Sources: The Philadelphia Union have signed Academy product and Union II player Neil Pierre, 17, to a Homegrown contract. His Union II deal will convert to a Homegrown contract in January. Pierre has impressed at various U.S. national team levels and has also been invited to international camps by Haiti. This year in MLS NEXT Pro, Pierre has logged over 2,300 minutes. Congratulations to Neil.

Bundesliga side Werder Bremen are interested in signing Birmingham Legion top talent Ramiz Hamouda. The US youth international debuted in the USL Championship as a 15-year-old earlier this year.
2008 left-footed center back. Lot of potential but not that polished. I assume he's bouncing to Europe soon as he left SKC academy to go to Birmingham. He's got a Sudanese passport and I'm not sure how that plays in Europe. It seems at least some countries you can move at 16 (he's 16 now).

When you have the superior talent and/or pieces that can be deployed in unique ways that the other team will have trouble countering
This is exactly how Canada deploys the very limited amount of exceptional talent they have. Leverage thale advantages where you can to put their opponents in bad spots and limit the damage where you're not better than the competition.

I was not watching but I just saw a report that Pulisic was subbed out due to an injury. Did any one watch when he was subbed out?

edit: Nevermind, Pulisic himself he came off only as a precaution and he is fine.

======

Juventus were stuck at the airport in Birmingham because the authorities asked for both of Timothy Weah's passports. But he only brought his French one, not the American one. So the entire team waited for it to be resolved while Thiago Motta took a car to do the press conference

Cole Campbell to @GoalUSA on his goals:

"My goal was to debut in the Bundesliga and eventually the Champions League. Now that I've done that, I'm just trying to work hard and obviously earn more minutes throughout the rest of the season. That's my short-term goal. As far as long-term goals for my career, I want to win a Ballon d'Or. That's something that I want to do in my career. I want to win the Champions League and I want to win a World Cup as well. That's something that would be absolutely amazing and I think that, in the future, I think it's all possible."

I agree, why stop with those goals? Maybe the first human to step foot on Mars? What about starting a new messianic religion and gaining a billion followers?

Is it bad that I'm reading this as he's not going to play for the US?

luckily he already passed in his one time switch last spring. He can’t play for anyone else but the US.

So he needs some therapy then... I guess that's better.

This gets technical but he still hasn't played a game for us so I believe he can still unswitch. Btw, I think even an official youth match would count.

But his other option is Iceland so it's not exactly like these goals would be more likely

Oh they must have changed the rule recently. It is my understanding that, in the past, once the papers were filed, you were tied to new country whether you ever played a game or not.

Out of curiosity I googled to see how many players have won Ballon, WC and UCL/Champions Cup. Only 9 players in history have done it according to the list I saw.

Messi, Rivaldo, Charlton, Rossi, Zidane, Muller (Gerd), Kaka, Ronaldinho, and Beckenbuar

Hmm I think Campbell may already be capped tied. Here is the exact wording from a FIFA document about "unswitching"
=============

A player that was:
a) granted a change of association; and
b) was not fielded in a match in any (official or unofficial) competition in
any kind of football by the new association,
may request a change of association back to his former association provided
he continues to hold the nationality of such association

==================

The key word here is "unofficial". So I think any friendly at any age group would do it and Campbell has already played for the US U19's this year.

@prefontaine do you agree with my understanding or am I reading this rule incorrectly?

oh very good! Balogun is available as a sub for Monaco today.

I think from the incredibly long list of hurt players, I think this may only leave Dest as the player still not dressing.

I have no idea. I'll have to defer to my FIFA attorney.

Campbell and Reyna both available as subs today for Dortmund
Campbell played 45' this morning for Dortmund's U19 so not expecting to see him here unless an emergency. Interesting that Mathis Albert is who subbed in for him.

He appears to be shuttling back and forth between senior team and U19's, which is fine as he needs minutes at his age. I think he played for the U19's this weekend as well after dressing for the senior team.

it still boggles my mind with Dortmund's youth depth, that Albert is already getting U19 minutes. I think this is earlier than both Pulisic and Reyna.
Albert is on an insane trajectory. I think the laws of the Bundesliga don't allow you play until age 17. He doesn't turn 17 for a year and a half.

Oh and not to forget Leeds, where Aaronson is starting again at the 10. They are already up 1-0 early.

If Leeds win they go top of the table.

Unless it has changed, I think the rule is 16 years old. Moukoko (for Dortmund of course) holds the record as the youngest player ever in the Bundesliga at age 16 and 1 day old.

Btw, in that Dortmund U19 UCL match this morning, there were actually 3 American eligible players. Campbell started as did 2007 CB Tyler Meiser who has been captaining the German U18s (he's prelim cap-tied). And then Albert subbed on in the 2nd half.

I'm likely wrong then. Dortmund's last game is May 17th. That would mean Mathis couldn't debut til next season (his birthday is the 21st).

Tillman is the first American to score twice in a single champions league game.

Tillman and Pepi are the first two Americans to score in the same champions league game
