Unusual Flex rules (1 Viewer)

Anyone run a league with unusual flex rules/setups?

Our league is looking to change some things up. Make "flex" truly mean "flex" in some way

Currently we run a start 2 QB (10 team league). We are looking at something like this for starters:

Minimum Starters: 2 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 2 TE, 2 K, 2 DEF: 10 minimum

Maximum Starters: 3 QB, 3 RB, 5 WR, 4 TE, 3 KR, 3 DEF: (10 minimum + 3 Flex players) .....So Total Max Starters = 15

Pretty basic performance scoring league with 0.25 pts/reception for RB/WR/TE.

Just looking for ideas to liven things up a bit...tx

2-3 QBs will ruin the league.. There aren't enough QB's in the NFL to support that many. Someone will be starting out with a '0' at QB2 every week..

We use 2 Flex positions, but only RB/WR/TE

1QB is enough.

Starting 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex, 1 PK, 1 Def/ST

Our scoring influences top TE as more valuable than RB3/WR2 comparisons.

I think from what you are describing as a "true" flex, the easiest way to do it is to adjust scoring to make the positions more equal.

So if QBs all score higher than other positions, make it 1 for 25 or 30 for passing yards. Make passing TDs 4 and INTs 2 or 3. If TEs mostly score way less, give them a higher PPR than RB/WR.

Stuff like that to kind of even up the value of the positions seems to be what you are trying to achieve based on how I'm reading your question. It would also allow you to have lower minimum starters (i.e. 1 QB, 1 TE) and more flex spots (5?) since the positions all score somewhat equally and 4 QBs wouldn't necessarily be any better than 4 TEs.

Ours is a little weird. We originally had 2 RB's, and 3 receivers (who could be either WR or TE). Ran the league that way for over 20 years, then last year had a odd twist added - the second RB could be a TE! This would allow you to run 1 back sets, use TE's as H-backs, and give your team some flexibility with your backups. Everybody seemed to get into it, as there was not the usual whining that there simply weren't enough backs to go around, and finally gave the TE some value without requiring you actually start one of them.

Our System:

1-2 RB started weekly.

0-3 WR started weekly.

0-4 TE started weekly.

Totaling 5 players.

Yes, this is what we are trying to accomplish...a true flex position, but with positional maximums...i.e., we are a 2 QB league already, so for the 3 total flex players, you can only use 1 flex at the QB position (for a total of 3), 4 total RBs (2 minimum plus allow for up to 2 more as flex)., 2 minimum WR/TE, but allow for up to 5 total at either position.Yes, we will need to adjust scoring for each category because right now, we have a pretty balanced scoring system and dont want one position to dominate the others if we add one more flex into the equation.

Our System

QB - 1

RB - min 1, max 3

WR/TE - min 2, max 4

Total of 5 players not including QB

When I joined this league it took a little time to adjust, but I like because if you don't have an elite RB you can make up for it with your WR. My WR core is A. Johnson, R. White, H. Nicks, P. Harvin, but my RB's are all middle of the road at best.

I would generally recommend balancing the scoring system out so each position scores roughly the same and then letting people pick whomever they want to play at flex. For example, if QBs scored less and TEs got 2 PPR, suddenly people would have to stratgically pick from QB/RB/WR/TE as flex players. Most leagues don't allow QB at flex (too much scoring) and most folks avoid TE at flex (not enough scoring). Just a suggestion . . .

I am in this league with Birdie and it is easily my favorite scoring-wise out of all my leagues. You get to play your best players, injuries don't hurt as much and it is just fun to see how people craft their teams (and we constantly debate what is the best strategy to go with).
