US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

I assume we've covered the fact that Chris Richards looked like he was standing still 1 v 1 with the Jamaican attacker at midfield? That was scary slow. If that's his usual MO, he drops several rungs in my book.
I don't know about MO, but that was some shocking stuff.. starting with the very late realization that he'd even have to sprint there.

Reyna is sublime on the ball. What a touch in to Wright.

And check how Wright freezes the first defender as he receives the pass, before he touches it left into space. Sweet feint.

Didn't notice that... Will look for it somewhere other than this broadcast that refuses to show replays.

Watching Gio roam like he's allowed to makes me wonder if that's a role that Dest could fill as well. Mitigates his liability as a defender and allows him to use his ball control/handling skills more.

Not many coaches are in love with that kind of role anymore. I really think that's at the heart of Reyna's issue -- it's not character or health, he's just a tweener without an obvious home on the field.

Gotta say, not sure US deserved that. The attack looked glacial for much of the game. Too much standing around with the ball, not enough trying to hit the overlapping/cutting run.

The US absolutely deserved that. Yeah, they needed to play it quicker more. But when they did they were carving up JaM, even before ET.

Unfortunately they also deserved to lose, given their continued awful final touch and gifting that early goal.

Couple more thoughts...

I loved Tillmans movement- some great runs into seams and behind Balo, but his touch continuously let him down.

Balo kept showing but didn't have an opportunity to make one of his fantastic slicing or diagonal runs (that I remember). He had one nice inlet and hold that set up some runners after his second touch. But the rest of his time was getting shoved off the space and ball. And he really wasn't being helped by anybody's passes.

Swag... These are not the droids you are looking for. This game never happened.

That new #4 kid looked like a player. Swinging balls crossfield at will to open up the attack, and reading passing lanes in D. Even busted an *** right after checking in to try to get some control back in the game. I'd like to see more of him.

We loved Gios passing, but I didn't love his loafing off the ball (at times). And hated how he stood waiting for a pass in his defensive third late in the game that got stolen. He's had amazing games vs Mex (assuming they win) so hope he puts his big boy pants on works hard on and off both sides of the ball.

Anyone watching the Mexico game? Am I blind or was that line drawn WAY crooked on the 2nd goal. I thought he was offside clearly.

Some GGG quotes

==============

I asked Berhalter about how they move forward with the 5-4-1 being something opponents are using against the #USMNT "The first thing, you can't give up a goal in 45 seconds, can't happen. Perseverence is key, then counter-pressing. You have to be switched on."

Berhalter: "Sometimes you tell the guys this and it goes in one ear out the other...This was a typical CONCACAF game. These games are super competitive no matter who's on the field, and I think we didn't really come to terms with that, especially in the beginning."

Berhalter: "I think I heard somewhere that someone asked 'why did Gio get called into camp?'""Did you guys hear that?" Berhalter asks the room. "Anyone? I think he showed why tonight. Its clear he deserves to play on this team." <note this was almost certainly a direct shot at Jesse Marsch. GGG would be better served to stay out of the media muck imo)

Gregg Berhalter said Haji Wright was at the airport ready to go to Dubai with his girlfriend and family when he was called in as a last minute call up.

A Gio quote

Gio Reyna on what it’s like being in the #usmnt with Berhalter. “Obviously what happened, happened, but I think both of us are so far past it and just so focused on the group that, yeah, it's not even an issue at all anymore. We're just so far past it.”

Took them so long to show the replay with the line, but there was a PAN defender on the far side that looked to keep him on.

This is the question that matters?

Wouldn't we rather hear- whats going on at Forrest? Why aren't you seeing the field there?

This is not a great angle but here is when the ball was played. I think you are correct, it looks like the defender off screen may have kept him on

The VAR image looked clear- not really even close. But I wasn't looking or noticing it being crooked

I am not sold on Musah as a lone 6. I feel like a lone 6's main offensive strength has to be short and mid range passing. Musah's biggest strength is shuttling but being by himself as a DM, that shuttle skill is REALLY dangerous to employ.

I still love the kid... But hes needed to progress more parts of his game this season, and I've mentioned watching Milan- he's been going the wrong way.

If this new #4 kid works out, maybe he can take over the 6 and either let Musah push higher or swap in a Tilman or Gio instead.

The studio drew their own line at halftime…. He was off by half a yard. 😂😂
