I liked the first one, hated the sequel and have no interest in the third one because of how much I disliked the sequel.Absolutely hated The Hangover. Didn't laugh once.

Let's add The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou to that too.Royal Tannenbaums was horrible.
Come on now. I think you are misremembering how bad Batman and Robin was.Let's add The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou to that too.Royal Tannenbaums was horrible.
Also Batman & Robin was better than Dark Knight Rises.
Royal Tannenbaums was horrible.
I cannot support you on this one. I now have to question EVERY decision you've ever made.Let's add The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou to that too.Royal Tannenbaums was horrible.

No. I've actually seen them all very recently and far too often. Batman and Robin reminds me of the old campy Batman that I grew up with. It doesn't take itself too seriously and yes, neither did the actors. You can tell Arnold was having a good time and I believe he was probably the only one that wanted to be there.Come on now. Never seen itForrest Gump is the worst "Best Picture" winner ever.
Still, B&R is historically bad. I remember watching it in the theater. I saw all 4 of the Batman's from that era in the theater and this was the only one that I felt cheated on. Jim Carrey and TLJ put in Oscar worthy performances compared to that ####. I don't think the camp was on purpose. I think that was Shumacher's vision of what Batman should be. Plus, even if it wasn't to be taken seriously, did he have to just mail in the script at every corner? No. I've actually seen them all very recently and far too often. But for me, Dark Knight Rises is just bad. It could have been better. It's a 2.5 hour Batman movie that Batman is in for a total of 20 minutes (from http://www.comicbookmovie.com/batman_movies/news/?a=64971 : "12. The movie should have been titled Bruce Wayne Rises because Batman only has a very few scenes in the actual movie. As a matter of fact, a few of the minor characters probably share just as much screen time as the caped crusader. ") Batman is my favorite DC character and I was bored for the entire first 2 hours of the film. I couldn't stand Tom Hardy as Bane - are we sure it wasn't Sean Connery doing the voice acting - because I kept feeling like he was doing a bad Sean Connery impression and thinking that's how Bane's supposed to talk. Hathaway wasn't a very good Catwoman - she does a good Selina Kyle, but a bad Catwoman, if that makes sense. At least it wasn't as bad as the movie starring Halle Berry. The only saving grace of the movie was Talia Al Ghul, but her story needed much more screen time. Think of how people pick apart Spiderman 3 as being trash for trying to shove in Sandman, Harry as Goblin, the black suit and then Venom. That's how I feel about Dark Knight Rises. Also, unlike The Dark Knight, it didn't have Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker to save it from being a bad film.
I welcome a fresh take, even if it's played by Ben Affleck. Or perhaps I don't. I have low expectations for Affleck. I hope he can impress like Keaton did in '89.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but it's mine and seemingly mine alone and I defend it for now. I will end this by saying that in no way am I calling Batman and Robin a good film. It's just a testiment of how much I loathe the latest one.
You don't have to like it, of course, but that movie was brilliant. It may be one of those things that's best saved to watch until you're after 30.Sideways was terrible.
*blowsout*For comedies, This is Spinal Tap wasn't that funny and Kingpin was downright horrible.
Take that back. It was a masterpiece.Other than the wood chipper scene Fargo sucks. They talk funny. Yeah, we get it.

