US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

Thank goodness VAR has fixed a lot of the hard-line stuff, but a subjective penalty or red card decision can, in one second, completely change the course of a game almost every time it happens.
It is very true what you say.

And think about how ridiculous it is in soccer that you can get a red card AND a pk in the exact same play.....The game is literally over in 99% of the cases the moment that happens.

My feeling is that the US seems unable to score.
There is no question it has been a struggle.

In the last 9 competitive games, the US has only scored more than one goal, twice.  One was against minnow Martinique and one included extra time against Mexico (the US did score two in the first 90 though).

Getting weird vibes online with people saying Gio is out for the rest of this window and Pulisic won't play tonight.

But it is not coming from the media who is close to the team, from what I can tell so I don't know if this is just negative speculation at this point.

If that's the case i would go 3 at the back and push Weston up in the midfield.  Have the wing backs put in crosses and overlap with Aaronson or Weah or KdF. I could see Pepi getting a significant run out or start in this situation.

Weah is not on team (we could have used him given the injuries).  He got hurt the day he was suppose to fly out to join the team. :(

It amazing just how quickly things turn.  I remember us lauding our incredible depth at the wing spot.

Now we possibly have Morris, Weah, Pulisic, Gio, and Nips all hurt at the exact same time.   Seems impossible....

I still have a feeling Pulisic is going to play tonight unless I am completely oblivious to something going on with him physically beyond just not training for 10 days.

I’ll be surprised if CP isn’t in the lineup tonight.  If that’s the case, it’s pretty easy to see them pushing Aaronson out wide. I could also see the argument in Konrad for his speed to match up with Canada.

Grrr. I was wondering why we didn't see him.  Don't have Hoppe either, right? Might consider pushing Dest up to right wing so he can try some filthy stuff and not play defense.  You know what he usually does for the Nats...

Mexico @ CR

Panama @ Jamaica

Honduras @ ELS

These are the other three games today.  All draws (or a Mexico win) will be what we want this early.

I've stated from the beginning there is something fishy going on.  The "not fit" narrative is obviously BS.
How is it “obviously bs”? The guy has been fragile his entire career. He was positive for COVID a couple weeks ago. We expect young healthy vaccinated athletes to bounce right back, but that’s not always the case. For example Kai Havertz last year wasn’t the same for a couple months.  We all know the coach is playing this close to the vest, but there’s no doubt he would have played last Thursday if he were fit, and the same is true tonight.

Fair enough on the Covid stuff.   I assume if there was an injury there would be more detail.

I think it's odd we have no detail.

What detail would you expect US Soccer to share that helps them against Canada?  Doesn't it make more sense to keep Canada wondering so that they can't plan for sure?

I'm sure there's some gamesmanship with publicly-reported info as we'd expect, but there's no way they left him in Nashville last week if he were able to play, even as a late substitute. Its not like Berhalter cares about Chelsea. He's going to run his best player out every game if he's available. Berhalter's career is on the line here as well.

I agree entirely.

That being said, I do wonder how did he lose so much fitness in ten days if he wasn't sick.   I can understand he was not allowed on the field, but you would think how and where they are isolated would have treadmills and other items that a non sick isolated person can use to at least keep their cardio up.

Man, I'm already getting nervous.   This is not quite a must win, but it's pretty damn close.
This is the 2nd game of 14 and no one should be thinking like this but I agree it certainly feels like it is a really close to a must win.

I absolutely don't want to go into San Pedro Sula with two points or less.

Anybody take a shot at a lineup?

I guess with some questions it's hard to put something out there with certainty.

Rejoice everyone, for at least the foreseeable future, we don't root for a team in the worst run Confederation.

Concacaf is going to have to pull out all the stops to top what is happening in Brazil right now :)

Sounds like another person in the US camp tested positive but it was someone who stayed in Nashville and did not travel to ELS.

Pulisic was retested and sounds like no one else got it but I assume this is someone Pulisic came into contact with so we may have dodged a bullet here.

this is a tiny bit of good news (except for you poor bastards that have to get up for work the next day).  The later the better to take some of the edge off the heat

NEWS: The Honduran Federation (@FenafuthOrg) has changed the kickoff time of Wednesday's #WCQ in San Pedro Sula to 10:30pm ET.

good bit on Mexican Americans supporting Mexico over the USA on the pregame show.

I don't understand it or agree with it, but it was interesting to hear the perspective.
