US Men's National Team (26 Viewers)

What if it's not the coaching, but we're really just not a very creative team? This looked awfully familiar.

Not sure you can know that Panama is going to play a narrow 5-4-1 and then make Yunus Musah the focal point of your wide attacks. Seems like Weah would have been a better choice at RB for that kind of thing.

Kind of tired of how easily Panama knocks the ball around and then we look like we're stuck in quicksand when we get it. Like, we're supposed to have the better players here.

Tessman, Pulisic mostly invisible.

Positives: Sargent has been great on limited touches. Adams doing Adams thing. McKennie needs to be on the ball more, he does things down the middle no one else on the field can (but does seem to get stuck on the ball too much). Defense has been solid -- some dodgy moments but nothing especially dangerous and no shots on goal.

Ream and Richards didn't do the team any favors with a lot of passes that were too slow, and not well located... Too many passes behind the wide player which then slowed everything back down and took away any advantage the width has in that split second.

It's just too much stuff like that... On the pass, on receiving the pass in the middle and needing touches just to get it under control... Poor.

Swag has been one of those guys whose touch hasn't been on. Stuck under foot and then doubled up for easy tackles on him.

I am convinced that Poch's style depends on really good full backs.

I think Dest and Jedi are going to be fabulous for Poch but we have zero depth on either side, and when missing both FB's, we get an ugly half like that.

10x better because they're not settling for the passes around the outside of the defensive umbrella. They're getting inside it on the move and unsettling Panama.

So much better, and giving our good players something to do when they're on the ball.

Too bad about Richard's. Solid defensive game for him.

US need to keep the tempo high here... Moving the ball and runs off the ball.

Credit I guess to Panama, but wow the US didn't show much. Nice 2nd half from Weah, otherwise a whole lot of nothing from everybody else
A decent share of this is on Poch. He did not put players in the right position to succeed tonight. He made no adjustments at halftime either.

But in the end, it’s one of those games. One team dominates, can’t score and the other team scores on their only shot on goal all night.

Was it the US that dominated?

I mean... They had more chances, but Panama seemed like the team who came out and executed exactly what they were trying to do.

US played miles better than Panama in the 2nd half, but didn't score.
With some luck, Pepi, Balogun, Tillman, Dest, Jedi and Johnny will all be available which is going to change the look of the team dramatically.
Outside of Jedi, I'm not sure there's much better in your group than we had on the field tonight.

On a more macro picture, with 48 teams in the WC and the US likely getting one of the 12 seeds, they are going to have one, maybe even two teams in their group that they will have to break a bunker on.

We absolutely suck at breaking down teams that defend first.

His mind is in LA, but his heart is in Tottenham…

To be fair, almost all teams in the world struggle against well organized defensive set-ups.

Dest and Jedi change the entire look of our team IMO.

Johnny is just better than Tessman as a player, IMO. Neither of them play well for the US sadly.

Tillman is the big wild card. He had a fantastic champions league this year. Whether he can recreate that for the US is still TBD.

He didn't score, and yeah... That's what he's there for... But Ag did everything else he was supposed to do. Gives a different look than anybody else up front and could be on that final WC roster.

I just read that Panama has only lost to the US in 3 of the last 11 games they have played. (There were some PK’s in there but those officially go in the books as draws).

It was a shame that both his chances fell to his weak foot. He needs to work on his right foot to compliment the thunder bolt in his left.

I just posted about Ag, but I thought McG did himself solid as well. I commented about how poorly balls were being passed earlier. He was nailing the ball to players in exactly the right spot to lead them or take it at their feet.

But man... When both CP and Swag are having crap games, not sure where the US are going to find their magic.

It’s fair to say that GGG would have been crucified for this. The problems run deeper than any one coach with this group.

Hopefully it will look better this summer.

I didn't even remember that he's lefty.

That through ball- he did so well on all of that- especially taking the final touch to his right to take it away from the defender to open himself up for the shot. And a decent shot (yeah, he needs to score there).

I should stop hammering this point but I don’t think you can overestimate the difference offensively between Dest/Musah and Jedi/Scally. It is a night and day difference on both sides of the field.
