players have week 4 off. Between these 4 players I should get decent flex production for at least 1 spot.

Brandon Jackson could be a steal, but he's my RB#6.

WR - Steve Smith, Chris Chambers, Anthony Gonzales Jr, Darrell Jackson, Drew Bennett,Justin McCariens, Deion Branch, Arnaz battle

Steve Smith is a hoss and will produce nicely at WR1. Chambers is the #1 WR option in SD and with Gates on the mend early should put up nice numbers especially early. Agonzo was an upside pick with a week4 bye. Then I just started grabbing starters at tremendous value. Darrell Jackson could be WR1 - I think Marshall gets a few game off for sure. Drew Bennett? starter, McCariens - the only WR worth having in Tenn. Branch as a just in case he plays. Battle in round 22.

TE - Jason Witten, LJ Smith

Witten is a stud LJ smith provides some depth and red zone target

K - Robbie Gould, Josh Brown

Def - Philly,NYG

The K and D are solid and I have one off week4 and one off week 5.

Week4 will be huge in this thing, scores will be low.

good draft, I would like to see what the staffers and BnB and Rads think of my team

will add detail in the am, ready for bed
my thoughts
I liked this team a lot more before Smith bit the dust for a couple. Still think you're strong enough to survive that and see what weeks 4 and 5 hold for you.

A suspension like that could be a death blow. But we'll see. Marshall being gone for the same 2 games might mean higher production for Djax in the first two.

With Grossman demoted and Alex Smith facing the same possibility in SF, I could be totally Vince Young-dependent at QB (though I like his early match-ups). But nothing new at the skill positions, which is good, and I don't worry at all about D (with three) or K (with four). Also - no byes.

I like my team a lot less now then I did when I did drafted. Still hoping Brady can carry me through along with the TE tandem of Winslow/Gates. I think taking Ronnie Brown in the 5th could come back to haunt me.

Tri-man is toast. I think we lose two this week so the second goner is up in the air.

I have Rice, McFadden, and James Jones left to fill two spots that currently have 4 points each on the board.

boy I got one ugly looking squad in this thing.

I look ok this week even with all the Steve Smith turmoil. Throw in C.Brow and T.Bell cut.

Cutler,Brandon Jackson and Darrell Jackson left to roll tonite.

Looks like elimination #2 comes down to the Denver game.

Ghost has TE Sheffler (needs to exceed 2.9 pts)

Riff has PK Prater (needs to exceed 4 pts)

My squad isn't long for elimination. My RBs took a beating after the draft.

WElp - I'm gone.

I lost all 3 games in my fantasy leagues and got eliminated from my survivor pool in week 1 (damn you indy) - oh and I'm a Patriots fan

Wow I underestimated the value of RBs in this format. Brown/J Jones/Meachum all taking donuts at WR is not helping matters.

Tri-man, congrats on the comeback. Good to keep you around.

While I was carried by Willie Parker's big day, my later round fliers saved me: Pennington, Fargas and Dunn were critical for me in the flex roles since my high picks (Addai, Palmer in particular) laid an egg.

Ghost of Common had a good team. That was a surprise in my book.
Agreed. GofC had 3 K's and 4 D's, but that's where the points were low. Hard to believe Colston and Edwards were so weak.I caught a break, but it tied to the draft strategy, targeting the Denver running game in these five weeks, but backing up Selvyn Young with Pittman due to the propensity for a Denver RBBC. Now we'll see how I do with NO QBs - V Young, A Smith, and R Grossman. ;)

I hope you last until my Wayne/Manning bye week.

My downfall was my RBs. McGahee didn't play, Rudi got cut, MoMo out 4-6 weeks.

If McGahee played and got 40 yards, I would have advanced.

Pretty sad outing.

Wow, pretty amazing how injuries, etc. have taken their toll already. Will be interesting to see if Tri-Man can survive with no qbs (I am down to 1 and he has a bye in week 5)!

Schocked at how low Colston and Edwards scored. I think this really shows that getting value at *every* pick is so important in this format.

Players that are eliminated that I am glad I don't have to worry about any more in this and I can root for on my other teams:

Favre

Westbrook

Colston

Braylon

Romo

Chris Johnson

If I'm looking at the live scoring right, I think that Terrell Owens needs more than 13.2 points for Workhorse to catch me.

I'm 8.5 ahead. Owens would also need to replace Stokley's 4.7. So that means 13.2 points would tie us and 13.3 would keep Workhorse alive. Less than 13.2 points for TO and I barely survive for the second week in a row.

Does that seem right?

What are the odds of Buffalo, SD, and Minny D all scoring exactly 9 points? Looks like my LT pick was about the bust of the draft.

ETA: The unexpected Balt TE bye almost did my in.

Three gone after two weeks. Two get booted off the island next week. Time for LT, Housh, and Manning to show up!

ALIVE!

Thanks to T.O.

I can't believe I'm still in this thing even though I've gotten pretty much nothing from Carson Palmer and Addai thusfar.

So Riff-Raff, Ghost, and now Sake Bombers gone.

Big week coming up before the byes kick in. Two more will get booted. Still with no QB, I've gotta hope for good play throughout my line-up and a strong K and D to perform out of my packs. The bye weeks could neutralize some of my no-QB situation.

eta:

ADP questionable ...Devin Hester questionable for my Bears D ...

E Graham facing the Bears D ...couple receivers relying on Big Battered Ben ...

and no QBs

Good luck to the remaining 7. Based my strategy around LT but he came up small for me. Injuries to Brown, Rice, and Jones (?) killed my flex position.

Good luck to the remaining 7.
Ditto that.Awful performance this week for me. Even a QB wouldn't have helped, but I'm still mad that I didn't prioritize or pick QBs well (staring at Cutler (health?), Rivers (ACL?), and Rodgers (could he perform?) and passed on all of them). We'll see how things go now that the bye weeks have arrived! I hope one of you guys wins it all ...'representing' for league 11.

nice reverse jinx there.Im out. Good luckI would have had a hard time drafting if I Survived anyway, I'll be in the bahamas the week of the drafts.

As I predicted at the draft, I made it to week 4. But it probably ends there. Too many bye weeks and injuries to make it another week, most likely...

EDIT: Now that Parker's OUT for next week, that seals it. DONE. I don't think I have more than one healthy running back for week 4 who's not on bye.
