US Men's National Team (14 Viewers)

None of them really grabbing me as an obvious winner, tbh.
It feels tricky to me as well because you have to factor in last year's second half of the club season where neither Pulisic nor Musah were playing well.

Balogun probably has had the most consistent club play in the calendar year 2023, but he was not any where close to Pulisic at the international level.

Pepi can't be chosen but he has probably done the most on a per minute basis both at club and country.

Turner losing his spot, even temporarily, this fall hurts his case.

Interestingly, Weston may be playing as well as anyone right now and was not even listed. He was not great for Leeds last spring but he was not any worse than Musah or Pulisic at the club level IMO.

Funny... I was leaning swag too. Musahs been pretty consistent and has seemed to improve over the year, but doesn't have the stats to make much of a case (again, I'm more of eyeball guy than a stats guy).

Tillman and Pepi start and Dest on bench for the UCL game today (game has no meaning, Arsenal will be in 1st and PSV in second no matter the results today)

Even though the US is clearly not in his focus right now, I still think we can land him if and when he realizes that he is unlikely to crack the England lineup given their depth

Taylor Twellman: I don’t even know if Noel Buck is going to be in New England when 2024 kicks off. Every Premier League club thinks he can be a huge player in years to come

Sources: Atlanta United is close to a deal to sign goalkeeper Josh Cohen, who was most recently with Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Premier League. Cohen was in USMNT camp in June.

THANK YOU GOD!!!

For those unaware of this very late bloomer, here is what he has done since transferring out of the USL

From wiki
==============================

On July 19, 2019, Sacramento Republic and Maccabi Haifa agreed to a transfer of Cohen to the Israeli Premier League club in advance of their 2019–20 season.[17] Cohen made his first start on September 25, 2019, where he was in net for a 3–0 victory over Maccabi Netanya. He returned to the starting line-up on October 26, 2019, for another 3–0 victory, this time over Hapoel Kfar Saba. He then started every game until the season's eventual postponement. In that time, he conceded only 15 goals in his 21 games, saw out 12 clean sheets, and helped lead Maccabi Haifa to a second-place finish at the end of the first stage of the regular season.[18]

Cohen was named the Israeli Premier League's Player of the Season in 2020–21, leading Maccabi Haifa to their first league championship since their last one in 2010–11.[19]

In the 2021–22 season, Cohen led the club to repeat as Israeli Premier League Champions, finishing the season with the best defensive record in the league and earning 16 clean sheets across the campaign. This earned Maccabi Haifa a 2022-23 UEFA Champions League playoff round berth, where they would go on to defeat Olympiacos, Apollon Limassol, and Red Star Belgrade.[20] In the ensuing UCL group stage, Cohen's five saves led Haifa to a 2-0 clean sheet win over Juventus.[21]

In May 2023, Cohen and Haifa clinched their third consecutive Israeli Premier League title with a 5-1 win over Maccabi Netanya. [22]

PSV coach Peter Bosz said he found it “almost scary” how good USMNT international Malik Tillman looked vs Arsenal.
Watched a bit of the 1st half tonight... He jumped off the screen on both sides of the ball. And looked like he was playing as an actual 10. Had an insane modric-esque outside of the foot first time through ball... Perfectly weighted and placed... That led to what should've been a Pepi goal. Was just bossing it in the middle of the park.

For Milan to come in 2nd in the group, they have to beat Newcastle and Dortmund must beat PSG.

If Milan win, they at least get into Europa League by clinching 3rd.

Not saying that they are guaranteed to lose in the first stage of knockouts of CL, as there are no easy teams at that point l, but they'd face a #1 from another group.

In Europa, Milan is likely to advance much further, even if the stage is smaller and stakes are lower.

Well the good news is Milan just scored and is currently in position to get into Europa league.

The bad news is it was Chukweze who scored, who is the only guy that could push Pulisic for playing time and has now scored in back to back UCL games.

Still an outside shot at Champions League knockouts if Dortmund can score against PSG.

It was a great strike. nice problem to have for milan.

I thought Pulisic had been having a good game before the goal. Musah not so much.

Hmm, I would rather he get to Europe but if not, he and Miazga would make quite a nice CB combo........

Sources: USMNT center back Miles Robinson is visiting FC Cincinnati on the first day of free agency. Robinson, 26, is out of contract with Atlanta United. PSV among interested clubs in Europe, but on the first day of FA he visits the Supporters' Shield winners.

Off the top of my head, FCC ‘s progression with USMNT “names” is something like

Harkes (coach) > Gyau/Stanko>Cameron>Miazga.

If they add Robinson, that pretty much guarantees we’ll get Pulisic in the next 3 years right?

I have gone on record saying I think MLS is going to make a HUGE play for Pulisic right after WC 2026. It will not take the creative financing they needed for Messi but if it is to happen, it will be a massive massive deal, probably one of the biggest in league history.

The question is what owner is going to want to pony up that much cash for a 28 year old thin framed winger who has proven to be fragile to a long term deal?

Pulisic with the equalizer!

what a pass from Giroud
Musah in the build up as well!

Is it really a pass though? Giroud miss-hit imo.
Really? Seems like a pass, but you could be right.
It was absolutely a pass. Give stupid sexy Giroud some credit. You can even see him glance right before hitting the ball.

Depends. Pulisic looks MUCH stronger this year. Even his hammy injury only kept him out 2 weeks. He's not knocked off the ball as easily anymore and he's gliding around the pitch like he owns it. In summer 2026 you could be looking at a top 20 winger in the world who's ONLY 28 and is playing at the top of his game. If that's the case. I wouldn't be surprised to see him need $40-50M plus to shun Europe to play at home for lesser competition.

he may be playing some of his most consistent soccer of his club career right now. If he can stay healthy, this is going to be great for him and the US national team.

Although it is worth noting that traditionally, smaller skillful wingers get their pro career started much earlier than other positions, hit their peak earlier and end their careers earlier. Pulisic is only 25 now but has been a pro for 9 years already (jesus christ does time ever slow down??). If he can buck the normal trend and still be a top player in his early 30's, he is going to need extra trucks to carry his money.

@BTLvid

PSV Eindhoven have won 15 out of 15 league matches. They sit 10 points clear atop the Eredivisie, having scored 52 goals and conceded 6, and they are in the Champions League knockout round for the first time in eight years.
Even though they aren't starting regularly (yet), with Dest starting regularly and Pepi as well as Tillman having definite impacts, that's pretty fantastic.

And Stewart at the helm too. :)

D.C. United homegrown CB Matai Akinmboni performed well on a two-week training assignment at Villarreal, and sources abroad say the Spanish club is strongly considering an offer. (He couldn’t move until his 18th birthday next fall.)
Akimnboni is eligible for Nigeria also. No idea if he's even interested in Nigeria, but for a CB to be getting MLS minutes but only getting 1 callup and zero game time at the U17 level is just such a travesty.

I certainly hope we name a U20 coach soon. We should be having camps now. CONCACAF U20 qualifying is this summer and Akinmboni certainly should be part of that squad. I'd really hate for him to move to Europe before we get him integrated.

Richards starting in midfield vs Man City
Robinson starting for Fulham but Ream on bench again. It appears like he's truly lost the starting role.

LDT, Reyna, Aaronson, and Paredes all also on the bench today
