do we know if he's training with the first team and dressing for games?

if so, I'm torn. I want him to play- but training with that cast of galacticos every day would be priceless.... and I usually lean on the side of playing.

I don't look every week but I have not seen him on the game day roster almost all season.

The poor guy has been cursed to the John O'Brien levels since going to Werder

@aronjo20 has been forced to undergo another operation and will be out for the next three months Stay strong Aron - we look forward to seeing you back out on the pitch soon

Maybe getting all the bad luck out of the way early in trying to get our kids on the field together will pay off down the line (or its a harbinger of things to come)...

#usmnt caretaker manager Dave Sarachan says F Josh Sargent is "day-to-day" with his ankle strain. Hopeful that if he's not available tomorrow then he'll be available Tuesday against Italy.

US u17 women beat Cameroon 3-0, somewhat controversially.

Scored first goal with a Cameroon defender laid out. Kept playing right past her. 2nd goal on a GK foul/red/pk. Can't speak to whether it was the right call. 2nd cameroom red (on 2nd yellow for a shoulder tackle) I think lead to the 3rd goal.

Univision, who only reports when things are near 100% true, has finally reported that Tata to Mexico is done.

This is somewhat terrifying to me.

Seeing what Tata did with Almiron and Martinez, he is going to have a field day with Chucky, Herrera, Layun, Lainez, Jimenez etc.  Mexico are just loaded with young fast skillful players.

My only hope is that FMF gets in his way and he is either forced to leave or leaves on his own due to interference.

sure, Adams is playing the best of probably anyone on the team, so why start him?

USMNT NEWS Unless there are injuries or last-minute changes, I'm told USA will lineup as follows vs. England in a 4-4-2: Guzan; Yedlin, Miazga, Brooks, Villafana; Pulisic, McKennie, Trapp, Weah; Green, Wood. Pulisic more as RM but him and Weah will obviously get forward

No reason for him to be there.  I know, its a friendly, but still.

Trapp got the better of him multiple times when they faced off on Sunday.  I say this as a huge Adams fan and not a fan of Trapp's international performances.  Even though I think Adams should be the better of the two in the long run, Trapp has the head-to-head edge right now.

Huh. Thought Adams got the better of him ultimately, outside of a few plays.

The key difference for me was that Adams was all over the field making plays.  He had a huge effect in that game due to his heat map.  Where as Trapp was anchored in one spot.

Adams had the better overall game, but when they were in close quarters to/engaged with each other, Trapp mostly got the better between the two of them; he dispossessed Adams at least once if not 2-3 times and there was at least one sequence in which he not only matched Adams step for step chasing down the ball, he won it, which is something you wouldn't expect given Adams' motor.

I don't dislike Trapp, but I don't think he's shown very well on the international level, whereas Adams has at least once and I believe also has more upside than Trapp.  It just doesn't seem like the future is much of a factor in Sarachan's gameplans.  I still say let the young guys take their lumps against world class talent at this point, so they can learn what it takes to hang with them down the road.

I agree with you, but from strictly the perspective of what they did against each other, Trapp did well.  I don't agree with just that point of view, but Sarachan seems to.  Plus, if he wants an anchor, we already have Caillou.

Some of this Trapp vs Adams may be philisophical for Sarachan.

He has to know/believe the US is going to see very little of the ball today and likely be on the back foot for 70+ minutes.

In those situations, is it better to have a heat seeking missle like Adams try and disrupt the possession or is it better to have a disciplined player tactically like Trapp who will do his best to keep the defensive shape?

Although even with this thought process, I think I might still lean towards Adams because I think it is easier to teach a player tactics and responsibilities than it is to ask a player to do something he physically can not do.

Yeah, I agree.  I don't think any of us are so delusional to think "just start this player and the US will win!".   The US team is likely to get a lesson today unless England comes out very very flat.

To me this is all a learning experience for the future.

Hopefully Italy being in a similar state of disarray to the US will provide a better look at where we are instead of trying to gauge against a top 5ish team like England is.

I wonder if the dribble mad Pulisic will be on display today or if the lack of possession will keep him under wraps?

Pulisic is at an interesting time in his development.

These two stats clearly indicate he is dribbling too much.

Simultaneously, in Europe's big 5 league, Pulisic in the the very upper echelon of both completing the most dribbles AND losing the most dribbles.

While he probably needs to figure out how to manage how often he dribbles better, it is an instinct the US need as when you look up an down the roster, we have almost no one besides him that can beat a player one on one to unbalance a defense (something that will be critical once qualifying starts and the script flips where the US is facing the bunker).

Agree with all of this. And I noticed the plays where Trapp had his moments head to head and thought "huh".

And then there's Adams disrupting a play at the end of the game, flying up the field to get ahead of the offense and setting up the 3rd I think goal and a lovely give and go in tight quarters (after a 50 yard Sprint).

For me it's about Adams ability to cover and close ground and players quickly. Trapp is a solid player and I think has better vision, but is routinely a step off on those for the Nats.

Agree that we need to see swagadams and CP and as many of the likely yutes (Weah) on the same field as much as possible.

I get the sense the coach gave him license to dribble nonstop. Feel like he also does well creating good balls short or across...

#USMNT: Guzan; Yedlin, Miazga, Brooks, Villafana; McKennie, Trapp; Pulisic, Green, Weah; Wood.

Not in uniform: Luca de la Torre, Romain Gall, Jonathan Klinsmann, Aaron Long, Josh Sargent and Walker Zimmerman.

This is Pulisic's first U.S. senior appearance against a European opponent.

I like green ok and all... but so far haven't seen anything from him to suggest #10. feel like he's yet another guy on the flank. but he's also still young, right? like 22?

I'll be going radio-silent for this. will watch later tonight after the kids go to sleep or after I get home from work, whichever comes last.

too bad about Gall and Sargent. and even luca. that's a few young attacking guys not at our disposal I would've liked to see get minutes today.

Sargent trained apart from the team yesterday as he is still struggling with his ankle.  Hopefully he feels better by the time Italy comes around.

The other two I figure are in camp (like Klinsmann) for the general first exposure to the program and not for minutes.   Sarachan invited a big roster.

I forgot- Amon?

I like this idea, Weah and Pulisic on the wings with a 10 in front of two D-mids, but hopefully we'll have better players at the 9/10 at some point.
The general problem that you alluded to here is that Pulisic is both our best winger and our best number 10.

My guess is that the next coach is likely to put Pulisic in the middle as we have many more wide players in the program than we do attacking central players.

I might be crazy but I have no worries for our number 9.  I think Sargent is to the total package.   Finding a number ten that is not Pulisic is going to be very tough considering none exist right now that is of any useful age.

I still like nagbe there. and can't wait for Carleton to... dunno... fulfill his destiny. young reyna? but yeah, green definitely not that guy so far.

also still worry about CP being at his best wider (ala LD)... and losing some of that if he moves inside. IMO, everything should be done to get CP at his best for the US.

The two players that got the most love from Sarachan's tenure are Green and Trapp.

Trapp obviously plays for Berhalter at club level so if Gregg is finally hired, I assume Trapp will continue to be part of the program.

I can't speak to Green.  He has neither been horrible or great (which pretty much defines the entire team I guess).

and agree- even trying to hold my reservations and expectations in check... Sargent continues to impress me. needs work and fertilizing, but seems to have such a high ceiling that he's shown no signs of being afraid to reach for.
