Competely hypothetical question here, but let's say that the Jets played the Giants in Week 16.

Who would be favored? By how much?

What would you expect from the game and why?

Would it matter who was declared the home team?

(For those who don't know, this matters in at least three ways - (1) - Who gets the home lockerroom, (2) - Who gets first choice of the jersey colors, and (3) - Most importantly, which set of fans and season ticket holders are likely in the seats.)

I'll post my thoughts shortly.

Both teams are fighting for their playoff lives.

The Jets at 8-6 have a decent chance, as do the 7-7 Giants.

Let's look at the matchups (in theory, of course):

Passing Game - Coles and Cotchery have been lighting it up. The Giants have not had a good game with Eli at the helm since Toomer went down. EDGE - Jets.

Running Game - The duo of Tiki Barber and Brandon Jacobs is one of the best in the league. Tiki's been monstrous between the 10's, and Jacobs is doing well as a short yardage specialist (but could still improve). Houston/Washington/Barlow sounds like connecting flights more than a set of running backs. Easy call here. EDGE - Giants.

Run Defense - The Jets are playing well against the opposition, and the Giants have had troubles with Westbrook and MB3 of late. EDGE - Jets.

Passing Defense - This is the weak point of the Giants. Their secondary is a mess, and they are giving up lots of yardage. The Jets are middle of the statistical pack but they are opportunistic. EDGE - Jets.

Special teams - Both kickers know the Meadowlands, but I think Nugent has had a better year. Justin Miller is going to the Pro Bowl on special teams. Easy call. EDGE - Jets.

Coaching - Two sets of coaches and teams heading in opposite directions. Mangini has worked wonders with lesser-name talent and emphasized his strengths. Coughlin has a big mess on his hands and is not close to righting the ship. EDGE - Jets.

THE PICK - Despite all the advantages to the Jets, I think that this game would be hard fought and closer than many would think. I could see the Giants running well and scoring on the ground, and also connecting with Shockey for a second TD. The Jets would rely on Pennington throwing 30-40 times and moving the Jets slowly down field with 6-12 yard passes, with an occasional long toss. I'd pick the Jets to win somewhere in the range of 23-17.