I enjoy Starship Troopers as a guilty pleasure but it's B level.I will echo somebody's post from above about not getting comedies in general, but for me it is more older 'classic' comedies. Most I didn't see at the time, or grew up with. Started trying to catch up with some in the last decade and sat stone faced through most of these movies:
Caddyshack, Animal House, Airplane, Mel Brooks movies, Vacation, etc.. (I know I am missing some)
Also, people have mentioned The Godfather, but I dug that one. For me the one I will never get the love for is Goodfellas. Use of the annoying voiceover and the annoying Joe Pesci, and it took all my energy getting through it once. Appreciate the talent of Scorsese, but don't think he has made a great movie since the 80s. Some very good ones in the 00s, but not great.
Couple more, just in case that didn't get me banned from here: Cable Guy is Carrey's best comedy, and Starship Troopers is great.
To me this ruins a lot of otherwise good movies. Needless to say I liked Bladerunner much more without it.Use of the annoying voiceover
One movie I would say that is better because of it is Payback. Watched the director's cut and it just doesn't have the same feel without the gritty, snarky voiceover. To me this ruins a lot of otherwise good movies. Needless to say I liked Bladerunner much more without it.Use of the annoying voiceover
All of these are better than Titanic. (I post this only as fact, because I doubt this is an unpopular take).cstu said:Argo.identikit said:Crash is for me.Workhorse said:Forrest Gump is the worst "Best Picture" winner ever.
Seriously has to go to The Greatest Show on Earth over High Noon.

And Spinal Tap was an awesome parody of a rock band. Granted the humor is lost on some people (a major problem with all comedy actually) but it was well done.oh come on.. Kingpin was delightful.Andrew74 said:For comedies, This is Spinal Tap wasn't that funny and Kingpin was downright horrible.
I can stomach all the unpopular opinions of movies. Tons of great movies being mentioned in here that don't sit with some. And I am sure I will think of quite a few myself soon.Mario Kart said:Shawshank Redemption is a good movie but its not that good. The praise for it, especially around these parts, is too much.
Bolded the ones....I think are essential movie watching and great great pictures.Movies from the IMDB top 250 that I really don't care for

Pulp Fiction
Forrest Gump
LOTR: FOTR and ROTK
City of God
American History X
The Departed
WALL-E
Full Metal Jacket
Big Lebowski
V for Vendetta
Wizard of Oz
There Will Be Blood
Million Dollar Baby (I loathe this movie)
And then...
Absolutely anything by Woody Allen
Almost anything by Martin Scorcese
This has been firmly established over the years. Some of these responses I'm wondering how your mind works that you can hate these movies. You must look at the world in a completely different way than I do.
Some stuff like Royal Tannenbaums I can understand if people don't like it. Even Big Lebowski, which is my favorite comedy.
But Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Sideways? how can you not appreciate those? Great filmmaking, great performances.
Nice list for this thread. I'm with you on Godfather for sure. And Woody Allen. I feel like Forest Gump was entertaining, but too cute for its own good. American History X, There Will Be Blood, Million Dollar Baby and The Departed were films that were decent, but made better by some great performances.Movies from the IMDB top 250 that I really don't care for

Agree 100%...this guy essentially developed a unique "style" of crappy movie, patented it, and convinced others that it was fantastic cinema.drummer said:Anything Tarantino

I liked all of those as well. Silverado was a ton of fun. To me Unforgiven was one of the few truly adult westerns. It took the anti-hero and turned it on itself. Showing how the man with no name ended up after riding into the sunset. I thought it was powerful in a way most westerns aren't.And it's not like I don't like westerns. Open Range was really good. easily a top 5 movie for me, but I get the complaints about feeling like different movies and I know your distain for the F bombs. It is without a doubt my favorite Clint western. I agree on Schindler's List. In 1996 (my Sr. year in college) I took a class on the Holocaust. We watched a ton of different movies about it (many artsy films) and then Schindler's list. When the professor asked us to "grade" it, I gave it the lowest grade by far. Many people in the class bristled and thought I was nuts or trying to prove some odd point, but then the Prof revealed his grade and it was much closer to mine than theirs. Interesting thing about it is that there were only two non-Jews in the class (myself included) plus the professor. I think the movie means more to people as a popular movie that brought the Holocaust to light (and reinforced it on a generation that knew little about compared to the previous two), than it was an actual good movie on the Holocaust. The best movie (from what I remember) that we watched was one called "White Jew"...I remember I could barely get up from my seat after that one.I think Schindler's List is overrated. It's one of the world's best directors doing his favorite topic, but, to me, it's not a top ten film.
And, generally, after 1995, no more World War II stories. You had 50 years with it. Find a new story.
