Tyler Adams played the second half today for RB in a friendly and the feedback so far was that he played very well.

======

dual nat, 17 year old Charlie Kelman made his professional debut today with Southend United and scored as well.

Twellman doesn't expect Busio to be with #SportingKC much longer, apparently KC is getting a lot of calls about him.

Since he has a Euro passport, he can go over before 18, similar to what Pulisic did with his Euro passport.  At least KC won't lose him for nothing like they did with Eric Palmer Brown.

ok, we might as well get some background on Charlie.

*Born in the US to English parents

*Grew up in Texas but was not able to crack the FC Dallas academy

*Moved to England with parents

*Scoring rate at the youth level is ridiculous.  Had something like 60+ goals last year.

*After scoring a ton this year as well, he capped it off with a 4 goal performance which got him called up to the first team and the wonder goal today.

*He got called up for the US U18 team last summer.  I believe that was his first call up.

Nice.

How much of that is the goalie misplaying it?  Not pooping on it, I was just wondering if the goalie had advanced too far upfield.   Really nice either way.
To me that was the best part of the goal.  The keeper was actually a few steps deeper than I believe they are taught to be in the modern game where they are expected to cut off long passes.   From the camera angle it is hard to tell but it looks like he was still in his own box.  The shot came out of no where.  Charlie did not even look up when he hit it.

Charlie Kelman is the youngest ever goalscorer for #Southend United on a league debut at 17 years and 71 days old, beating a record held by John Gymer since 1984. He is our second youngest first team goalscorer of all time behind Bobby Kellard who scored when he was still only 16

Future USMNT‏ @FutureUsmnt

Sergino Dest got another start for Jong Ajax earlier today, and played 84 minutes at right back in a 2-2 draw vs. Jong PSV. Dest also grabbed an assist, setting up Brazilian striker Danilo for the opener. The 18 year has played quite well since moving up from the U19s

*Tyler started today and played the first half in another friendly.  What little I read said he did not play as well as yesterday.

*Bobby Wood had two goals in the 4-1 friendly for Hannover.

Former #USMNT forward David Wagner leaves his post as manager of Huddersfield by mutual consent with the club’s board. There is only so far to go with Huddersfield. The fact he got the team promoted and kept it up for a season is a huge accomplishment. He will land on his feet

Neymar with some nice comments about Weah's move

=============================

PSG team-mate Neymar believes Weah has made the right decision by joining Celtic and expects the 18-year-old to develop during his time with Brendan Rogers' title-chasing side.

"It is a very exciting move for him from what I have seen of his talent he has everything to go and be one of the top attacking players in Europe," Neymar told the Daily Record.

"It is a good move for him, a good move for Celtic as they are getting such a big talent, and also a good move for PSG because he has a chance to get experience and games and come back to us a more complete player.

"He did have options - but he chose the right one. Celtic are a big club, in their league they attack a lot and score a lot of goals, and also they are still in Europe - so they offer him much."

West Ham and Southampton are preparing to table bids Southend’s teenage sensation Charlie Kelman, Football Insider understands.

Kelman is regarded as one of the best young talents in the country following his goalscoring exploits for Southend’s youth sides and he enhanced his reputation with a stunning goal from the halfway line on his first-team debut against Plymouth on Saturday.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that West Ham were among several clubs in attendance at Roots Hall to cast an eye over Kelman against Plymouth.

Kelman’s potential has not gone unnoticed higher up the football pyramid with a number of Premier League and Championship sides tracking him.

West Ham and Southampton see Kelman as a star in the making and they are keen to try and sign the attacker during this month’s transfer window.

Southend are braced for offers and the League One club will find it hard to resist a sizeable offer for their prize asset.

The 17-year-old forward scored a stunning 61 goals last season and he has again been prolific for the Southend’s youth sides this season.

U.S. U-18 forward Charlie Kelman, 17, inks pro contract with Southend United - days after scoring a spectacular goal in his league debut

So we have to hope he's not good enough to get called up by England. The life of usmnt fans.
it kind of sucks imo.

We get dual nationals who are not good enough to play for their own country to play for us but we sometimes lose very good players who want to look else where.

It is what it is and I don't see FIFA changing rules so this is something we have to live with.  US Soccer does not appear to want to get into the habit of capping players for protection sake so we are going to lose players.

Our best hope is that players like Dest, Kelman, de la Fuente are eligible for such strong countries that they won't get called.  I doubt any of them will be good enough for the senior teams but I do get worried that they could easily be called into a youth camp making the process more difficult.

The bigger fear is obviously Mexico since we are starting to produce players that can make their full national team.  I might cry if Alex Mendez ever switches.  He is using the "all doors remain open" approach.

I know it is cynical, but I kind of wish US Soccer would be ok giving spots 22 and 23 on the roster, to young players in danger of leaving, in the Gold Cup in the hopes of locking them up with a late game sub.

I have mentioned before how soccer is lagging in producing players from Florida.  So today's news from Inter Miami is very welcomed.

========================

Another pressing order of business is the summer launch of the youth academy, which will be a fully funded program for 160 hand-selected players — U12 through U19 boys’ teams with 20 players per squad.

Former Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas star Javier “El Maestro” Morales, a native of Argentina, will be named an Inter Miami Academy coach in the next few days.

Meanwhile, McDonough, technical director Kurt Schmid (son of recently deceased MLS coach Sigi Schmid), and director of soccer operations Niki Budalic have been scouring local fields in search of talent.

“Our academy is going to be all South Florida kids,” McDonough said. “We are not going to import kids to take spots from the local kids. I have been out at Kendall, Weston, Lauderhill and other places, and there is so much talent down here, it’s crazy. It’s one of the deeper areas of the country.

