US Men's National Team (11 Viewers)

Mali and France both look in the mood.  High tempo.

1-1 right now in first half.

If France lose, they then get Argentina in the next round who has looked great so far so this should be a good game as long as it stays close.

1-1 at half.  Mali may have been the better side in the first half.

Panama wins today.  They tied Mali on 4 points, but lose out on second place due to tie breaker.

Panama now goes into the 3rd place pool, where they are temporarily the 4th highest ranked team, which would see them advance.

Two games left which could effect them depending on the results for Portugal and SK.  SK is playing Argentina so that may be Panama's best hope.

A team's tournament fate lying in the hands of Portugal and South Korea.  I feel like I've seen that movie before.....

Aren't they out?  It's top 2 of these, no?

A - Poland 4 +3
B - Ecuador 4 0
E - Panama 4 -1
F - Portugal 3 -1

Portugal wins and it's Poland v Uruguay and Portugal v Ukraine.

I think

4 teams total advance as 3rd place teams.

You are missing Nigeria.

Ecuador, Poland and Nigeria have all advanced as 3rd place teams already.

One more team will advance.  It will be either SK/Portugal or Panama.

One of SK/Portugal will come in second by default in their group.

As we have talked about, this is the most professionally experienced U20 team the US has ever sent to a World Cup.

So take that into consideration when I say I have never seen as big an experience gap for a US U20 WC game as we will see on Tuesday.

France has like 7 or 8 guys you could put at the Adams level of experience(regular starter in a top 5 league).  We have zero (since Adams is not here).

SK wins giving them second.

Portugal draws with South Africa and gets sent home due to scoring one less goal than Panama.

Panama plays Ukraine in the knock out round.

yeah, fully expect to get throttled by the French via both coaching and talent.

Christian Pulisic will not join the U.S. men’s national soccer team in time for Wednesday’s Gold Cup tuneup against Jamaica at Audi Field.

Pulisic, the Chelsea-bound attacker and the highest-profile player in the U.S. program, was not included Saturday on Coach Gregg Berhalter’s 28-man roster for the friendly at D.C. United’s year-old stadium. He is expected, however, to report to the U.S. squad before the Gold Cup, the biennial regional championship that begins June 15.

Another young, European-based player will also arrive later: RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams.

Either Pulisic or Adams will join the squad for the June 9 friendly against Venezuela in Cincinnati, while the other will meet the delegation in Minneapolis-St. Paul before the Gold Cup opener against Guyana on June 18.

Excited to see the new guys...Holmes, Boyd, and to see how Gyau is doing along with dgdorji
big roster so a bunch will get dropped so keeping fingers crossed that we get to see some of the new guys.

Missing our three best players imo, in Brooks, Adams and Pulisic.

Hopefully both Adams and Pulisic will play in Gold Cup.

This does not sound good.  Might have lost something in translation though

"The contractual negotiations with Sebastian Soto have failed according to information from BILD.  A second worse offer has been made, which was immediately rejected and the negotiations were broken off."

Sucks for those going to the game but I'm fine with those two sitting out and not have a risk of injury going into the Gold Cup games.

from what I have read, Soto's contract is not up until after this upcoming season is over.

A goal or two against France could change his future in a big way.

There is a web site I am sure most of you have seen called https://www.transfermarkt.us/

It is a site that attempts to make educated guesses on the transfer value of players.

The US U20 team has a combined value of around 8m Euros (which is mostly Weah)

The French U20 team has a combined value of over 180m Euros

==============================

The French U20 manager has made a ton of changes for every game.  His team is with out suspensions and is fresh but because of the vast changes, I am unsure who is going to play against the US.

Three names to focus on though are:

Dan-Axel Zagadou: Many will recognize him as the big left footed defender for Dortmund

Moussa Diaby: He is a dynamic, small, attacking wide midfielder who gets a lot of minutes at PSG

Mickaël Cuisance: He plays at Monchengladbach.  I was unfamiliar with him until I saw this tournament and the kid can flat out play.  He is a high work rate 10 with a ton of tricks in his bag.

Posting because he still appears to be in Berhalter's plans

Sources confirmed to me that Toronto FC has signed U.S. international defender Omar Gonzalez. Deal will be announced this afternoon.

I watched a lot of Dortmund due to Pulisic over the last couple of years and DAZ is an absolute monster of a human.  He is HUGE.  Surprisingly fast for his size too, but he can be beaten.  He makes mistakes a couple of times per game if he's pressured well and if the US is prepared for it they can absolutely take advantage of it.(I'm actually quite surprised his market value is so high)

I think his market value is so high due to his position.   There are maybe a handful or fewer teenaged defenders on UCL knock out round level teams.

True.  His size makes it hard to remember he's only 19, actually 20 today.... just looked it up.(happy birthday to him btw).

He's got a ton of potential and given that CBs don't normally come into their prime until their late 20s, he could really become something great, so you're probably right there about the value.

Dortmund got him for free....  nuts.

USMNT Watch‏ @USMNT_Watch

Newcastle United are set to sign Chelsea youngster Kyle Scott (21). Scott has been with the Blues since the age of 10 but failed to make the breakthrough into the first-team. His last international appearance was with the US U20 team in 2015

US France U20 game starts at 11:20am ET today on FS2

Here are the knockout round results so far.

Colombia over New Zealand in pk's

Ukraine 4 Panama 1

Italy 1 Poland 0

Ecuador 3 Uruguay 1

Senegal 2 Nigeria 1

here is the starting lineup today.

.........................Scot

Dest..........Richards......Keita........Glocester

...........................Servania

..............Ledezma...............Pomykal

de la Fuente..........Soto......................Weah

Some thoughts

1) clearly not a defensive line up.  Dest, Servania at the 6 and Ledezma seem to indicate Tab will not bunker (which might be suicide with France's team speed but hoping it works out)

2) I don't understand sticking with Keita.  He had a really bad game against Qatar, if he does not bounce back, France is going to punish those mistakes in ways Qatar could not.

3) Related to #2, I still don't get Tab going out of his way just before the tournament started to name McKenzie the team captain.....

4) Obviously a big opportunity for all the US players since the scouts from all over will be watching France but I think Ledezma really gets a chance to shine. He is the player many fans have wanted to see.

5) Tab has the slowest hook ever but I hope he keeps a close on de la Fuente and gets Llanez in at half time,  if things are not going well.
