Forest got a 4 point penalty, putting Turner in more danger of relegation. Reyna too, but I assume he is going back to Dortmund no matter what happens since the loan has been a flat dud to date.
 
Are we at all worried about Cavan Sullivan being dual eligible with Germany?

On a somewhat related note - anyone know anything about Damion Downs? Dual eligible (US and Germany) 2004 striker who has a few appearances (and one goal) for FC Koln in the Bundesliga this season.

At this particular moment, no. But like the millions of other dual nats, I am sure he will keep his doors open until he has to make a definitive choice.

Does anyone know if he is youth cap tied to US at this point or do you need to be a certain age before that tag can be applied?

I get your point but all of these players (Ocho, Usain, Tyreke) gave up soccer to focus on their other sport and then many many years later (in Bolt's and Ocho's cases) gave soccer a try.

That is never going to be a formula for success, especially in soccer which demands millions of touches to stay sharp.

Ocho and Usain played through HS iirc. But sure... They were obviously focusing on other sports.

For me, athletes are always going to athlete. But success in one sport also obviously doesn't equate to success in all. Lamar equating himself to Messi or Mbappe is like me equating myself to any pro baseball player because I was always an all star until I gave it up at 15. I'm not even saying the best pro players, because I was never the athlete Lamar has always been.

These questions are always difficult because no one has a crystal ball and yes, I am sure the egos of some of the uber athletes come into play.

Look at Jordan, who was as gifted a natural athlete as Lamar, Tyreke, MBappe etc, and he looked down right ordinary as a minor league baseball player.

And of course to your other point, if he had focused strictly on! baseball, maybe he would've been phenomenal.

What legit multi sport guys have there been... Bo, Dion...?
 
It was interesting reading Tyrekes reason for focusing on football- culture at home. I've talked about culture for a while, and I love that we're starting to see a shift- not coincidentally with MLS contracts getting better. If young guys in lower economics- regardless of race- can look at soccer as a way out the way those people in the rest of the world do, well start to have those questions answered. It certainly will only help the sport here.

Some of these are too old to have any effect on the conversation but I would list

Bo, Dion, Thorpe, Jim Brown, and maybe Babe Didrikson for women.

And then a tier down from these would be players like Elway, Ainge, Kyler Murray, the types that maybe could have played two sports but ended up specializing as a pro.

not only MLS but I have seen some of the uber American athletes also publicly noting how much money the big time soccer players make internationally. With the world shrinking due to the internet, I think more and more US kids will know the financial prosperity of being a soccer player.

We will continue to struggle in urban areas though as the access to soccer and grass is still limited (although it is significantly improved compared to back when you and I were pups).

I am really torn on this. Selfishly I wanted him playing every minute at a smaller club, but I do also want him to cash in. This is probably his last chance at a major payday, and he has really earned it.

There are also rumors of Liverpool and Man City taking a look this summer. I think with so many big teams circling, he's going to move somewhere for the paycheck increase. Just hope he finds the team that will get him the most field time.
 
Sacha Kljestan came out of retirement at 38 and signed for amateur side USL League 2 (waaaaaaaay down the pyramid) Dew Moines Menace.

He went 120 minutes in his very first game and had an assist in an Open Cup win. He also scored the decisive PK when it went to PK's.

So cool :)

He would probably get the majority of mins if he moved to United. Shaw has become unreliable and oft injured while Malacia seems to have fallen off the earth. Not sure what would happen at Chelsea.
 
I still don't think Jedi has the chops for a top club, and fear the move backfiring badly.

That said, also hopeful he has more learning in him to grow into a top club. But he's not young, so not sure how much more learning there is with basic foot skills.

A lot will depend on team style. If as a LB he will be expected to combine with midfielders in build up, he will struggle.

If instead he is employed like Fulham and the US use him to bomb up and down the wing and use his ever improving crossing skills, he could have more success.
 
Can someone educate me on why Twitter is aflutter about Miles getting the start? Like who am I forgetting that's obviously better right now?

ETA: that's also a bleepin' great lineup IMO. CB probably a little lite by international standards but that front six and the outside backs are strong.
 
Want to see them keep moving the ball quicker. It's there for them... And they've had some nice looks. Cough cough final ball.

And lol... Yeah- that 3 v 2, come on!
 
I mean, I don’t know the coaching solution to guys not being able to control the ball and getting dispossessed easily. Pulisic is just playing for free kicks. Scally can’t complete simple entry passes. McKennie is having one of those weird *** games. I think they’ll probably equalize, but this is a player problem.
