Nottingham Forest keen on Burnley's Nick Pope with England goalkeeper in high demand

England drew Germany in Germany 1-1 today on a late PK.

This marks the first time since the 2019 UEFA Nations League semi finals and 3rd place game that England only got 1 point combined from two successive games.

At this point, assuming full health and a 23 man roster...I would be SHOCKED if Greg brought Scally.  I think its too late and he trusts Bello (or a Dest at LB, Yedlin/Cannon at right back situation) if Robinson isn't able to go.  Obviously a lot could change in 5 months, but I dont see it.

IMO, if its a 23 man roster, these guys are going for sure (based on Greg)

Turner, Steffen

Dest, Robinson, Bello

Zimmerman, Long, Richards

Adams, Acosta

Weston, Musah, Luca

Reyna, Aaronson, CP, Weah, Nips

That's 18 spots, leaving 5 up for grabs (assuming 23 for the cup)

Obviously a 3rd goalie...will almost certainly be either Horvath or Johnson unless Gaga gets a transfer and a loan and plays great right off the bat.

backup RB probably comes down to Cannon or Yedlin (outside shot of Scally)

4th CB...probably EPB or CCV. Brooks is clearly out. Outside shot of someone like Mckenzie working his way back into the picture.

Reyna and Aaronson can both play as wings or as 8's, so I dont see the need to bring another dedicated guy at that spot (Djordje's injury probably cost him a chance. I dont see Busio or anyone else getting there unless the roster expands)

Then you've probably got 2 dedicated forwards.  God knows who that is at this point. If Jesus keeps scoring in MLS, I bet he makes it. No clue on the other spot. 6 months ago, Pepi looked like a stone cold lock, but you can't bring a 19 year old who isn't scoring goals to the tournament. So he better get back in form FAST once Europe starts up again.

You really think GGG trusts Bello?  Hell, I'm an Atlanta United supporter and I never trusted him for club or country.  Hoping he improves and makes the jump with the move to Europe but I'm not sold at all.

I think people are making the assumption that GGG uses Dest as the backup LB and doesn't bring Bello or Vines or any other dedicated LB.

but Scally does provide that LB/RB support...if he can show that he belongs at this level. I'm not sure what playing against Grenada or even El Sal will tell us about that- but it's better than nothing. hoping we get to see him in these upcoming games.

In relation to @Poke_4_Lifegreat post about Zimm, lets extend that to a more difficult situation.

For reasons none of us are quite sure about, Miles Robinson has seen numerous younger CB's move over seas while he continues to get no concrete offers.   And now with the injury, his chance to shine at the WC is likely very very remote leaving him with the sad possibility of missing his window to move.

He is still young at 25, but if this whole season gets washed and he misses the WC, you then have to start wondering if he misses his chance to move the same way Long missed his chance when he was younger.

I am still unsure what makes Miles less attractive than our other CB's that he seems to outplay when on the field.  I wonder if it is as simple as an old fashioned one on one defender who causes problems on set pieces offensively is simply not valued as much anymore.

The odds to advance out of Group B have settled in, and... Wales is favored ahead of us, somehow:

  • England 90%
  • Wales 46%
  • USA 40%
  • Iran 24%

Group B squad values (per Transfermarket):

  • England $1.44 billion (#1 of 32 WC teams)
  • USA $232 million (#18)
  • Wales $154 million (#20)
  • Iran $84 million (#27)

Those values are future looking though, which favors the younger team.

And tournament matches favor those with experience, so i could see how Wales could be favored over USMNT.  Also the Welsh might have more knowledge of the opponent they share a border with than the US does, so they might be more apt to get a draw.

So uh... Wrong thread....

England Under 21s beat Albania last night to seal their place in the Under-21 European Championships in 2023, with Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun scoring twice in the process.

I agree with all of this.

I won't be too upset if Miles doesn't make a move, but he does seem to be one of the more talented US CB's so it will be a bit confusing.

Wales and England are both at the bottom of their nations league groups after getting a combined 1 point from 4 games.

It did look like Wales gave a good game to Holland even in the loss yesterday, although they were at home too.

The US has a coaching disadvantage IMHO so these odds make sense to me

I guess it's still possible Giggs gets cleared on his domestic violence charges in time for Qatar?  I'm not sure where that stands. Wikipedia lists Rob Page as "caretaker" and Giggs as head coach.

Giggs might give us an advantage just due to the possibility he would sub himself on as I believe he once did during his short stint at ManU.

On the call, Gregg Berhalter continues to insist he sees Tim Weah most valuable as a winger and that he sees him for the #USMNT as a striker only in unique situations.

hope that happens for him.

as we've discussed, 2nd div Holland is nowhere for a national teamer to be... especially a guy who looks to be hitting his stride. all those leagues would be good for him, and  I think he'd do well in Spain too, tbh. would love to see him paired with Musah at Valencia

I'll be very curious where he lands.  He's better than Netherlands 2, but I'm not sure he's Big-5 material.

Maybe Championship, Netherlands 1, Turkey or a mid-table French team?

US Soccer will be releasing the U20/23 qualifying roster today.

From rumors it sounds like some players like Clark and Vargas won't be released until after the group stage.

CCV signed a perm deal with Celtic though 2026, paid Tottenham $13 million.

That looks to tie him with Jozy and subsequently bump one of the Dempsey moves out of the top 15.

14: Dike (from Orlando to West Brom) $9.5m

Barça Universal

@BarcaUniversal

It seems that Xavi has chosen to keep Sergiño Dest over Dani Alves. The manager appreciates the American's youth and potential.

Tonight’s USMNT Starting XI vs. Grenada: 1-Matt Turner, 5-Antonee Robinson, 7-Paul Arriola, 8-Weston McKennie (capt.), 9-Jesús Ferreira, 13-Jordan Morris, 14-Luca de la Torre, 15-Aaron Long, 20-Cameron Carter-Vickers, 22-Reggie Cannon, 23-Kellyn Acosta

Watching this should remind all of us why it’s so critical our best XI be healthy when it matters in November.

Well, I now have disney+ and espn+...

Whatever, I'll gety money's worth out of Disney for a bit with twin 5 year olds.

Missed the first 29 minutes while signing up.  1-0 @ half seems dissapointing.  Looked like grenada strategy is to immediately stop the counter with a foul and then pack the middle (doesn't look like a park the bus though).  Not surprising but what is surprising is that our boys don't seem to know that was coming.

What it looks like to me is a bunch of guys trying extra hard to show they should be on the final 23 but not playing together.looks ok against grenada.  But that 11 looks like they'd get mauled by an experienced WC team.  Looks like a tryout.