“It’s just finding all the right pieces and putting those kids in the right environment. Some kids are super talented, but haven’t played in a structure like ours. The jump will be big, but we want to give that opportunity to those kids. Nobody will be excluded based on money. We will pay for everything.”

U.S. Soccer announced key appointments to the national team on Wednesday, with former U.S. international Josh Wolff among those joining Gregg Berhalter's set-up.

Wolff has been appointed an assistant coach, B.J. Callaghan as strategy analyst and assistant coach, Steve Tashjian as head performance expert and Darcy Norman as movement and conditioning coach.

Dest did a podcast with Scuffed today.   He is not ready to commit to the US yet using the "keeping doors open" approach that most duals appear to using today until they are locked in.

this is a must watch.  Behind the scenes at the first week of camp

Maybe @El Floppo or someone else who actually played at a high level can help me out here...

If you stop and read the stuff written on the boards it's literally stuff like "if you're marked, move to an open space".  Do college/pro coaches really need to say that?!

I really want to be wrong, but everything about Berhalter makes me squirmy about our future.

FIrst thing John Wooden did every season at UCLA was show his players how to put on their socks and sneakers.  Off the ball movement and lack of forward options in the midfield have been a huge problem for this team.  It's a basic point, but it's kind of essential if you're going to stress breaking lines after winning the ball.

Semi sarcastic response:  "Did you see how the team played last cycle?"

Semi serious response:  "Our last coach was part egomaniac, and the coach before him was part charlaton.  I am actually looking forward to a coach willing to teach players"

Belichick is this way as well.  He leaves absolutely nothing up to assumption.

Agreed, it is clear from his interviews and from his teachings during scrimmages that he wants to emphasize line breaking passes, something the team has never excelled in and obviously better team movement will help the players who are making the difficult line breaking passes.

One of the things that amused me about the whiteboard stuff is people going all Zapruder film on it.  "Start on one side, and finish on the other side?  So big switches?"  I mean, anyone who's watched a handful of Columbus games knows they switched the field all the time.

It was the same with reactions to the Ronde drills.  Why such a big grid?  Because he wants to take the emphasis away for just shuffling the ball along to keep the possession and drill the players on getting their heads up and assessing whether they have a more positive pass available.

Maybe it works and maybe it doesn't, but he has a clear way he wants to play.  Which is refreshing.

I am not familiar with this term.  I googled it and could not an explanation.  Can you explain what this is?  I did notice the large grid on the practice field.
I had no idea the Barber twins played soccer - very cool!

Rondo is a staple, at least in our little world.  Every practice starts with 10 mins or so of Rondo (1-2 players in the middle trying to break up the passes from those on the outside of the circle).  Its a great drill to get them warmed up, thinking, playing with their eyes up, etc.  Tons of variations that keep it fun - most times the boys just start it up on their own as soon as there's enough on the field before practice starts.

I guess Tab gave a whale of an interview where he was unusually candid and even a bit angry.

The interview is behind a paywall but I have read some excepts including this one below.  @NedI think he might be referring to McKenzie here :(

https://twitter.com/TheAthleticSCCR/status/1085592044138057728
I'm on the board at our club now (hey look at me) and I was just discussing McKenzie on Tuesday night with one of our head coaches.  We're affiliated with the Union, so we get some unique insight from time to time.  We were discussing putting an article together about McKenzie and how he grew from our club up to the Union (showing club families the modern pathway - college soccer is an afterthought at this point).  McKenzie is very highly rated by them - it doesn't surprise me at all if Tab is referencing McKenzie there.  It sucks for US Soccer, but unless the rules change, I don't see them letting starters go play the youth tournaments.  It's no secret what they're trying to do after they shipped off their draft picks this year, but McKenzie is a big reason they're confident it's going to work out.

On that note - remember the name Miles Hood.  Another CB (only 14 right now - lives a mile down the road) that's gone from playing on our B team a few years ago (my son played with him) to now starting for  their academy and has been invited to some of the youth national camps.  Great kid from a great family that lives and breathes soccer.  Remembering back to seeing him play U11 to now - the growth is amazing.  They compared him to McKenzie noting he's years ahead of McKenzie from a technical standpoint.  I'm rooting for him big time.

Greg Garza has left camp with a quad injury.  He will not be replaced.  He will likely to be a starter in the friendlies so this should open up a chance for some one else.

this is pretty cool @Ned   Do you think this is a "golden generation" type coincidence or is this the by product of improvements made years ago?

It's not far fetched from the Eastern PA/Philly area providing the entire defensive support for the #USMNT during stretches of the upcoming friendlies. GK Steffen, RB Rosenberry, LB Lovitz, CB Trusty, CB McKenzie, D-mid Canouse

I am willing to bet its more about the academy structure getting a foothold on the region.

I don't know the other stories, but I know Rosenberry came from Penn Fusion, which is a pretty successful club in our region.  There's a big push in this region for the smaller clubs to merge/unify to create a bigger footprint in the area.  Penn Fusion was one of the first (I think) to do this, and it made a big difference.  We're all now playing catch up (there's a few others like PF).

Then you add in the mix of Union spreading their tentacles and it's becoming a pretty efficient pipeline....... rec -> travel -> elite -> union academy -> union sr. team

We play those teams all the time.  Our club is on the Gulf side of Florida, but we play in the Miami League.  There is a ton of talent in the region. It's surprising to see the number of players who play on a DA team in the area who are not at the same level (IMO) as some of the players on Weston's A team (at least in our age groups 03s and 05s).   I've asked a few times why Player A or B doesn't play on their DA team and there usually isn't an answer - I suspect it's money so it'd be awesome if Inter develops down here.   I know the Inter small sided teams (3v3 and 5v5) we play in the summer are always good games.

be cool if he could get in a sub appearance in first possible game
