US Men's National Team (31 Viewers)

I am still digesting a 40 page slide show on the new rules FIFA is putting in place starting July 1, 2025.

So far the only thing of interest is that if a keeper holds the ball for more than 8 seconds, a corner kick will be awarded to the opposition.

Ref is suppose to use a visual count down when 5 seconds are left. There appears to be some wording that leaves it up to the ref for when to start the 8 seconds count down, based on a simple save (immediate) vs a diving save where ref must be sure ball is secure first.

======

The only other rule of consequence is that the refs now have a very clear and visual method of signaling “captain only” when he gets surrounded. Once the ref gives the signal, all players except the captain must move away at least 4 meters. Any players who encroach besides the captain will get a yellow card.

In principle I like both new rules. I am skeptical as to how strict the refs will be on either of them.

As the rules go into effect on July 1st, I am unsure how this effects the Gold Cup which will be almost over but not completely finished yet.

Eddie Johnson has come to Pulisic's defense and tried to explain to Donovan why his stance is not fair

=====================

It’s good to know that we’re moving forward as a soccer nation. Only real soccer nations have stupid controversies like this.
it gets better. Now Pulisic's dad is using AI to prove that Landon is a hypocrite :lmao:

No qualifying trips to Greenland for the US

Concacaf "Member Associations reviewed the membership application submitted by the Greenlandic Football Association and unanimously rejected it" today at its 28th Extraordinary Congress.

The best part about this rule will be CONCACAF keepers holding the ball for 15 seconds and the ref starting the countdown at 14.

Expectation for tomorrow? 3-1 loss? I appreciate the US really setting the stage for a massive redemption arc in the World Cup next year.

I think it'll be cool to see how quickly (and I'm guessing instantaneously) the refs and players ignore these rules... Just as they do the existing rules in place that cover these two things. I'm sure the finger puppet hand signals will be awesome though. I'd like to see them do dance moves like the umps in bananaball.instead.

I have more hope of the “ captain only “ one working because I have to think no ref likes being surrounded.

was thinking about the Turkey game amidst the criticism I've seen about them losing again.

I don't think they played that badly. lost the game on a few minutes of brainfarts, but otherwise held their own and had plenty of opportunities to get a result. they weren't over-run and went toe-to-toe with a better squad with much better players. yeah- I wanted more guys to shine, but a few guys took advantage... all I can ask for in a friendly

Case in point... From my Pulse daily sports mail. I know I'm not the results guy, but I don't think a win is needed. Would be nice, especially if they sort some players out...but I'll take a well played loss with individual players elevating over a messy win with nobody shining.

This is a pretty important friendly for the ailing Americans. Vibes are bad. Tyler Adams is out. Win needed.

Fabrizio has confirmed that Lyon and Forrest have agreed on a transfer for Turner. He also confirms Perri (current Lyon keeper) is very soon to leave.

Fabs is also saying Napoli is in talks to take Musah from Milan.
I expected him to go out somewhere below Milan... reigning scudetto champ would be pretty cool
Other media in Italy say the price will be around 20m which seems a little high given how he played this year.

It's really, really dumb. I don't give a rat's *** if they win any friendly. I care that they play well and that we learn something. They could have scheduled like Belarus or Kuwait or something and ground out a win. Ended the losing streak. Who cares? What the hell would that tell us about whether we can use Jack McGlynn or Alex Freeman in the World Cup?

Napoli feeling a little cocky after turning Scott McTominay into the Serie A player of the year.

I agree. Hopefully they will be enforced. Watching Andorra v England the other day and from minute 1 the Andorra keeper was going full Pickford, a simple catch and laydown for no reason...

I realize Turkey is 27th in the rankings and the US is currently 16th. But I feel like we should be closer to them, kind of the 2nd tier of European teams. Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, Turkey...
They should be a good matchup and a good bar. Very easily could have been 1-0 or 2-1 US. Couple mistakes and the US loses. And not a bad showing for the US B-ish team.

Musah at Napoli would be amazing IMO. Conte would be easily the best coach he's played for and Conte excels at putting players in a position to succeed. I think Musah is extremely talented and if Conte can focus that talent? Watch out. I really hope this deal goes through.

Fabrizio just posted an update saying the negotiations have advanced to the final stage.

Normally I would not recommend any player use the Dest style of self promotion, but Gio’s case it can’t get any worse for him.

This is Gio’s post on a clever finish he had in training

I remember that dude.
Musah and Napoli have now agreed on terms. Just need the last details worked out between the clubs now which Fabrizio says is very close.
this seemed to come so fast and, for me, out of leftfield going to the champions... I'm still wrapping my head around it.

It's honestly shocking. Musah looked ok at the beginning of the season, but the last 3 months he was the worst player on the field almost every time out for Milan. Napoli making such a quick move for him means he's one of their priorities. It's a crazy change of direction for his career.

Starting line up

....................................Turner

Harriel..............Zimm..........McKenzie.........Arfsten

............................Johnny..........Sebbbbbbbb

......................................Paxten

Quinn........................White.........................Brenden

This is just a guess on formation. The Aaronsons and Sebbbbb might be slightly inter changable.

Tonight you all get to experience life as a 2020’s Union fan!

Congrats or sorry in advance

Not the ‘a team’ we would have predicted a few months ago

I just keep repeating to myself:

"you dance with the fella that brought you"

can't do anything else at this point. This is probably ~1.5 players of who I would consider locked in starters (.75 for Turner and .75 for McKenzie). And I really thought there was a chance that Turner would actually lose his spot this summer but instead Steffen had knee surgery today......sigh

Looking at the US line up and knowing that Switzerland just beat a full strength Mexico team 4-2, it feels like a 3-1 loss tonight would be generous.

Then again, these friendlies can be a bit crazy and I assume Switzerland is likely to make some changes as well.

After the U18’s beat France (in PK’s), and then beat Argentina, they finished out the group with a late winner against Australia.

Today they won the UEFA Friendship Cup with a pk victory over Portugal (1-1) in the final.

Goes without saying those were some impressive results.
Hard to know what sort of roster the other sides put out there but this is our 07s -- without Peyton Miller, Zavier Gozo, Neil Pierre, Harbor Miller, Ruben Ramos, and Johnny Shore.

Pierre is hurt but the rest are playing up age groups this window. The 2007 class seems to be pretty deep (unlike 05 and 06).

Serious question - What are we hoping to learn this summer?

Some of these player don't look nearly ready for this level of competition.

And sadly, we don't look very well coached.
