it is worth noting that they must think very highly of Gio.  Pulisic at the same age started with the U17's at Dortmund.

Gio is more physically mature than Pulisic was though, so maybe they think he can handle the U19's as just a 16 year old......

Manny Perez is being loaned to North Carolina where he will be coached by Dave Sarachan.
I don't get it.  The was his academy club.  Playing USL doesn't seem like a way to improve.  Playing minutes away from your high school and college buds and living with your parents doesn't bode well for development IMO.

playing does.

he's young- and it sounds like the loan is for the rest of this summer, right? and isn't he coming out of college ball? if so, playing for the 1st team in USL should be a big step up from that. he keeps doing his thing, they'll bring him to scotland for pre-season and see where he fits. at that point, I'd imagine they'll bring him into the squad or give him a european loan somewhere. I genuinely doubt they'll just let him hang out in the USL... unless he really doesn't progress.

Adams had a very solid first half.

* Lots of touches, mostly short passes but a couple of longer ones, good accuracy

* He is playing central midfield role, slightly defensive in formation.

* He is playing more sideline to side line than box to box.

* He did get involved offensively though, with almost drawing a pk, almost having an assist and drawing a decent save from a long shot.

* Had his normal pesky cutting off of balls defensively

all in all, looks as comfortable as can be.

here are some tweets on the Adams first half

Halftime in Hannover, and Tyler Adams has been one of the best players on the field again. His poise and confidence on the ball is next level for a 19 year old

USMNT Videos‏ @USMNTvideos

My uncut Tyler Adams’ touches from the first half is over 14 minutes. Obviously, that will be cut down a lot but that shows you how involved he was even with missing 5 minutes with an injury

Arthur Kogan‏ @TheRealArturK

Tyler Adams exudes confidence. Kid is 19 in his second appearance for RB Leipzig, but looks like a Bundesliga veteran with 100+ appearances

Leipzig wins 3-0

Adams goes full 90 again and he is going to get a ton of minutes the second half of the season playing this way

Hannover was absolutely dreadful.  Wood played the second 45 but could not do anything (same as all his team mates).  It will be a miracle if they stay up

Leipzig looks like they have a great chance for Champions League play.  They are comfortably in 4th.  A win next week against Frankfurt who are in 5th would make things even better

Leipzig should get better.  Emil Forsberg is just getting back from a long term injury and looked good as a second half sub, and Temo Warner did not even play today as he was sick.

Adams may be the only American in Champions League next year if Chelsea don't right the ship quickly.

snippets from an article after the game

=====

Hannover v Leipzig was the debut of new Hannover 96 head coach Thomas Doll. But fans of die Roten hoping for a new coach effect were disappointed as Leipzig led by young American Tyler Adams walked away with an easy victory.

Even with Leipzig up the score did not reflect the actual game at halftime at all. Leipzig were dominant in midfield where young American Tyler Adams was running the show, but at the same time Leipzig lacked an outlet with Timo Werner out with the flu.

Hannover v Leipzig  – Man of the Match

“Yeah another good game for us today,” Tyler Adams said after the match. The 19-year-old holding midfielder has made the transition from Major League Soccer to the Bundesliga look easy. “It is the guys around me, the coaching staff has pulled me aside watching video to help me figure out the style of play coming from New York and playing a similar system in MLS has definitely helped me,” Adams said after the game. The midfielder completed 83.1% of his passes, played one key pass and won two of his three key passes. Furthermore, with him patrolling in midfield Hannover never had a chance to break forward as he not only broke down the opponent’s attacks but also instigated quick counter-attacks on several occasions in what was a perfect display overall.

giggity

he is getting more plaudits than he did in NY.  I know it is only two games but the speed at which he has acclimated to a new country, new team and new language is amazing.
have to figure they have a consistency of system that allows this kind of transition- especially given his position. marsch is there too, no?

yes, Marsch is there.  The fact that likely Marsch spoke highly of Adams as part of the team signing him and Adams doing the opposite of laying an egg has to help Marsch's standing in the Red Bull system.

Tyler Adams was the 3rd highest rated player in the game today according to whoscored.    Only the two goal scorers rated higher (whoscored's formula really rewards goals in their rating system)

Adams starting to get Pulisic-level hype.
For good reason.  19 year olds aren't supposed to play so well in the Bundesliga.  Look how much England fans are geeking out over Sancho now for the same reason.

I believe someone said a while back in this thread that they felt Adams would be better than Pulisic, but I don't wanna go looking for it.  I'm not sure if that's true... at least in terms of straight skill, but I think Adams plays in a position where he could become much more important to our future success in national team than Pulisic will be.

I don't remember the comment about Pulisic but I do clearly remember @Sammy3469 telling us Adams was going to make losing Gonzalez to Mexico an almost meaningless defection.

I said that awhile ago.  At least as straight DMs where they were as youths, Adams was always the top choice and Gonzalez was 3-5 with both playing the same type of game (ie it wasn’t a case where the coaches were choosing an “athlete”or the “technical” guys).  Adams has always been a tad more dynamic and looks like he’s managed to take that harness that ability (he’s always tended to try to make the harder pass over the easy one).

That being said, we still may rue losing a Gonzalez as a pure DM with the caveat being I doubt he would fit in Berhalters system where the DM becomes a de facto CB after the initial action.

I love this thinking... But CP has skills going forward that I've never seen from a US player (combo of filth AND quickness). Adams strengths are his situational awareness, motor and insane closing speed...all off the ball skills. Unless he develops more skills on the ball, I'd put my money on CP to be the one US can least afford to lose

Arguably Adams biggest strength at the highest level (ie the skill that is unique for the Big 4 leagues) is the ability (and speed) to recognize the game and make a long incisive run from a deep starting position that puts the opposition totally off kilter.  That’s a rare, unique skill that he naturally has that Gonzalez never had and is frankly possessed by only a handful of deep lying MFs.

Luckily that requires speed which even our youth coaches couldn’t miss.

here is a sobering stat.

Adams has now played more Bundesliga minutes in his first two games than Pulisic has played since October 1st......

Werder's coach subbed out both starting strikers at half time.  This should give Sargent his longest run today.  Game is 0-0.
Sadly, it sounds like Sargent did not take advantage of it as the twitter folks say he had a below average performance.  Shame, as I bet the coach was looking for an excuse to try a new striker next game.

Here is the starting lineup for the game today

..........................Steffen

Lima.....Zimmerman......Long (c).......Lovitz

....................Trapp.......Roldan

Nips................Milhalovic............Baird

...................Zardes

Lewis is getting a ton done in minimal minutes in both these games.

Lima has probably made the biggest impression to be on the A squad but Lewis as a late game offensive change up is going to be interesting to see if he can get more chances.

Was surprised Lewis had that much time so close to the goal.

Lima has been very impressive in both of these games, and he seems more 'dynamic' than Yedlin.
